We're in SD hosting a state park campground. I would particularly enjoy seeing Bob Horton again. Please say hello to anyone you know I know Regards to all, Kent (Hoover) ========================================================= September 23, 2009 Pat – please add Patty Bales (email = [email protected]) to the super lunch distribution list. She worked for Control Data in Hampton, VA (replaced me when I left there), and later transferred to MN to work at ADN and ARHOPS. Bruce C would likely remember her – I think. Anyway, I’d appreciate it if you’d include her on your list. See you in couple of days…. Sue Miller ========================================================= September 21, 2009 Hello, I received notification regarding the Super Lunch this coming Friday, I'm afraid I will be out of town and cannot attend however I would have liked to if I had known sooner. Pat - Hope I have your correct email address. Got your voicemail and plan to attend on Sept. 25. Thanks for calling!

Note my new email address - I retired from Medtronic on June 1, so old email address is inactive.

Thanks for keeping up updated on CDC'ers news and coordinating the Super Lunch again.

========================================================= September 19, 2009 I forwarded the superlunch invite this morning to most of my CDC contacts on LinkedIn. Based on the replies already, I think we’re going to get some takers. If each one of them forwards it on to just one other person, we could have quite a turnout. I know 10% that say they will attend won’t, but I’m hoping there will be a good crowd. See you next week!   Sidm (Sue Miller)   Susan I. I was the Program Manager for a client named Marsh McClennan which was on the 95th floor of Tower 1( where the first plane went in). I had been there seven times. I became close friends with two of the Vice Presidents and acquaintances with 5 others. They had been to my lake home in MN and I had been to their homes on Long Island. When the plane went in 5 of them had gathered in Joe Sisolack's office for a meeting. They closed the door and were texting their wives about their status as they wetted papers making paper mache to jam into the crack on the bottom of the door to keep the smoke out. They were pondering how best

to help the burn victims when the sprinkler system put out the fire. The last text Greg Reda sent to his wife was "the fire is here - love yous". They could see that Tower 2 had gone down, Joe's office was in the Southeast corner of Tower 1 closest to Tower 2, they could also see the the Brooklyn Bridge, the East River, the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty.. Tower 1 went down 30 seconds after Greg's last text message to his wife. All 5 perished. They found Joe's remains. Greg, Amanda, Andy and Bill were not found. I still get very sad thinking about that day. Bruce (Carlston) ========================================================= September 11, 2009 (Note: PRJ has not checked out the website)

Stumbled upon this web site. Did any of you know it existed?

Some of you are not on the list. There were a lot of names that brought back some old memories.

Jerry Peterson ========================================================= September 6, 2009 Hey Patrick, Got your email with the Superlunch reminder. Found it in my gmail Spam folder. Evidently, google thinks your emails are spam. Don't know why. Most come through, but occasionally one gets put in the Spam folder. That is why I periodically check it. And I was expecting your Superlunch reminder to show up soon. Anyways. We leave here on September 22 for Minnesota. Plan is to get into Hennepin County's Baker Park Campground the afternoon of Sept 24th. Plan to be at the Superlunch on the 25th. Will talk to you then. Hope that your summer has gone well for you and Patty. Ours has gone by fast and I have not gotten all my "to-do" list items complete. O Well, I have this winter and next year. See you soon. September 4, 2009 Hey Pat Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year. Best wishes to all the guys. Arnie (Winans) ========================================================= September 4, 2009 Hi, I'm Eric Stechmann. I don't know if you have me in your list so please add me: [email protected] CDC history: I worked at Arden Hills in the Design Automation Department from 1974 to 1984. I worked with Denny Johnson, Sue Holewa, Dan Desmonds, Rod Rehor, among others. (I expect more names will occur to me just after I send this.) After my CDC days, I worked for Zycad, Mentor Graphics, Provis, Advanced Respiratory, Sensonix, and am currently an embedded systems programmer for the Safety Products Division of Banner Engineering. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the CDC Luncheon, as I'll be out of town. But I'll certainly try for the next one. Thanks. Eric (Stechmann) ========================================================= August 26, 2009 / September 4, 2009 Hi Pat - got your email address from both Rod Rehor and Dan Desmonds. Hi Pat ! I can't wait....please tell everyone to take along any mementos they have....I just ran across a windshield scraper (910 System) and towels...We will need to ask the folks at Fuddruckers for a few extra tables to place this stuff....I know that Steve Cook has every ARHOPS management and employee structure chain dating way, way back in a file folder...... I look forward to seeing you folks! I can't believe that we have been so busy that we couldn't get together with our better halves for lunch....ok..and Dennis too...

