NOTES FROM MR. FRAZIER
We are just two weeks away from the start of the 201617 school year,
so it is about time for all WHS Musicians to be getting out their
instruments and making sure everything is in good working order. If there
are any problems or concerns with your instrument, please make sure to
get it checked out at one of our local music stores, Coffey Music or
Menchey Music. Both offer repair services as well as all accessory needs
that you might have. And don't forget to pick up a lock for your
instrument locker (except tubas, string basses, celli, and percussionists).
See you soon.
If you have not yet gotten involved with helping IMB, please find a way to be a part of the great
support that they provide for WHS Instrumental Music. This week alone, parents helped provide a
picnic and ice cream social for marching band members, cleaned out our equipment storage area, and
fitted all the marching students for uniforms. At the very least, make sure to head to ChickFilA on
Monday and Classico on Wednesday (with your flyers!) to take part in their Restaurant Night
fundraisers. Huge thanks to all those who helped and looking forward to meeting more parents at
other events!
Marching Band families we had a great first 4 days of Marching Band Camp and accomplished more
in those 4 days that we usually get done in 2 weeks. The members of the band have been wonderful
in dealing with the heat, changing situations, and the changes to the program. Speaking of which, if
you haven't heard yet, our Friday night preview event is now going to be an indoor concert at 7:30pm
in the WHS Auditorium. In a more concertstyle setting, we will be presenting the music for our 2016
show, TIME. Please invite friends and family to enjoy our music! We will unveil our field show for the
first time on September 1st at 8pm in the WHS stadium with a "Friends and Family" show. Both
events are free and open to the public. This week we have 9am9pm rehearsals every day through
Friday. Don't forget that dinner break is now 4:306pm keep everybody drinking water! Make sure to
ask your students about the Kill Drill and Pizza fundraiser information sent home last week. Also, please remember that our August 25th rehearsal is 36pm and includes a performance for Meet the
Teacher Night.
Thanks for your continued support and looking forward to seeing everyone soon! Brian Frazier

IMPORTANT (NEW) NOTES FOR THIS WEEK
WHAT PERTAINS TO ME AND MY CHILD? We are going to try and identify stories as to which ensemble(s) they pertain to, and label them as such. We’ve also identified the “ALLIMB” designation if the story pertains to students in all ensembles (the entire department). Hopefully this will help keep tabs on stories that pertain to you and your student. Identifying Ensembles: ALLIMB = Any ensemble / MB = Marching Band / JZ = Jazz Band / IN = Indoor Guard & Percussion / OR = Orchestra & Honors Orchestra / CB = Concert Band / WE = Wind Ensemble / SYM = Symphonic Band

HOME PARTY FUNDRAISING PARTIES (ALLIMB)
Do you enjoy shopping in a home party environment? We have two parties coming up in September.
The ThirtyOne Bag party is on Sunday, September 18th at Beatrice Bordzol’s home.
ThirtyOne Gifts offers a selection of gifts and accessories that are stylish,
useful and affordable. Their product line includes monogrammed handbags
and scented candles to personalized stationery, and kitchen accessories.
The Premier Designs Jewelry Party is on Thursday, September 8th at Beth Graham’s house.
We’ve got your style—from classic wardrobe staples to the latest musthave
trends! Premier jewelry is designed to be high in fashion, rich in details and
easy on your budget. There’s a lot to love too—almost 500 pieces in all!
For both of these parties, the consultants are donating a portion of their profits back to the IMB. We
will also earn hostess rewards we can use at Quarters Auction and Bingo. If you would like to get a
book to place an order or would like to go to either party, contact Bonnie Konsen by Email:
[email protected] or Text 4439357407 to get more information about either of these great
fundraising opportunities.

