Northgate recycles!!

In recognition of Earth Day, Northgate has begun to

recycle!

Recycling at

Northgate does not

require much effort at

all. Our teachers

have gone over what

goes in the blue recy-

cling bin and what

goes in the garbage

bin. At the end of

each day, our custodi-

ans collect the paper

in the blue bins and

the paper is then

placed in the green

and yellow ―Paper

Retriever‖ bin in the

parking lot. It is ex-

tra work for the cus-

todians to keep the

two kinds of trash

separate, but they real-

ize the impact it makes

on our world.

On the 16th of

March, elementary stu-

dents from Avalon and

Bellevue gathered at the

high school to show off

their talents in making

unique dishes designed

to wow the taste buds.

The event was spon-

sored by Sodexo, our

student nutrition pro-

vider and their future

chefs Healthy Sandwich

Challenge Program.

This national event is in

its fourth year at

Northgate and it is part

of Sodexo’s commit-

ment to getting stu-

dents thinking about

making healthy food

choices. The meals

weren’t only delicious;

they were healthy, too.

Every student who

attended put hard

work into their meals

and had impressive

results. The students

enjoyed themselves

and we hope to see

them back next year.

Start thinking healthy

and get your apron on!

The winner

received a basket of

cooking utensils and

her recipe was submit-

ted to the regional competi-

tion. All six finalists re-

ceived a chef hat, medals,

and a cookbook!

Look around, there’s so much plastic,

Let’s recycle, it’s fantastic.

Don’t forget, about paper and glass,

Recycle together, with your entire class.

We’ll make sure, we never litter,

Let’s recycle, we’re not quitters.

When we place our garbage, in the right bin,

Both us and nature, will clearly win.

Thanks for keeping the environ-ment

healthy and clean, Recycling is fun,

and also quite green.

Let’s recycle By Anitapoems.com We all need to

reduce our waste, Let’s do it now,

with plenty of haste.

It’s also important, for us to reuse,

If we’re really lucky, We’ll be on the news.

Our future, must be sustainable,

We can do it, it’s all attainable.

About our environment, we need to care,

It’s the only one we have, and we have to share.

Global warming, and greenhouse gases,

To see the harm, you don’t need glasses.

As a team, we’ll reduce pollution,

Caring is the first solution.

Waste and pollution By Anitapoems.com

First started in 1996 by the Acad-

emy of American Poets, National

Poetry month is held every April.

Many schools, publishers, libraries,

booksellers, and poets across the

United States come together to

celebrate poetry and how impor-

tant it is. Be sure to read the recy-

cling poems in our newspaper –

maybe try your hand at a poem and

drop it off in the library for publish-

ing in our May issue.

April is national poetry month!

Just think that

with each piece of pa-

per you place in the

blue recycle bin, you

are doing your part to

save the environment.

Let’s work together to

make a difference! And

remember, Northgate

recycles!!

Thank you Mr.

Kyle, teachers, custo-

dians, and staff for

starting up and en-

couraging recycling!

See below for

what can be recycled

and what cannot – a

rule of thumb would be

any food related items

such as food wrappers

or drinking bottles

SHOULD NOT be

placed in a blue recycle

bin. We are only recy-

cling paper!

Northgate News

It was announced

in the beginning of April

that our school will offi-

cially recycle. Most

teachers have informed

their students of this, but

it brings rise to the ques-

tion of what have we

been doing with all of

those blue bins that have

the recycle logo on it?

I’m suspecting that the

answer is nothing.

Maybe all the gar-

bage in the classroom in-

cluding the materials

meant for recycling—has

been thrown away. This

could be because our

school has not been recy-

cling enough or because

the blue bins have been

treated as trash bins.

Whatever the case, it has

to stop.

The blue recycling

bins are now strictly for

used paper items that can

be recycled and reused.

With Earth Day this

month on the 22nd, enforc-

ing recycling is a great

way for our school to cele-

brate keeping our Earth a

safe environment and do-

ing everything we can to

help keep it clean. So, the

next time you decide to

throw away a paper, re-

member to recycle it and

help our school become

more earth friendly.

Bad News: Not everyone is going to like you.

Restraint: the art of feeling good later – believe it or not, sometimes

etiquette is about what you don’t do

End grudges: don’t hang on to your anger

Forgive: don’t let friends who have hurt you stay in your head and

heart

Free up that space in your head and heart for more creative thinking

Keep an open door policy: today’s enemies might be tomorrow’s al-

lies

And remember ―Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.‖ - Oscar Wilde

National Li-

by the American Li-

(ALA).It was first

sponsored in 1958 and

has been a national

event ever since each

April.

April 13-19 is

National Library Week!

Libraries everywhere

are taking the time to

appreciate the value of

libraries in our commu-

nities. Libraries are

trusted places. Librar-

ies serve the needs of

the community –

whether it is by e-

books, technology

classes, materials for

English-language learn-

ers, programs for job

seekers, storybook

time, senior citizen pro-

grams, they offer some-

thing for everyone!!

Libraries and

librarians have a posi-

tive impact on many

people on a daily basis.

How has the library

changed your life? Stop

by the library and read

what some of our

Northgate students like

about the library.

There will be drawings

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to create something of your own?

Well there is a way you can do that with some household items. What you will need is :

Picture frame with glass

Permanent markers

Aluminum foil

First you’ll need to take the glass out of the frame carefully. Set the frame to the side and concentrate

on the glass. Take the markers and draw a picture on the back of the glass(no words) - NOT on the front (the

words will come out backwards).

Then once you’re done with that task, move you’re attention to the frame. Take the aluminum foil and

crumple it up. Once you are done crumpling, un-crumple the aluminum foil and wrap it around the back of

the frame. After that place the glass on the frame with the back facing the back. Secure the frame and you’re

done. If you follow these steps, you will end up with a wonderful stained glass photo.

How many years have you been in school musicals?

Four– three in the pit and one on the stage.

What was your favorite musical (if you have been in more than one musical)?

Acting-well, Oklahoma kind of narrows it down! In the pit- All Shook Up was a blast!

Why did you want to join the school musical?

I joined pit to become a better musician. Stage was a change of pace and I had heard some very forceful ar-guments from friends to join.

What was your part in the musical? Did you enjoy it and why?

Do I have to pick one? It probably would be when Thane and I did a Russian sailor dance when the judges told us to entertain.

If you have any advice for someone considering being in next year’s musical, what would it be?

I plan on going to the University of Akron for engineering. No, my plans will not involve acting, but I hope to be in musicals in a band or an orchestra there.

This book was really good, even though there are parts that are very disturbing. I like how the author lets us in on the conversations with Jason and his imagi-nary friends. This makes the story unique and in-teresting. The author does a great job with the writing, and the conver-sations with the friends aren’t as confusing as I thought they were going to be. Overall, I really liked this book and I rec-ommend it to anyone who likes stories that make you think.
