Romans 1:1-17 (NIV) 1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David,

Page 6: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. 6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

Page 7: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

Page 8: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

9 God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.

Page 9: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong--12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

Page 10: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome.

Page 11: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Step#3 -Think/Ponder

What is the

main point of

the passage?

Page 13: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

The Main PointThe Gospel is the power of God for salvation for all and we have an obligation to share it.

Page 14: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

What does it

teach me

about God?

Step#3 -Think/Ponder

Page 15: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

What can we learn about God?

God promised the Gospel beforehand

through his prophets in

the Holy Scripture. (1:2)

Humanly-speaking, Jesus was

a descendant of David. (1:3)

Jesus is the Son of God (1:4)

He resurrected from the dead (1:4)

Jesus Christ is our Lord (1:4)

Page 16: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

What can we learn about God?

The Roman believers are loved

by God and called to be

his holy people. (1:7)

God is our Father (1:7)

God is able to save (1:16)

The righteousness of God is

revealed through the Gospel

and it is obtained by faith. (1:17)

Page 17: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

Lessons regarding the Gospel (Romans 1-5)

It was planned and foretold by God

through his prophets

– not a random plan. (1:2)

It is about a person - our Lord Jesus

(1:3-4)

And this Jesus resurrected

from the dead (1:4)

What is the Gospel?

Page 18: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

Lessons regarding the Gospel (Romans 1-5)

It is power of God that

brings salvation to

everyone who believes

(1:16)

In the Gospel, the

righteousness of God is

revealed. A righteousness

that we received through

faith not works. (1:17)

Page 19: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

A brief theology of the Gospel –two key truths

1. No one is righteous

2. Salvation is by

God’s grace alone

in Christ alone

through faith alone.

Romans 3:21-25 (NLT) 21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

Page 21: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Page 22: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

Page 23: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.

Page 24: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

27 Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. 28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.

Page 25: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

29 After all, is God the God of the Jews only? Isn’t he also the God of the Gentiles? Of course he is. 30 There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles.

Page 26: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

What does it means to put our faith in Jesus?

Romans 10:9

That if you confess with your

mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and

believe in your heart that God

raised him from the dead, you will

be saved.

Page 27: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

Paul and the Gospel

He is not ashamed

of the Gospel (1:16)

Paul was eager to

preach the Gospel (1:15)

Paul felt obligated to

preach the Gospel (1:14)

Page 28: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

Romans 1:1-17

We should not be ashamed

of the Gospel too.

Step#4 - ACT - respond

We should be eager

to share the Gospel too.

We have an obligation

to share the Gospel too.

3 Keys principles from Galatians 6:7-10

•7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

•8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Page 30: Not ashamed of the gospel romans 1 (1-17)

3 Keys principles from Galatians 6:7-10

•9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

•10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
