    CISCO AnyConnect VPN (Client) for Windows OS Devices

    NOTE: Cisco AnyConnect VPN requires Windows 7 or higher.

    Adding VPN to Your Trusted Sites 1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.

    2. From the Control Panel, choose Internet Options (Window 8 users choose Network and Internet, then Internet Options).

    3. Click the Security tab.

    4. On the Security tab, choose the Trusted Sites zone.

    5. In the Trusted Sites zone, click the Sites button.

    6. In the Add this website to the zone field, type https://remote.rockvillemd.gov and then

    click Add.

    7. Click Close on the Trusted Sites screen.

    8. Click OK on the Security tab to complete.

    Installing and Connecting to the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility

    Client

    1. Go to the City’s website www.rockvillemd.gov, and log-in to Employee Resources. Navigate to Departments, Information Technology then select the City of Rockville VPN

    Downloads page. Click Download next to Windows 7 or above in the Cisco AnyConnect

    VPN Client Section.

    2. When form shown below appears, click Run to begin the setup of the VPN application. NOTE: if you download from another browser, such as Chrome or Firefox, you will

    need to save the downloaded file, find the file, the double-click it to perform the install.

    3. When the “Welcome to Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup Wizard” dialog box is displayed, click Next

    4. Choose “I accept the terms in the License Agreement” then click Next.

    5. Click Install to begin the installation process.|

    6. Click Yes to allow the Any Connect Secure Mobility client to be installed on your computer.

    7. Click Finish

    8. (Windows 7 users, Windows 8 users see below)

    Click the Start button click All Programs, double click the Cisco folder. Double

    click on the AnyConnect client to start it.

    (Windows 8 users only, Windows 7 users continue to step 9)

    a. Right click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen, then select Search from the pop-up menu.

    b. Enter “Cisco” in the Search field.

    c. Select Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, from the list of automatically populated options.

    9. When the dialog box shown below is displayed, click the symbol in the bottom left of the box. The symbol looks like a little gear.

    10. In the Virtual Private Network (VPN) dialog box confirm that you are on the Preferences tab, then uncheck the “Block” option and close the dialog box by clicking the X in the

    top right corner of the box.

    11. Enter https://remote.rockvillemd.gov then click Connect.

    12. When prompted, enter your Rockville network login username and password then click OK.

    13. To verify you are connected to the VPN hover the mouse over the AnyConnect icon which is in the hidden icon system tray in the lower right portion of your screen and

    looks like a ball with u-shaped green blue lines crossing.

    14. (Windows 7 users, Windows 8 users see below)

    Click the Start button , click All Programs, click the Accessories folder then

    select the Remote Desktop Connection option.

    (Windows 8 users only, Windows 7 users continue to step 15)

    a. Right click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen, then select

    Search from the pop-up menu.

    b. Enter “Remote” in the Search field. Select Remote Desktop Client from the list of

    automatically populated options.

    15. Type the name of your work computer in the box. Your work computer name is your first initial last name followed by –pc (or –lt if you use a laptop instead of a computer

    while at work). Refer to the screen shot below for an example. After entering your

    computer name, click Connect.

    16. When prompted to enter your credentials type our domain name and your Rockville network login user name in the format rock\name as shown in the example screenshot

    below. On the second line, enter your Rockville network login password then click OK.

    17. Select Accept at the Unauthorized Access Prohibited warning screen and access your desktop.

    18. Click OK at the City of Rockville window to proceed to your work PC login screen.

    19. At the logon screen, enter your Rockville network login user name and password. When finished click the arrow to continue.

    20. When you ae finished with your VPN session, click the “X” in the upper right hand corner of the screen to logout of your work Windows desktop.

    21. Finally, to log off the VPN click the AnyConnect icon in the System Tray, then click Disconnect.
