On a whim a few years ago MMS Estate Finds
stepped into the antiques and collectibles arena.
This decision was one of those spur of the
moment choices that has grown into quite an
adventure. MMS Estate Finds chose to begin their
antiques journey at Norwood Antique Mall. As
the months passed MMS honed their antiquing
skills and their shop grew bigger and bigger.
Theyve since expanded to Parkersburg Antique
Mall and finally, at Nostalgia!
Although they would never admit it, the MMS
folks are unsung heroes who are willing to share
their time, talents, and energy to help make a
project or event run better and smoother. They
have no problem helping you lighten your load.
MMS Estate Finds can be found at Nostalgia in the
center of our store just past the customer service
desk on the left. They are also located at the foot
of the steps in Norwood. Be sure to stop by and
visit their shops.
Cleaning milk glass is easy! Wash in
warm, not hot, soapy water. Add twoteaspoons of vinegar to warm rinse
water. Rinse in the water vinegar
mixture. Air dry.
Bottle brushes can be used to clean more
than bottles. They can be used to clean
bud vases, too.
Grimy enamelware should be washed
with hot, soapy water and a soft cloth.Do not use anything abrasive. Enamel is
made of glass and can be scratched or
chipped.
Happy 2013 to you all! Toodles for now
from Miss Perfect. Cheers for now!

Collecting Milk Glass
When we hear the term milk glass we often think of the creamy, whiteglassware of yesteryearthe kind of glass that lined the shelves of every fiand dime store. Our grandmothers had these lovely items sitting around t
house decorating the tagre and the powder room vanity. Today, weautomatically visualize white hobnail glassware. Little did we know, therebit more to it than that.
Something you may not know about milk glass is that it comes in colors ot
than white. Milk glass was produced in pink, blue, green, brown and black
name a few. Milk glass originated in Venice, Italy in the 16th century but, t
most collectible pieces are from the 17 th century. Its ironic, but true.
When looking for an addition to your collection its beneficial to know thatpiece originally had been painted and if the glass retains even a smidge of
paint, its best to leave it there. In other words, refrain from peel the last
bit of paint.
My final rule of thumb isif you love the item, add it to your collection.Youre the one who will admire it the most. Beauty is in the eyeof the beholder. Happy collecting!

ENAMELWARE
Enamelware first gained its popularity around
the end of the 19th century when it becamereadily available in mail-order catalogs and
local retail establishments. A wide variety ofitems were stamped from thin sheets of iron or
aluminum and then coated in enamel. These
items quickly became necessary pieces for
anyones kitchen such as biscuit cutters, ladlesand baking tins. Since these enamel pieces
were so much lighter, yet sturdier than the
kitchenware that was used in previous decades,it became an immediate hit with the lady of the
house. Although the very fashionable china
was indeed, much prettier it was also quite
fragile. This often relinquished the heirloom
china to the cupboard and enamelware becamethe mainstay in every kitchen.
Todays collector knows that enamelware canbe identified in different classifications:
graniteware, ironware and agateware.
Graniteware seems to be the most recognizable
term and is highly sought after by todayscollectors. All forms of enamelware were
produced in a wide range of colors such as red, blue, purple, brown, green, pink and white. The
patterns were just as varied as the color
choices. Speckled pieces are often snatched up
to fill an empty void in a country kitchen.
French enamelware usually features a floral
motif these are considered a rare find today.
Since enamelware lasts forever, it is often
featured in primitive dcor design. Its presence
gives a true impression of everything that is
good and sturdy. Its bright colors are often the
centerpiece of a well-prepared vignette. Both
Norwood and Nostalgia offer a large selectionof enamelware for your decorating needs. Stop
by to see us today!
