On Feb. 4-6, 1994, Wayne Steele organized a Northern California Daffodil Society booth at the Alameda County Home and Garden Show at the Alameda County Fair Grounds in Pleasanton. He purchased and forced to bloom some pots of daffodils for new members as well as some of his own to show the variety of colors and forms available. He set up and arranged volunteers to host the booth.

Wayne reports that he has again made arrangements for an NODS booth at the 1995 Alameda County Home and Garden Show February 3, 4, & 5 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. He has purchased bulbs of Pasteline and Monal to force blooms for the show. He has it down to a science with the refrigeration and growth schedule after two years of practice. He invites any members who might have anything in bloom to share them at the show. Volunteers are also needed to give out literature and answer questions about daffodils and the NODS. As a bonus you get to see the show. Please talk to Wayne at the auction or call him at (510) 447-5261 if you can help in any way.

The NODS Fall Meeting and Auction/Raffle will be at the home of Mary Smith in Martinez on Sunday, October 9. There will be fantastic bulbs for the auction and raffle, purchased and donated by numerous growers, including Brian Duncan, Kate Reade, Clive Postles, Ron Scamp, Handy Hatfield, Mitsch/Havens, Oregon Trails, Bill Welch, Nancy Wilson, and some bulbocodium from Bill Ticknor. There will be a pot luck mid-afternoon meal. Details and directions to Mary Smith's home will be sent in a separate mailing.

Bob Spotts reports that he has several hundred seeds from his crosses and open polinated from his vast collection of cultivars for those of you who would like to try growing daffodils from seed. He has more than he can plant. You become the "parent" if you nurture them until they bloom. Bob will bring the seeds to the Auction/Raffle.

The 1995 NODS Daffodil Show will be the second weekend in March at the Marina Community Center , 340 Marina Blvd., Pittsburg. It will be a two day joint daffodil and camellia show called the Pittsburg Flower Festival.

The NODS is in the process of changing the data base for mailing labels and membership lists from a tired word processer to a computer. Your current label has been updated by hand and may not be accurate. Please let us know if we still do not have your accurate information by the time of the next mailing.
