The conference will focus on mobile devices in education, best practices to integrate in curriculum, management & infrastructure, and classroom ideas. The event is open to everyone from classroom teachers, administrators, to technology directors. If districts are in the planning stages of acquiring mobile devices or if they have had a 1:1 structure for a while or need ideas to bridge technol-ogy and curriculum, we would love your participation and collaboration. This is an excellent opportunity to net-work with area schools, and share ideas and transform our educational practices to reflect 21st century job skills.

Palestine ISD will be hosting an Educational Technology Conference entitled “iHeartDevices” on August 8, 2013 co-sponsored by

TCEA (Texas Computer Education Agency) and Apple.

Registration is open at tcea.org and more information can be found on the website iHeartDevices.weebly.com. For more information contact Shannon Leisure at extension 1270 or Kim Nelms at 1272.

PJH NEWS

Big kudos to our counselor, Mrs. Paris and the office staff for working so diligently to prepare our campus for our STAAR test this week. All your hard work has made a complicated, and stressful situation successful. Thanks for all you do to support our teachers and students behind the scenes.

Palestine Junior High students Jake Neal and Nick Williamson were fine representative of our dis-trict last week at the Rusk district track meet. They witnessed someone in the parking lot in need of emergency treatment. They acted as first responders and acquired emergency treatment for the person as well as informing the appropriate adults. All who witnessed the man-ner in which these young men responded were overwhelmed with the way these men respond-ed and acted in a serious situation.

Ms Ritz and her theater students are working after school to put the final touches on their Spring production, “Virgil’s Wedding”. They will be performing for the public at the high school auditorium on Friday, April 12th and Saturday, April 13th at 6:30 pm. This will be a treat for all.

TENNIS

Palestine Junior High tennis team is working hard in preparation for their first tournaments. We will have students participating in sin-gles matches as well as doubles. Coach Tyler has worked hard to or-ganize and locate other junior high school teams and tournaments for our players. We have nine students who are committed to our new sport. Our first tournament will be in Groesbeck this month.

KIK-KATS

Junior high girls are excited to learn they are now able to try out for Kit Kats. They look forward to the challenges of this great group who represents our district.

ART This weekend concluded our art exhibit downtown Palestine. Mrs. Hamel, PJH Art Teacher and her students showcased their work at Lee Loveless Photography during the Dogwood Trails. Many of our Dogwood Trails visitors were able to view the work of our students as well as our parents. It was an honor to have our art work included with other local artists.

“Southside students truly are WILD about learning”

Southside has begun a JEDI ACADEMY with our 3rd grade students. This ACADEMY has given us an opportunity to help our students in specific areas of need prior to the STAAR test. Trust me when I say…Southside is USING THE FORCE!!

On Tuesday, Southside hosted a STAAR parent information night which helped to provide our parents with important infor-mation and answer any questions they may have had pertaining to the test.

This week our 2nd grade students had the pleasure of participating in the Ms. Merryman’s Manners Clinic which focuses on “Keys to Becoming a Better Me”.

Also this week, Mrs. Woody and Mrs. Hardy still have our 2nd and 3rd graders “Walking Across Texas” during their specials rotation!

Northside first grade students attended an Easter egg hunt at Greenbrier Nursing Home on Thursday before Easter. The workers "hid" 3000 eggs and provided cookies and punch.

Mrs. Pritchett's students made silly putty to put in plastic Easter eggs to take home for the weekend.

Art students are beginning preparation for the Second Annual Northside May Art Show. This dinosaur is the first project.

We are winding down our Breakfast Promotion this week and will have the numbers next week. We will notify each

Elementary school which grade was the winner. The winning grade can decide what the school will eat for lunch on

Friday, April 12. We will also pick names at the Junior High and High School for their prizes.

East Texas Food Bank has been selected by Feeding America to participate in the Wal-Mart Foundation’s “Fighting

Hunger Together” Facebook campaign beginning April 1-30, 2013. This campaign will award grants of $45,000.00

to 40 Feeding America food banks that receive the most votes during the month of April at Wal-Mart’s Facebook page.

This money must go to programs that address child hunger.

Here is the link that will be publicized and where you can vote:

http://bit.ly/45KForETFB (this address is case sensitive)

Please help promote this link with friends, family members, business owners here in Palestine, but also friends and

family, no matter where they live, can vote for the East Texas Food Bank by clicking the link and voting. Vote once a

day, everyday in April and help Palestine receive additional funds for the Weekend Back Pack program that helps

students get nutritious meals on the weekends, who wouldn’t get them otherwise.