USBANDS WESTMINSTER SILVER SHOWCASE (MB)
● Our local USBANDS Marching Band Competition (we call it our ‘Home Show’) is off to a great
start. We currently have 8 bands scheduled to compete
and our band will also perform in exhibition. This event is
one of our top fundraisers of the year. We are looking for
local businesses who want to show support for our
program and be seen by the hundreds of people who will
compete or be in attendance for the Home Show. Area
businesses and individuals are able to purchase an ad in
our Home Show program or sponsor an award trophy.
We are also looking for donations of cash or gift cards for
this event so we can stock the concession stand with
items that we can sell during the event. If you would like to know how your business can help,
please eMail David Pintzow ([email protected]), or Beth Graham
([email protected]) to see how you can help support this event or our band.
● SENIOR PROGRAM ADS are on sale now. If you have
a Senior Student in the Marching Band this year,
then you have an opportunity to place a
‘Congratulations’ ad in the program. Karen DePace
([email protected]) will be organizing the ads
and assisting with the program this year. Send her
an eMail and ask her how you can reserve space for
your student.
Volunteer Training Classes (ALLIMB) If you plan to volunteer for any music event during the next year, it is a requirement of CCPS that every adult participate in a Volunteer Training class. These classes are not difficult but require approximately an hour of your time. If you complete the training, then you are covered for the entire school year. We strongly recommend each parent take a look at the times below and try to come to one of these trainings. This is the same CCPS training that is given at other county schools and will cover you volunteering for most CCPS events. If you have any questions about volunteer training class, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Michele Saelens at [email protected] to get your questions answered.
● Monday, Aug. 15 8PM ● Wednesday, Aug 17 8:30PM ● Tuesday, Aug 23 8PM ● Thursday, Sept 1 8PM (Tentative) ● Thursday, October 6 8PM

THE BOOSTERS NEED YOU!!!!!
HELP WANTED! (ALLIMB) Our organization is strictly volunteerbased, but it does take a village so we
are constantly in need of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly.
And because students, and consequently their parents, graduate out, there
is always turnover in key positions.
Aug 15, 2016 WHS IMB Weekly Newsletter Page 6
Currently we have committee and chair positions available, either because of graduations or because
people have switched positions. Some key positions will be coming available in spring of 2017 as more
students graduate out. Some of these positions are yearround and ongoing; some only involve 'work'
a few times a year. For more details on what each position involves, please contact the current chair:
● Volunteer Coordinator: is a yearround position that is available NOW; contact Michele
Saelens at [email protected].
● Restaurant Night chair: is a yearround position but work is done primarily from home just 23
times a year (July/January/May), via phone or email, on your time; position becomes available
in January 2017; contact Kim Pintzow at [email protected].
● Food Chair: is a yearround position that becomes available in May 2017 but could be
shadowed throughout this school year; contact Kim Pintzow at [email protected].
● Fundraising Chair: is a yearround position that become available in May 2017 but could be
shadowed throughout this school year; contact Bonnie Konsen at [email protected].
● Uniform Committee: contact Beatrice Bordzol at [email protected].
● Car Wash Chair: position currently open; is a spring/summer only position; contact David
Pintzow at [email protected].
COMMUNICATING WITH THE BOOSTERS ORGANIZATION: (ALLIMB) We have recently been receiving some questions from rookie parents about how to set up or become
a part of a carpool. While this is not a responsibility of the Boosters organization, we like to consider
ourselves family and as such, we are here to help each other with our various needs. So I would like to
share ways for you to connect with fellow band parents as well as the Boosters organization.
As always, this information is NOT limited to marching families but it is for EVERYONE in the
instrumental music program.
● www.owlband.org: This is our official website and contains a wealth of information about all of the
music ensembles. Answers to many questions you may have should be able to
be found here, as well as contact information (under the Boosters link) for our
Boosters Executive Board members, Committee Chairs and Coordinators.
● Facebook:
Owl Band is the name of the official Boosters facebook page. I suggest finding
and 'liking' this page. It is a good source for information on what is happening with the music
program, upcoming events, pictures, etc. However, it is set up as an informational, not a
conversational page, meaning it is not the best place to post questions.
https://www.facebook.com/OwlBand104232342990572/
COMMUNICATING WITH FELLOW BAND PARENTS
● Facebook:
Band Families is a facebook group. Please note that this is NOT a Boosterssponsored group. It is a
closed group that was set up by a band mom. It was originally set up just for the band moms, but then
dads were invited and some of the students have become part of the group as well. Any member of
Aug 15, 2016 WHS IMB Weekly Newsletter Page 7
the group can add members, but the administrator must approve them. All members are able to post
in the group. Being a closed group, it means that anyone should be able to find the group and see who
is in it, but only members can see posts. So you should be able to search for the group and ask to join.
This group was designed to be a way for band families, past and present, to stay in contact with each
other, to ask for help with things like carpools, to share news, etc. This is your best option for
communicating with fellow band parents.
● Section Leaders:
All marching students should have contact information for their section leaders and fellow section
members.
ONGOING FUNDRAISING INFORMATION
DID YOU GET YOUR FURNACE HILLS COFFEE: (ALLIMB) Do you (like most people) enjoy your Coffee every morning? How
would you like to enjoy your cup of joe and help 2 organizations at
once? We have the perfect fundraiser for you! We’ve worked with
Furnace Hills Coffee Co. of Westminster and have created 3 unique
blends of coffee exclusively for the Instrumental Music Boosters:
Allegro (a medium blend), Sonoro (a delicious dark roast), and Halftime (a blend of dark & decaf).
Please click on this link for ordering: Furnace Hills Coffee or stop into the Furnace Hills Coffee store on main street to pick up a pound of java!
SPIRIT WEAR CAN NOW BE PURCHASED ONLINE: (ALLIMB)
Were you aware that the Owl Band spirit wear can now be purchased online at our virtual storefront
with Embroid Me? You can get things like tShirts, Draw string bags, long sleeve shirts, sweat pants,
hats and more! All embroidered with the Westminster Owls logo and some items allow for ensemble
customization as well (I got Kelsey a drawstring bag and it says Color Guard under the logo). A
complete list is on the right. Trust me, you are not going to want to go to football games in October
without a beanie or a sweatshirt. Visit often. You’ll look great and support the music programs at
WHS.

