Ag Management Students Learn from Industry Professional On Thursday December 15th, students enrolled in the Agricultural Management and Business course at North Mahaska High School learned about the ins and outs of crop and livestock insurance from local independant crop insurance agent, Dan DeVries. Dan spoke to students about the history of crop insurance in the United States from its beginnings after its creation in response to the Dust Bowl until today. He also spoke about what crop insurance in Iowa looks like and the details that are essential for Iowa farmers to know when purchasing crop insurance, as well as how to get into a career in agricultural insurance.

This is a one time scholarship that is awarded to deserving, driven FFA graduates in May each year. If you are interested in making a grain donation to go towards this scholarship fund, please one of the following people: Chris VerSteegh (Advisory Member) (641) 990-4366 or Brett Hutchinson (Ag Advisor) (515) 979-5632

Students Hear from Animal Science Legend On January 12th, six North Mahaska FFA students traveled to New Hampton, Iowa to attend a speech from Dr. Temple Grandin. Dr. Grandin has many accomplishments in the animal science industry, along with being an incredible advocate for the autism community. Dr. Grandin spoke on her experiences working as an animal behavior specialist and how to work with people with different kinds of minds. She was incredibly inspiring and reminded us that just because an individual is different, they are not less.

Dr. Temple Grandin speaks in the New Hampton gymnasium on January 12th.
