North San Juan Library Media Center’s Mission

• To provide students and faculty with a well organized, easily accessible collection of sources allowing them to become independent information seekers

• To aid students, parents, faculty and community stakeholders in becoming aware of the important role that literature and the development of good reading habits play in becoming life long learners.

Page 3: North san juan library manual

Goals• To provide a current collection of

resources for both students and faculty that will coincide with the STAAR, TEKS and district initiatives.

Page 4: North san juan library manual

Goals• Provide and teach literature

appreciation and instill a desire to read as a life long activity.

Page 5: North san juan library manual

Goals• To provide access to a variety of

formats of information such as databases, books, playaways, DVDs, video, or computer programs which allow students to understand, enjoy and creative works.

Page 6: North san juan library manual

Goals• Actively involve students in the

effective use of a wide range of print, non-print and electronic resources.

Page 7: North san juan library manual

the classroom teacher that would ensure more meaningful learning while supporting classroom instruction.

Page 9: North san juan library manual

Schedule- What works• 30 minute class

sessions• Scheduled shelving

time daily of at least 45 minute increments

• Pre-K aides stay during library classes

• Allowing for classes to start the 2nd week of school (this will give me time to input all student data and set up classes)

Page 10: North san juan library manual

Schedule- What works• Friday- library closed

for classes (students come in as needed throughout the day.)

• This allows me to attend Librarian’s Meetings which are held approximately one Friday per month.

• As well as hold library AR incentives at the end of each six weeks without having to cancel my library classes.

• Fridays will also be used for processing books, running reports, maintaining the library webpage, planning, etc.

• PR- taking photos, submitting information requests, maintaining school webpage.

Page 11: North san juan library manual

Schedule- What didn’t work

• Non consecutive shelving time. (Last year I had 15 minutes here and there and 30 minutes other days.)

• Rotation (Being a part of the rotation)- at the start of the year I had to start the first week of school even though I was not finished inputting AR/ Destiny student information.

Page 12: North san juan library manual

Schedule- What doesn’t work

• Rotation- Also during inventory (the last two weeks of school) my classes had to be covered by different paraprofessionals since library was part of the rotation.

Proposed SchedulePlease consider the following

proposed schedule for the 2011-2012 school year.

Any grade level times can be swapped, they are just an example.
