processing

-1st tangible evidence of this new concept came in

1964, when the IBM placed on the market a

machine called the MT/ST(magnetic tape/selectric

typewriter).

-includes all of the formal and informal electronic

systems primarily concerned with the

communication of information to and from persons

both inside and outside the firm.

SHORT HISTORY

-idea came from a combination of technological innovation and

the Information Age.

the concept has roots in the Industrial Revolution, where

parallels to current work styles, specifically working from home,

have been drawn.

first commercial application of a virtual office occurred in 1994,

Ralph Gregory founded "The Virtual Office, Inc“

in Boulder, Colorado.