A few things to remember about Restaurant Night fundraisers:
● Unless otherwise noted, you MUST print out a flyer, take it with you and turn it in when
ordering so that our organization can receive the credit for your purchase.
● While we highly encourage you to share the flyers with your friends, family, neighbors etc, so
that we can maximize turnout...handing out flyers at the location (in the parking lot or in the
establishment itself) to other guests who just happen to be there is prohibited by the terms of
the fundraiser. The fundraiser can and will be shut down by management if this occurs.
● Proceeds from these fundraisers go to help the ENTIRE Instrumental Music Program so ALL
band and orchestra members and their families are encouraged to attend.

OWL BAND PHOTO ARCHIVE: (ALLIMB) Owlband Flickr archive has been updated with photos from the Spring Concert Week (Jazz Band,
Bands and Orchestras) and the End of Year Banquet. The best way to see all of the photos is to set up
your own FREE Flickr account, then let us know so we can list you as a Friend of the band. The Flickr
albums are set up so that only Friends and Family can see them.
If you have any questions or would like to get the current links to the albums that have been created,
please send an email to David Pintzow([email protected]) or Scott Campanella
IMB MEETING MINUTES (ALLIMB) Did you miss the monthly Instrumental Music Booster Meeting on July 21? All of our Booster Meeting
Minutes are available on the Owl Band website, under “Boosters>Meeting Minutes”. They are a great
way to keep up with news and information that relate to ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT MUSIC
PROGRAMS . Feel free to send us an eMail if you have a comment or suggestion on one of the topics
on the notes. While nothing can compare to being at the meeting and discussing the important topics
live with other booster members and the director(s), make sure your voice gets heard if you have an
opinion on something.
