KNIGHTLY NOTES PAGE 1 NOTE FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT Dear Brothers in Christ, Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Advent is a time of becoming Joy-filled! Alleluia! During Lent, we prepare ourselves for the Redemption of the Crucifixion and the Gory of the Resurrection, but Advent is pure Joy when we join with the priests of Maccabees and sing, “He is coming.” The great Monastics of the early Church, like St. Benedict, practically invented hospitality as we know it. His three major tenets were work, prayer and welcoming. Prior to his community, only servants and slaves worked. He made work honorable; the ‘haves’ of the era were dilatants. The poor, the laborers and the sick were outcasts. It is a notion that still persists even in our free, democratic society. “The Great Unwashed,” think Ebola or AIDS instead of leprosy and TB. The poet, Emma Lazarus calls them the “wretched refuse, yearning to be free.” The very word ‘hospital’ comes from offering help to the least of our brothers. Are we prepared to welcome this Infant Child who can turn our world upside- down? I am reminded that before we can open our homes or our hearts, we must open our minds. The easiest way to do this is one on one. If a damaged soul were to arrive at our front door, small, sick, cold and hungry every one of us would jump into action. We do it every day for kittens and puppies. As for meditation this month: How is our family shaped by the prayers and actions of our small Church and our big Church? What lessons are we teaching as we fill baskets for others? As we ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’, let us remember to be that shining light as we follow His star. PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF FATHER

MCGIVNEY Founder of the Knights of Columbus in 1882

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and

orphan, you called your priest Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of

Christian family life and the lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life

and virtue may we follow your Son Jesus Christ more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up

his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that

we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable

servant Father Michael J McGivney on earth according to the design of Your Holy will. Through his intercession,

grant the favor I now present( make your request) Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please report all favors received to: The Fr McGivney Guild 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven CT 06510-3326

ATTENTION PRAYER PARTNERS!

Gentlemen and Ladies,

Next month we will be celebrating the incarnation and birth of our savior. This is an opportunity to send a

card with a note to your teen(s) preparing for Confirmation. You could share a treasured memory about

Christmas - Midnight Mass, visiting churches, setting up a crèche, decorating your tree/house, special

traditional dishes prepared by family or maybe receiving a much desired gift as a child. Bring your card(s)

to the meeting next week or drop them off in the parish office next weekend. I will collect the cards and get

them to the Youth Ministry office so they can prepare them for the teens to receive at the class before their

Christmas break.

Looking forward to seeing you as we begin our Advent season at our meeting next week!

Paula Donofrio

“I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every

month.”

Our guarantees set us apart

Knights of Columbus life insurance offers something precious

few other financial products can — guarantees. As long as you

pay your premiums, the policy proceeds will be there for your

beneficiaries should something happen to you. We call that peace

of mind, and that’s what we offer with our Shield for Life.

We guarantee the cash value in your whole life policies will be

there.

We guarantee the rates on your term insurance.

We guarantee our retirement products will provide a stream

ofincome when you need it.

On top of those product guarantees, I guarantee that I will offer

professional, high-quality service that you would expect from our

organization.

You don’t have to take my word for it. The Order consistently

earns the highest ratings for strength and security from AM Best.

There is no more highly rated life insurance provider in North

America. When you couple this with all the charitable and

volunteer work of the Order, it’s hard to beat the value of

Knights of Columbus Insurance.

I would suggest that a principal reason that we were able to

achieve those accolades is because we remain steadfastly

committed to the vision of Father Michael J. McGivney by

providing life insurance by brother Knights for brother Knights.

That commitment is an essential core value of the Order, and our

core values permeate all levels of our organization. These

principles for marketing are summed up by our Golden Rule:

“In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the

following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions

surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the

same circumstances, I would apply to myself.”

Give me a call today to discuss how our products can bring that

peace of mind to you and your family.

Ladies Auxiliary

Dear Ladies, Wanted to thank everyone again this month for all of your help and support. Nov 20th was our visit to Fawn House and it was a very nice visit. I would like to thank all the ladies who came with me to support the women of Brown House. This would include Pat LaRiccia, Mary Ann O’Reilly, Sandy D’Agostino, Fran Egan and Lynne Niebauer. It is a very humbling experience whenever we go there and hopefully next time more of us can attend. The women of Fawn House are in need for someone who cares about them to talk to. They have had hard lives and are very grateful for our physical, spiritual and material support. I would like to extend a big thank you to Sandy Castro and to Sandy D’Agostino, who worked very hard and made over 900 flyers for the Breakfast with St Nick event and distributed them to be sent home with the kids in CCD right after Thanksgiving. It is great publicity for the Breakfast. Advent Starts the weekend of Nov 29-30. The Knights are going to be giving out the Keep Christ in Christmas buttons in the plaza that weekend. November 29 and 30 were on the original schedule to include religious goods and Pancake Breakfast. Both events are cancelled. Nov 30th at 3pm –The Bishop is celebrating a Memorial Mass for all Deceased Knights at Our Lady of Las Vegas Parish. All are encouraged to attend. Dec 4 at 730 pm is our next meeting. Don’t forget to bring your Prayer Partner cards and the cookies for the Cookie exchange if you would like to participate. We will be looking for help with Breakfast with St Nick on Dec 7th.. We will be decorating/setting up the hall for the breakfast at 1000, then for religious goods on Dec 6th. Dec 7th is the Breakfast with St Nick. We will be needing Help with the Breakfast as well as help with Auxiliary Religious Goods Sales. Dec 11 6pm -Christmas party at Bistro at Sienna. This is a great dinner and a great chance to celebrate the spirit of the season together. I will end with a nice quote for Christmas:

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it

all the year.” ― Charles Dickens I pray that we may all find peace in being truly thankful for all our Blessings . Wishing everyone a very Blessed and Merry Christmas.

COUNCIL RECOGNITION

At the State Mid Term Meeting, our Council was recognized for two achievements:

Last year Supreme had a contest for new members, each Officer was to bring in one new member, as you can see we exceeded that with a total of 28.

This Plaque is more of an accomplishment and I wanted everyone to see this one. It is a true tribute to our Past Grand Knight Chuck; it seems we came within one new insurance member from being a Star Council and that one was actually in underwriting. This plaque is awarded to Councils which meet all the other requirements, so we need to celebrate this accomplishment and congratulate Chuck for a great year

365 CLUB INFO

This program is available to Brother Knights in serious financial needs and is intended to help for things like keeping the power on when unforeseen financial situations happen. These funds are limited and come from the penny a day we are asked to contribute each year. Our Council passes a canister at each meeting and then once a year it is counted and sent to the State 365 Chairman. Below is a flow chart of the process.