September 3, 2009 Pat, I will be on vacation so will not be attending. Chris and I will be fishing on Lake Vermillion trying to get another big Musky. Sorry to miss the luncheon, I really enjoy seeing everyone and my wife enjoyed it last year. Good times. Bummer! Say Hi to everyone. Ken and Chris Zaffran - - - - - - - - - Pat, Sorry I will not be able to attend this year. Even though I had plenty of notice, I forgot about the lunch and set-up a fishing trip. I will do better next time as I will block out next year’s date on my computer calendar ahead of time. That computer runs my life, so there will be no more excuses. I know you will keep me posted. Have a great time at the lunch. Ken Zaffran ========================================================= August 31, 2009 Hi Pat Thanks for the info. I'm having a great time in Norway. St. Paul, Minnesota August 31, 2009 Dear Patrick, I’m too senile to remember whether or not I have already told you, but I have correspondence information for Sue Winston, the woman with whom I used to ride to work. I thought that you might like it for your Superlunch notice. She used to work in Peripheral Engineering. She is now working at General Mills and must have sold her soul because she is now a supervisor. Most sincerely, Clemmer The information is:

The oldest is back in Iraq as commander of a multi-force unit overseeing intelligence for Troy Task Force, to counter IED's. Another son is AF JAG, and just completed a doctoral thesis on Sovereignty in Cyberspace as groundwork for our national security debate. Rosemary Franzese ========================================================= July 30, 2009 Hi Pat, I was surprised to see you on linkedin - I thought you had left the job market long ago. I do not use linkedin much either but find it is a good way to find people I used to work with at Schlumber/Credence. Will there be something coming out on the "lunch"? I think you have my home email - [email protected]. One of these years we'll get back to Minn - I've kind of lost touch since my folks passed on. ========================================================= July 2009 Hi Pat, Many thanks for all your trouble. It's much appreciated. We are looking at the frightful cost of flights and haven't decided yet whether or not to come to Minnesota this year. My elder granddaughter, who is 27, is getting married towards the end of September and we would like to attend if we can. I'll keep you posted. July 14, 2009

I hadn't heard from you for quite awhile and received the news about another CDC'r passing. Its always sad but part of life. I am trying to live every day to its fullest --- somedays I do better than others :-)

I trust that everything is going well with you. Are you still living here in Minneapolis area?

I will make every effort to attend the diagnostic luncheon this year --- really I will.

I continue to work and have just changed jobs to a new company. I now work for Pearson VUE in Bloomington. Same line of work (QA analyst) and my boss at the new company was also my boss from my previous company -- it always pays to do a good job wherever you're at. I have worked for 2 small (startup) companies and had my fill of that (but I've also learned to never say never). It's really good to get back into working at a large company like Pearson.

I'd like to work full-time until I'm 70 and the QA work I believe is something that would fit well with me. I really really enjoy what I am doing. At 70 I'd like to work 3 days/wk.

Any chance you are ever in the Bloomington area so we could have lunch?

Denny (Nesseth)

========================================================= July 2009 Ron Bardal has retired. Please contact Mike Larsen regarding Medtronic business. ========================================================= June 2009 Hey back, You bet I miss Minnesota, NOT. We have been having some warm weather, though yesterday's 87 or so was the average. Today may be warmer than average at 90+. We have been having adequate rainfall, so the lawns look the best since we moved here 8 years ago. The mornings are usually cooler, so we have to walk around 7:00 AM then eat breakfast. Down here the high for the day is usually around 4:30 PM. A lot later than in Minnesota.

