SEALANT NOTES

Sealants @ Exterior:

1. Low Modulus Neutral Curing Silicone Sealant:  Dow Corning 790:  Porous substrates, such asmasonry, cast stone, and stone joints.  Most of the time DC-790 will bond well to these substrateswithout priming.  The low modulus performance is also required by most EIFS manufacturers. CD-790 will be required at window perimeter joints; primer is typically required for adhesion tometal surfaces.  Equivalent sealants are manufactured by Tremco (Spectrum 1), Pecora (890).

2. Medium Modulus Neutral Curing Silicone Sealant:  Dow Corning 756/795:  Non-porous substrates,such as glass, glass-to-metal, and metal-metal.  For storefronts and curtainwalls, use DC-795 ratherthan polyurethane or butyl sealants for hidden interior sealant work inside aluminum framing. Equivalent sealants are manufactured by Tremco (Spectrum 2), Pecora (864).

3. Silyl Terminated Polyether Sealant:  Sonneborn Sonolastic 150:  This sealant combines the benefits ofsilicone (UV stability) and urethane (paintability and primerless adhesion).  Use at fiber cementsiding joints and joints between fibercement siding and adjacent construction.

4. Multi-Component Polyurethane Sealant:  Sonneborn NP2 or Tremco Dymeric 240FC are acceptable.

5. Exterior  Sheathing Joints:  See Air/Water Barrier Spec. section.

6. Warranty:  Silicone sealants to have a 20 year manufacturer's performance warranty.  A sealantshould have a 2-5 year installers warranty.

7. Sheet Metal Flashing:  All splices should have a minimum 4” lap sealed with a bed of DC-795.

8. Backer Rod: Provide a jacketed backer rod to avoid the out-gassing often experienced when closedcell backer rod is abraded.  Basis of design should be Sof Rod by Nomaco.

9. Adhesion Testing:  Adhesion testing and preparation requirements should be provided by thesealant manufacturer.
