Papers of the Rev. Henry Bradford of Northampton,

deposited by Miss K.F. Bradford, 1962-65 ( Accessions, Nos. 1962/52, 1962/115, 1963/25 and 1965/71).

The Rev. Henry Bradford was a Baptist minister who became minister of the Princes Street Chapel, Northampton in 1862. On 1?th February 1661+, at the height of an election campaign when Bradlaugh, the atheist, was standing for Northampton, he preached a sermon entitled "Christian Separation from the World" urging Christians not to support an atheist. As a result he was virtually dismissed from his chapel. A number of his supporters left with him, and they began to raise funds to build a new chapel "The Union Chapel" which was situated in St. Michael s Road. Support came from a l l over the country, and from Christians of many denominations. The church was opened on 21+th June 1666. In 1888 No. 1+4 Kingsley Road, Northampton "Bradford

1s House", was presented to the minister by

his friends and congregation, who had raised the money to have i t built.

Rev. Henry Bradford, 1884-6. Admiral King-Hall was a staunch supporter of the Union Chapel, and did much work to raise the funds for i t . He died in 1666.