Page 11: Notes from The Gang” (2009) 09/29/09 · Notes from The Gang” (2009) 09/29/09 This file contains notes and e-mails, which several people have sent to me over the last year. =====

We head to Northeast Ohio for my 50th High School class reunion on June 24th. Will spend two weeks there in our motorhome, and then come home. Planning a trip to Missouri in August. And then our trip to Minnesota in September for CDC Lunch. Budget was looking good for the travel until the past two weeks with gas prices getting up over $2.50/gal. Stopped at cheapest gas in town for the car at Walmart at 1:30PM today. Price was $2.429, but I saw some of the numbers on the overhead signs down. We then went in to buy groceries. When we came out the prices had changed to $2.549. Boy, that is cutting it close. I have a full tank of gas in the motorhome that I bought 4 weeks ago when getting the rig serviced. I decided then to play the futures game and buy then rather than wait for it to maybe come down. I paid $2.219. Hope your summer is going well, even if a little cool. Our gladiolas are blooming here, as well as a number of Crape Myrtle trees. Be good. Bob (Horton) ========================================================= March 2009 Hi Pat, 28th is the big day. Our plans are pretty complete with only a couple of loose ends to tie up. We have discovered that it's worth getting multiple quotes for everything. For example, a wedding cake provided by the place where the reception is held: $444. The same cake essentially from a bakery: $184. We have found similar discrepancies in nearly everything. Aside from that things are going well. Barry Blair will be my best man. He was CDC way back in the late '60's and you may not know him. Originally from Melbourne but now living in Hong Kong. Cheers, Tony PS: Hey from Joanna! = = = = = = = = Hello All, Most of you asked for photos of the wedding and I am attaching a collage that cuts the size of the photos from about 20MB to about 1MB. Somebody was smiling at us on the day because it intermittently poured down and was sunny and bright. Fortunately, at the important times it was perfect and the wedding and reception couldn't have run more smoothly.

Best wishes, Tony and Joanna ========================================================= Hi Pat, Thanks for the card and e-mail! Been home since Tuesday 03/03/09. Used up Ed Urness and Bob Devoy with Dr. appointments and some errands so was glad to get the OK to drive last Tuesday. (4+ weeks after) Last week had so many planned and unplanned Dr. visits that was about all that could be done. Did get taken off several meds that I hated and also stopped temp. checking of blood sugar ( draw blood from finger 2x a day). So some good came of it all. Should be a less intense week coming up one Dr. visit and three Cardiac therapy sessions is all right now. May even try to hit old farts day at the Auto Show. Still on activity restrictions but feel pretty good most of the time and hope to be getting better each week. Byron (Hartwick) ========================================================= We are leaving for Minnesota on April 18th. It is already starting to get hot here, it was 90 the other day. We have not yet turned on the A/C though. I am finally one Social Security, I turned 62 a couple days ago. I get my first check the second Wednesday in May. So now I will get my VA pension on the first of the month and SS in the middle of the month. The monthly payments are about the same, so it's a lot like having a job without the go to work part. Bruce Carlston ========================================================= February 2009 Hi Pat Have a contract on our Colorado house. We close on 4/15/2009 if all goes well. We are flying back to Minneapolis today to try and find a new home north of Minneapolis. Guess we need to have a warm jacket, boots and gloves. Subject: ICEM Lunch 2007 - Picture Everybody - we had a good turnout on Friday last week, ~40 people came and we had a great time. Thanks to Kirk and Clientek for hosting the event and providing the food and beverage - it was a very nice place to meet. Also thanks to Sueng Park who took some pictures. I've attached a group shot at reduced resolution. If you are interested in a full resolution copy (enough to print a 12x16 picture) you can contact Sueng directly at [email protected] I've also attached an updated email address document - I received a few more since the last time I sent it out. Thanks again - hope to see you all next year! --Mark (Walker) ---------------------------- Just a reminder that the lunch is next week on Friday. Remember the new location this year: Clientek - St. Anthony Main - 212 Second Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414 Link to Map I've attached the address document - check the last column to see who is planning to attend and bug those that haven't replied yet to make sure they come! For anyone that's interested, stay for the afternoon and we'll have a group walk across the bridge to the Twins game vs. Chicago at 7:00 1. Please review this attached list of names and addresses, and let us know if you know of any others that should be included, or if you know of any updated email addresses. We're open to going all the way back to 1980, so please send any contacts you have that worked with ICEM during these past 20+ years. 2. Please RSVP to this mail and let us know if you plan to come - we'll need at least a rough count. We look forward to seeing all of you on September 21st - put it on your calendars now! I'll be sending a reminder and updated info between now and then. Thanks, --Mark (Walker) ========================================================= October 14, 2008 Pat Thanks. And here I thought my mind was totally fried… J How are you doing Pat. I was hoping to come to the super lunch this year, but business more or less has consumed me the last 2-3 months. Taking your retirement monies and mortgaging your house to start a business when you are over 60 is not for the faint of heart. But it certainly keeps the juices flowing. Hope you are well. Lyle (Borton) ========================================================= October 11, 2008 Pat: Thank you for all your work. I read all the messages. It's good to read about what people are doing and to know they are still on looking at the green side of the grass. I will make sure, I send in a note next year. While I recognize the person, the names are missing. I would sure like to make it for a lunch and be able to match the names with the faces.

