Hi Everyone, Here we are, winter in Pennsylvania, but it won't be long until it will be tour season. We need some new tour hosts, some new organizers. It's not fair to let the same people do it all the time. Even if you only have an idea for a stop, or a destination, let us know. It doesn't even have to be auto -related ( 87 flavors of ice cream, world's biggest hairball, Aunt Mable's Outhouse Antiques, we don't care). Help the club out. This is a picture of a junkyard in Ohio that has only an-tique cars and trucks. It will be one of the stops on a tour this season. I'll have more pictures at the next meeting. Hope to see you there. MINUTES OF THE NHHAC MEETING January 10, 2010 The meeting was called to order by our new President, Jan Smith, and the Pledge of Allegiance recited. Jen Barker motioned that an addition be made to the Minutes of the December13, 2009 indicating that Randy Fusco had resigned from the Board of Directors. Ken Barker seconded. Treasurer Jack Swaney informed the Club that our bank balance as of January 10, 2010 was $8,285.58. Frank Pribanic informed the Club that Marge DePaolis was recuperating and that Jean Smith’s mother passed away Saturday, January 10, 2010. Jack and Joyce Bachman were introduced as guests to the meeting, this being their first review for membership. Neither Robert May, Jason Belvedere nor Russell Reiger were present. Kevin Bick was not present for his second review. Steve Illsley said that 32 people were present for the morning brunch. The next Sunday brunch will be held on February 7, 2010 at the Sheraton Four Points in Cranberry. Another brunch will be scheduled for March, 2010. Jan Smith brought up for discussion the duties of the Board of Directors. A discussion was in-deed held and the following was proposed in a motion by Steve Illsley: “That all matters brought before the Board and considered by the Board would be brought back to the general membership for a final vote”. Jackie Sheerer seconded that motion. Jen Barker suggested that we go back to the older By-laws. After a discussion, Clara Dresbach, Jen Barker and Jan Smith volunteered to look the By-laws over and then submit one correct copy for the membership. Jen Barker will serve as the Chairperson of that committee. Pat O’Neill indicated that he could use more hobby displays for the After-Christmas Party. The Charity Committee has not yet decided where to send a charitable donation. If you have any suggestions, please call Jackie. Bill Sheerer informed the Club that the Flea Market is Sunday, February 28, 2010 and that Cindy Cook will be doing the refreshments. Ann Cutuli took over as the new Historian since Ed Sipp stepped down. There being no further business to discuss, Michael Quinn moved to adjourn the meeting. Respectfully submitted, Antoinette S. Quinn, Secretary

Kim and Paul Zbilut

This month I am pleased to interview relatively new members, Paul and Kim Zbilut. Paul has known member Phil Deakin for over 30 years. He was the first person that gave Paul credit in his store to buy parts in those early years. Phil introduced Paul and Kim to the club and they became members at the annual fall picnic at Chuck Glenz home.

Paul’s interest in antique cars goes back to his high school days. He had so many cars that he fixed up, drove and sold, but the one that he’ll never forget was literally given to him in pieces in boxes. His Mom bought a disassembled original 1951 MG TD from a friend for next to nothing.

Paul took power mechanics in school and always worked on cars and trucks of all sorts. Since he could not afford to buy a “hot” car, he built one himself. It took two years of working in his parent’s one car garage. He will never forget the day that he tested the wiring harness that he had made himself and was almost shocked, that everything worked! He even remem-bers what was playing on the radio – “Benny and the Jets” by Elton John. He just had to take it for a spin in the neighborhood. When he drove it to school for the first time, his candy apply red MG TD made everyone’s mouth drop. A few years later, he sold it to a guy who bought it for his son. Paul found out later that the kid totaled it the next day. During the summer of 2005, a few of Paul’s friends were getting motorcycles and he had his eye on one too. Even though Kim grew up on dirt bikes like Paul did, she quickly directed his attention away from motorcycles and suggested he get a classic car to restore instead. So, Paul’s plans for a Harley turned into a muscle car. When Paul finally decided to get a muscle car, Kim asked what he wanted to try to find and Paul said, “a ‘70’s 442 big block, 4-speed, Oldsmo-bile Convertible.” It didn’t take long to figure out that this was going to be a real challenge. Paul was the Crew Chief on a dirt track late model and put the word out to his team to keep their eye out for a 442. One of the guys gave him the name of his cousin in Beaver Falls who had cars he wanted to sell that he had brought back from Texas nearly a decade ago. Kim and Paul with their 1971 442 W-30 convertible

Paul hit the jackpot, as this guy had exactly what he had dreamed of…. a 1971 Olds 442 455 4-speed con-vertible, and to his disbelief, it was a W-30! There were only 32 of these made that were 4-speed. It had been sitting in a warehouse for 10 years and had 500 inches of dust and cat paw prints all over it. The engine compartment was empty when he got it, but

was given all the components for this numbers matching car. When they picked up the car, Paul will never forget Kim asking his friend, “do you think this car has any potential?” Now she won’t let Paul even think about parting with it. Within 2 months, Paul had it on the road. He basically rebuilt everything mechanical. He didn’t have to do anything to the body as the paint job was so good that he only had to micro-sand and buff it to get this black beauty to shine. He used the original seat skins but replaced the foam and replaced the carpet. He did all of the work on the car except for the new converti-ble top and re-chromed bumpers. In the spring of 2008, after Paul built a large garage at his home, he decided to see if he could purchase another Olds that the same guy had in the warehouse in Beaver Falls. Sure enough, he still had it – a 1970 Rallye 350. Since this car was only made for one year, Paul knew this was a rare car also. It was in excellent shape and is numbers matching. It came with lots of documentation including the original invoice. It didn’t take long for Kim to get the bug also. She spotted a 1983 Camaro Z-28 with T-tops that she just had to have. It is a fun car to drive and is a modified classic with an automatic V-8. Paul just acquired a 1927 Model T Ford body that he is going to turn into a nostalgic 50’s street rod.

When asked what Paul likes most about the hobby, he said loves to restore cars, as it is chal-lenging and very re-warding. In particu-lar, he likes rare and unique muscle cars and has always liked Oldsmobiles. He said they also enjoy going to car cruises and taking drives. It is a wonderful hobby that both he and Kim enjoy together. When they went to their first Olds show with the 442, they had no sooner parked at the show and started to detail it, when a couple came over and said they wanted to buy the car. They had followed Paul from Springdale all the way to Vandergift. They tried their best for the last 3 years to change Paul’s minds by showing up at different shows. Paul further added they don’t want to be one of the many who regret selling their car. This is his once in a lifetime treasure. They have fun when Paul drives the Olds 442 and Kim drives the Rallye 350. The best comment that they got was at a traffic light, someone was making the turn in front of them and yelled out the window, “now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!” Paul said they look forward to being members of the NHHAC and making new friends. And a foot note to the story, the 1971 442 took first place and the 1970 Rallye 350 took second place at the Oldsmobile Nationals in 2009.
