Nissan confirmed in Geneva that the Qashqai will be the company’s first vehicle in Europe to feature Autonomous Drive, set to be released in 2017. Piloted Drive 1.0 will allow the car to drive autonomously and safely in a single lane, in heavy traffic conditions on highways.

The Geneva Motor Show is held in March every year at the Geneva Palexpo and is considered to be one of the more important dates in the automotive calendar. The show gives top manufactures from around the world an opportunity to debut their latest models and concepts for the future. March marked an important landmark for the popular and multi award winning Nissan Qashqai. The Sunderland plan has now built more Qashqais than any other car in its three decades of manufacturing in Europe.
Production of the crossover at the Sunderland factory recently surpassed the previous record set by another of Nissan’s European icons; the Micra, with a record of 2,368,704 units. The Qashqai reached 2,368,705 units in less than 10 years. No other car in the history of the UK car industry has been beyond 2m units in such a short period of time, with the plant producing around 1,200 Qashqais every day.
The Qashqai is styled and engineered for European customers in the UK-based design and technical centres, and is Nissan’s top-selling car in Europe. It is also the best-selling crossover in Europe, hence why it has required round-the-clock production since 2010.
After a string of awards, demand for the Nissan Qashqai shows no signs of slowing down. In September 2015, the second-generation model became the fastest ever UK-built vehicle to smash the half-million mark. Today a new Qashqai is built every 62 seconds, or 58 per hour at the Sunderland site.
Later on this year, the Sunderland factory will be celebrating its 30th birthday, it now manufacturers the Qashqai, Juke, Leaf, Note and the Infiniti Q30.

FUEL STATION OF THE FUTURE
Nissan also revealed an exciting glimpse into the future of fuel stations at the Geneva Motor Show 2016. Nissan has teamed up with renowned architects Foster + Partners to create an idea of what the future might hold for Electric vehicles and fuel stations.

The landmark partnership illustrated their ideas on a stunning two minute video featuring the Nissan Leaf and futuristic IDS concept, which concluded the fuel station of the future could actually be the car itself.
The collaboration concludes a 12-month partnership which offers how living may change in the future and cars may interact with their environment as populations adopt zero emissions and piloted drive technologies.
The idea incorporates a range of pioneering Nissan technologies, hinting at how; vehicle-to-grid, battery storage, wireless charging, autonomous drive technology and over-the-air connectivity could combine to revolutionise how energy is used and distributed in Europe’s major cities.

Later this year an all-new Light Commercial vehicle will be added to the current range. The NV300 will be a new mid-sized van that will sit between
the NV200 and NV400 as a successor to the popular Primastar.
The introduction of this model will strengthen Nissan’s position as an LCV manufacturer with one of the widest ranges in Europe. The entire range offers a market-leading five year/100,000 miles LCV manufacturer warranty and for added peace of mind the warranty will extend to cover all Nissan genuine accessories.
The new LCV will offer enhanced efficiency and practicality over its previous model and will use Nissan’s new global name policy for its LCVs. Standing for Nissan Van, the NV badge will be used on all purpose-built vans. It has also been outlined in the future that all Nissan trucks will be badged NT.
Philippe Guérin-Boutaud, Corporate Vice President said: “The new NV300 will be an important contributor to deliver Nissan’s ambitious plans to grow its LCV business in Europe”.
