Northbrook Woman’s Club Mary Beth Smith, President August 2016 Janice Larson, Editor Welcome back! We have a great year planned for the Northbrook Woman’s Club! The board and many committees have been very active this summer putting together the plans for the coming year. We have new venues for meetings, wonderful programs, exciting special events and many community projects to participate in. Last year you may remember filling out a survey about the club. Your feedback did not fall on deaf ears. Many aspects of the plan for the coming year are in response to your feedback. Our fall “luncheon” will actually be a dinner this October at Marcello’s. It will be a girl’s night out with a Murder Mystery program. We hope that all of our members who work full time will join us for this fun evening event. Thanks to the diligent efforts of Toni Hyland and the technology committee, we will be rolling out our new membership platform this fall. We are working toward an October rollout. It will allow for electronic signups for events, committees, payments, etc. Our website will be more interactive and more secure, and the system will also allow us to manage our internal operations. This has been a challenging project and I am grateful to everyone who has played a part in the process. Another thank you goes to Toni Hyland for the coordination of the yearbook for this year. She has been a very busy and dedicated member this summer!! Actually…. the entire board has been amazing! Everyone was timely and thorough in putting together their plans for the year. There were many hours this summer in front of the computer, on the phone and in meetings putting all of the pieces in place to assure that we have a great year in 2016-17. The next time you see a board member, please say Thank You! So…. read thru your packet, send in your raffle tickets, sign up for activities, post them to your calendar and prepare for a great year. The 2016-17 Membership Committee is gearing up for the New Member Cocktail/Dinner Party, which will be held on September 17th from 7-10pm at the home of Carolyn Mulier. Our new member class, together with their sponsors, endorsers and members of the Board (and spouses/significant others) will gather to get to know one another better. Our new member class includes: LuAnn Brocato, Katie Coogan, Marica Cotler, Judy Cotter, Jessica Deming, Evelyn Levin, Sheri Levin, Debbie Oleson, Laurie Shults, Nancy Treleven, Heather Welch, Alison Whitlock, Maureen Wimbiscus and Sharon Yagoda. We also welcome back two reinstated members: Sharon Moyer (Sustainer) and Lynn Christos (Active) We had four Active members decide to move to Sustainer: Barbara Barry, Chris Heydt, Diane Smith and Kathy Weber. And we had five members decide to resign: Julie Allen, Christi Bartlett, Lucille Griffin, Sue Stebner and Clare Teal. Julie Karagianis’ daughter, Jenna and her husband Dan have a new daughter, Nia. She was born June 1st. Welcome – Nia!
Maggie McCarthy’s daughter, Maura McCarthy Sternberg got engaged on the 4th of July. She is marrying her high school sweetheart, Joe Shulman. They plan a November, 2017 wedding. The family is very happy about the news.

Tour Chicago’s Hottest Neighborhoods!
Join us for a tour of Chicago's Hottest Neighborhoods! The tour includes exploring the neighborhoods of Logan Square, Bucktown, Wicker Park, and walking the 606 (Chicago's own version of New York's High Line). Our expert guide will lead us on an exploration of the history and evolution of these neighborhoods and show us the highlights of Chicago's Boulevard system. We will enjoy lunch together at a local restaurant along the way (price of lunch is not included).
