Note Names on the Treble Staff
A staff is where music notes “live”.
The Staff
A staff has 5 lines…
And four spaces…
Notes can live on lines.
And notes can live in spaces.
We know this because of the note head.
To determine if the note is on a line, a line will go through the middle of the note head.
To determine if the note is in a space, the note heads will be in between two lines.
When identifying notes, musicians ALWAYS count bottom to top.
Notes moving higher on the staff have a high pitch.
Notes moving lower on the staff have a low pitch.
Each clef has a special way of identifying note names. Kind of like a secret code.
Treble Clef
On the treble clef, notes on spaces, spell the word FACE.
F
AC
E
However, on the treble clef, notes on the lines do not…
E
GB
DF
Musicians use a sentence to help learn the line notes.
Every
Good
BoyDoes
Fine
Together, these two “codes” enable us to read music.
