Letter from Ms Kriel We’ve come to the end of another successful year. It is amazing how much we have achieved together. We achieve so much because we work together as a team and this is one of the greatest strengths of the school and sums up all that Northwold is about. The children have worked incredibly hard over the last year but also had a fantastic time. In addition to the core curriculum and assessments, the children have enjoyed numerous trips to London museums, galleries and places of worship and further afield to Leeds Castle, Stonehenge, WWF Centre, Whipsnade Zoo and the Viney Hill Residential; they’ve listened to inspirational speakers; learned about world religions through a series of presentations from local faith leaders; took part in numerous school based productions including the Shakespeare Festival, the Nativity, Dress Up and Dance, a range of music events and of course the wonderful class assemblies; they performed at the Barbican and watched their own films broadcasted at The BFI IMAX; they learned about our justice system by performing a dramatization of a court case in the auspicious Old Bailey; they were introduced to architecture by partnering with LOM in the Open City Architecture competition (and were competition winners); they enjoyed winners trips to The Rainforest Café (by limousine) and Frinton on Sea and much, much more. I hope our pupils look back at their time at Northwold with fondness. This term the EYFS Baseline Assessment, Year 1 phonics, KS1 and KS2 national tests were all completed successfully. The percentage of pupils achieving a Good Level of Development at the end of their Reception Year and our KS1 SATs are in line with national averages. 100% of our pupils in Y6 achieved age expectation or higher in Maths, Writing and SPaG. We are waiting for confirmation of our reading results as we have asked for a small number of papers to be reviewed, but we know we are well above national average. One pupil scored 100% in all the tests and 3 more pupils scored 100% in 3 subjects. Children in other year groups are all doing well too and I am proud of the progress made this year. It was great to see how many parents came to our Celebration Day and congratulations to all our prize winners. Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes and it’s that time of year again. We are pleased to welcome Alexi Wilkinson, Fifi Olusanya, and Sophie Wakeford to our team. Sad farewells to Laura

Leonard, Lola Vidal and Erica Shintaku who have all found posts closer to home; Tosin Alabi leaves to take a post as a trainee director at The Young Vic; we also say goodbye to Beverly Watkins-Kowa, Angela Bilauri and Lourdes Delgado; and Noora Mohammed, Kayleigh Attzs, Aamir Karwa and Isobel Gage are returning to university. A very sad farewell to Adrian Braune who has been at our school since 2004. The school will not be the same without him. I would like to thank them all for their hard work and commitment to Northwold and wish them continued success in their next chapters. This is my final letter to you as the headteacher of Northwold. It is very sad and I knew it would be, but it is the right time for me to go. I have loved working at the school. It is an amazing school and a wonderful community. Teaching has changed a lot since I first started in the industry 31 years ago. It’s very pressurised and you have to give a lot of your life up to it and I want to have time to take up fresh challenges before I retire. I have not always got things right. Sometimes there is no ‘right’ but I have always tried to do my best to lead our diverse community with various values and approaches to life in a fair and balanced way , and our school has enjoyed immense success. Together we have demonstrated to the world that Northwold is a high perfoming school with staff and pupils who make positive contributions to our community and beyond. I’m able to leave at the pinnacle of my teaching career – because of our outstanding success. I want to thank pupils, parents, staff and governors because we have achieved this together. My time at Northwold has been, without a doubt, the best of my years in teaching and I will treasure the memories that I take with me. I know that a Head is only ever a custodian and I know that the school won’t fall apart without me! I leave the school in the capable care of Shelly-Ann Goulbourne and her team. They will continue to do an amazing job and I know that the school will continue to develop to even greater success.

Over the past weeks I have been deeply touched by the kind words, tributes, celebrations and gifts given to me by the community. I feel humble and I am grateful. I believe that if you are brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello. It is hard to leave, but it is time. However, this isn’t goodbye because I will always carry Northwold in my heart. Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxing summer break. 100% Attendance Prizes At the end of each academic year, we reward the children who come to school on time and every day of the academic year. Children who come to school every day get great academic benefits from doing so. The reward – a limousine trip to Central London to The Rainforest Café for a delicious lunch. The number of children earning this incredible treat increases every year – 50 this year. As an extra prize, all 50 children were entered into a prize draw for an iPad. The draw was made at The Celebration Day at The Round Chapel and the winner is Elizabeth (Russia Class). Congratulations to her.

Celebration Day Our annual celebration of our students’ achievements both academic and musical brought the school year to a delightful crescendo. There were stunning performances from African Drummers, Steel Pans, choirs, classes singing in their phases and the first sight of the school orchestra – a joy to watch. A video of the event will be uploaded to the school’s YouTube channel during the summer break.

Celebration Day was also the opportunity to congratulate around 100 students for all their great efforts and successes. Their names are listed below. Congratulations to them all.

School Prefects and Heads of House We have new student leaders for the coming year. Congratulations to Esme, David, Cori-Ann and Farhaan. You will do a fantastic job next year and you have a great team of prefects to help you.

Ms Kriel – Thank You Assembly The school gathered on Thursday 20 July to say thank you to Ms Kriel on the occasion of her retirement from Headship. Mrs Goulbourne, the new Headteacher, presented Ms Kriel with a gift and tributes were paid to Mr Kriel by former and current colleagues. Ms Kriel is not going forever and she will be returning to Northwold School in October in her role as C.E.O. of Amayatrust.

The Jungle Book – Year 6 Show Trust in me! This year’s show was incredible. A little twist on Rudyard Kipling’s tale saw the Year 6’s retell the tale with a girl-cub defying the laws of the jungle and standing up to the tiger Shere Khan. There were wonderful wonderful performances by every single actor. Huge thank you’s to Ms Janine and Ms Alabi for writing and directing the show, Miss Jo and Ms Isobel for turning the Middle Hall into a jungle*, Christian on piano and the tireless Mrs Kaur for the fabulous costumes. Watch the film here on our YouTube channel. *We have now run out of green paint.
