From the Headmaster MR P L McAVOY
Quote of the Week "Success is not a destination, but the road that you're on. Being successful means that you're working
hard and walking your walk every day. You can only live your dream by working hard towards it. That's living your dream."
~ Marlon Wayans
26 of the Best Pieces of Advices … 1. Have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you. 2. Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. 3. “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your
former self.” Ernest Hemingway 4. Don’t make decisions when you’re angry. Don’t make promises when you’re happy. 5. “Never argue with a stupid person, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
Mark Twain 6. Only pack what you can carry yourself. 7. Remember you’ll always regret what you didn’t do rather than what you did. 8. “You’d worry less about what people think about you if you knew how seldom they do.” David Foster
Wallace 9. If you blame it on someone else, don’t expect it to get better. 10. “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, but there will always be someone who hates
peaches.” Dita von Teese 11. If the grass is greener on the other side, there’s probably more manure there. 12. Don’t give up what you want most for what you want now. 13. “Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.” Isaac Asimov 14. Strive to be the man you want your daughter to marry. 15. “Remember only enemies speak the truth. Friends and lovers lie endlessly, caught in the web of duty.”
Stephen King 16. “Never forget your car keys will change your car from one tonne of inert metal into one of the most
deadly killing machines that has been invented. 17. Wait 24 hours before getting mad and reacting about anything. If it doesn’t bother you in 24 hours time,
it probably isn’t important enough to get mad over. 18. Never make someone a priority who only makes you an option. 19. Try not to take anything personally. No one thinks about you as much as you do. 20. “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”
Sirius Black 21. Figure out what you love to do, and then figure out how to get someone to pay you to do it. 22. If you treat a woman like a queen, and she treats you like a jester, your princess is in another castle. 23. Whenever something happens that makes you sad, ask yourself whether you’d still care about it when
you’re ninety. 24. Be persistent. When knowledge and ability aren’t enough, be persistent. 25. “Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. It’s all up to you. So get up off your keister, get
out of here, and go start doin’ the work. Nothing in this world that’s worth having comes easy.” Bob Kelso
26. Happiness is a choice and everything else is a matter of perspective.

Sport & Culture
From the Head of Extramurals MR G. LE ROUX [email protected] Deputy Headmaster – Extramurals
Welcome back to all our learners and parents. Hopefully the short holiday was enough to refuel and energise the body and mind for the final stretch of the year.
From a sporting perspective we had a very busy holiday with 7 teams across 3 sporting codes involved in numerous fixtures across the country. Well done to all the learners involved and thank you so much to the staff that were involved and gave up their holiday to assist our boys. A highlight of the holiday was most probably our 1st Cricket team beating King Edward VII, a school with a very strong cricketing culture and history, on the final day of the Michaelmas festival held in Pietermaritzburg. Well done boys. There were other great results over this time so well done to all learners involved.
With the disruption of the storm this past Tuesday a number of fields are unavailable for use this weekend for Cricket, so not all teams have matches, but from next week we will have a full set of fixtures against Westville. Please encourage your son to continue to attend practices and matches for the remainder of this short sporting term.
During our High Performance lessons that are built into the school time table, a handful of boys are not fulfilling their commitment in bringing kit to school. I need to remind all parents and boys that this is probably the easiest way for boys to earn marks for Life Orientation. Each lesson boys are awarded marks for just bringing their kit and participating, irrespective of skill level or ability. As a parent please ask your son when he has PE on his timetable and ensure he has the correct kit for the day to avoid losing marks for this portion of Life Orientation.
I wish all our learners the best for the new term.
