What’s Going On In… OCTOBER 2018 Grade Four – Mrs. Rainka Bailey and Hannah Cub reporters Bailey and Hannah got to spend a fun and learning filled day in Mrs. Rainka’s class! The kids in Mrs. Rainka’s class are very active. In gym they are doing a paper fitness test! They have ten seconds to run from one end of the gym to the other. They are also practicing curl ups. Before recess, the grade fours go to their reading groups. They are very talented readers and quiet workers. They also did Daily Language which was spelling, handwriting and reading. Just looking at the class, you can tell they are working hard. Everyone was very smart in this class! They listen very well. They have a lot of amazing ideas and explain most of their answers. Grade fours are also really creative. The reporters then took a look at the class art. The students painted pretty beautiful paintings. They are great at listening too. In Math, they were doing 100 more 100 less and Reflex math. They are very fluent in their facts. In Science they are talking about the food chain and learning about how different creatures depend on each other. In Social Studies, they are learning about provinces and territories of Canada and doing a project about it on the computer. Mrs. Rainka’s class is great and the reporters really enjoyed spending time there! Top: The class is hard at work and very focused. Middle: A sample of some of the fall artwork that was made by the students. Bottom: A bulletin board showing some of the important things the grade fours are learning in Social Studies.

Getting to know Mr. Enns

Aowyn and Layla

Have you ever seen a bus driver who always smiles? If you guessed Kevin Enns, you are correct! Kevin Enns has been driving a school bus for one year and 3 months! His route is 40 minutes long. He really enjoys bus driving. In his spare time, he plays guitar and delivers water. He starts at 8:05 a.m. to pick up kids. One thing he wants the drivers of Neepawa to know is that every bus driver should watch out for cars. He said that one of the funniest stories on his bus was that all the kids on his bus sang all the way to Winnipeg and back. He has four kids named Hayley, Nathan, Zac and Josh who he cares about very much. Kevin lives in the country and enjoys the peace and quiet. If you see Kevin Enns driving his big yellow bus, don’t be afraid to give him a little wave!

When you are looking for your child’s classroom, don’t wander around the hall for the whole day. It is important that parents go to the office and ask Mrs. Ernest where their class is. The office is on the east side of the school. When you walk in, turn to your right and you will be welcomed with a smile! Here are some more friendly reminders. Lost and found is by the office. Bring indoor shoes along with appropriate clothing for the weather. If someone is picking your child up, please leave a note in their organizer or phone the school. If your child wants to go on the bus with one of their friends, please call Mrs. Ernest or Mrs. Bohn leave a note in their planner for a bus pass and please call the office if your child is away.

G u e s s t h e C u bChecking Out the Town Library

Alyx & Dezarae

What can be black and white and “read” all over? If you guessed books, you are right! Where else besides the school libraries can you find books-The Town of Neepawa Library! Reporters Alyx and Dezarae visited the town library and learned a lot from Debbie, the librarian. Debbie has worked at the library for three whole years! That’s a long time! For her job, she organizes the books, buys new books, repairs damaged ones and runs clubs and contests. Right now there are two clubs going on. They are story time on Friday mornings for little kids and a craft club. There are also contests for short stories and bookmarks. Debbie said that there are about 150 books signed out in a day. There are approximately 6000 books and 200 movies. Books can be signed out for a month and movies can be signed out for three days. Anyone can get a free library card but if you are under 18 years old, you need to have an adult sign your registration. Debbie loves to help people find books and information for projects and wants the library to be a safe place for people to study and learn. The library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Thursday it is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sundays it is closed. Remember to check out the town library next time you want to find an interesting book to read!

Hey there! Welcome to “Guess the Cub”. For this article, you’ll be trying to guess this cub. This cub is in grade three. This person is a girl and she is eight years old. Some things she likes to do are play tag with her friends at school and she absolutely loves the color pink. Her favorite food is Mac ‘n Cheese! She loves the cheesiness of the cheese and the warm soft pasta is great. She’s not a big fan of Justin Bieber’s music. In fact, she doesn’t just dislike his music, she’s afraid of him! This cub absolutely loves horses and her favorite sport is gymnastics. Last, but not least, she lives in Riding Mountain. Let’s see if you are able to guess who this cub is!
