Norwegian elected representatives in favour ofpeace, democracy and self-determination in the Basque Country

The signators declare themselves willing to become members of the Gernika Network, the international network of elected representatives in favour of the Basque Country's right to self-determination. Inaddition, we declare our support to the following demands:

1) We support the initiative to gain a political and socialnormalization in the Basque Country. We share the belief that a democratic solution to the political conflict has to be obtained in a total absence of violence. We support the basque parties' demand of a verifiable and permanent ceasefire from ETA.

2) We support the basque people's right to self-determination, as formulated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The basquepeople must be made able to decide their own political future.

3) We condemn the limitation of the freedom of association in the Basque Country. To exclude substantial parts of the electorate from freely expressing their political will is not acceptable in a democratic state. We support the demand that the banning of Batasunaand other political parties must be lifted.

Norske folkevalgte for fred, demokrati og selvbestemmelse i Baskerland

Undertegnerne erklærer seg villige til å bli medlemmer av Gernika-nettverket, det internasjonale nettverket av folkevalgte som støtter baskernes rett til Selvbestemmelse. I tillegg gir vi vår tilslutning til følgende punkter:

1) Vi støtter initiativet til en politisk og sosial normalisering i Baskerland. Vi deler standpunktet om at en demokratisk løsning på den politiske konflikten må skje i totalt fravær av vold. Vi stiller oss bak de baskiske partienes krav til ETA om en etterprøvbar og permanent våpenhvile.

2) Vi støtter baskernes rett til selvbestemmelse, slik den er formulert i FNs konvensjon om sivile og politiske rettigheter. Det baskiske folk må selv få bestemme sin politiske fremtid.

3) Vi fordømmer begrensingen av organisasjonsfriheten i spansk Baskerland. Å ekskludere store deler av elektoratet fra fritt å uttrykke sin politiske vilje er uholdbart i en demokratisk stat. Vi støtter kravet om at forbudet mot Batasuna og andre politiske partier må oppheves.