Take care and thank you again for all your good work. Bob (Hardy). ========================================================= October 8, 2008 Hi Pat, Enjoyed looking at the 2008 Super lunch photos and reading all of the notes. Would you send me the updated directory database in the Excel format. Also, who has the high resolution photo of the CDC Collage? I would like a copy of that sent to me, or a link to it so I can download. The one on the Super Lunch web sight is very low resolution, and thus I can't read the headlines when I zoom in. The original digital photo image should be higher resolution so I can zoom in and read the headlines. Also of interest, Ray Jorgenson said that he is getting married (already has?) to a Judy Hoover who lives in Golden Valley. Mary Ann worked with Judy Hoover back in my girls' days in Camp Fire girls group. What's the chance of that? Thanks for all your efforts pulling everyone together every year. Bob (Horton) ========================================================= October 8, 2008 Hi Pat, Sorry for the no-show. I may be one of the last ones working from the old group and WORK got in the way. I work for an out-sourcing company in Eagan and they are moving our datacenter to Phoenix, shutting down the one where I work. As part of the shutting down, we are moving all our current customers being served in the Eagan datacenter to Phoenix and we were busy with that customer move on the Friday of the lunch. As an FYI, when our datacenter shuts down, no later than 1/31/09, I assume I will be laid off. Not bad actually, since I turn 65 next month. Not sure what I will do after that, but I need to stay busy, so will probably look for some work, do some travel, some house re-modeling, etc. It's great that you are keeping this Super Lunch get-together going. I know it takes time. Hopefully, it is a "labor of love" and not another one of those things "I have to do".

Again, sorry for not coming. I appreciate all your EMail updates and other things you do in this regard! Tom Krocak ========================================================= October 8, 2008 Hopefully I will be able to make the one next year. I enjoyed the pictures from this years lunch but it would have been nice to include names with the pictures. The only guy I recognized for sure is you. Frank (Jones) ========================================================= October 8, 2008 Patrick, I was with CDC EMSD from '74 to '90. I was sent your Super Lunch email and would appreciate it if you would send me the CDC database in Excel format. Thanks, Jerry G. Regards, Terry McDougall ========================================================= October 3, 2008 Thank you, Pat, I'm sorry to say that I had not gotten around to expressing my condolences to Dona, though I intended to after receiving her address. We just don't know when we put off things we think we should do! My perception is that Dona and Al were very close in their life together. I HOPE they are

together again in death. Thanks again for putting the lunch together. I saw Paul Durette at Loews tow days ago. He told me he had forgotten about it. Too bad, it would have been good to have him there. Regards, ....Kent (Hoover) ========================================================= September 26, 2008 Pat - I intended to attend the Super Lunch for years, but never followed through until this year. Bruce Larsen and I made a pact to go this year when we ran into each other back in February, and that was enough of a commitment that I finally followed through. I want to thank you for the work you put into it, every year. There were good people at CDC and it's right to stay in touch with them. The Super Lunch is a good thing, and you deserve the credit. Thanks, Steve Hattenberger =========================================================

Patrick, November 2008

It was great to hear from you. My address is:

Billy Pettit

3747 Oak Brook Court Pleasanton, California 94588

You can give this address to anyone with CDC material. I will return it after scanning, if they wish. If not, I'll donate it in their name to the Museum. My offer stands to pay all postage involved.

Are you familiar with the controlfreaks list? If not, I think you might find it fun; it's about CDC software and they have frequent discussions down to the diagnostic level. Just went through a long discussion of inter-PPU communication and display character generation. Have a look at: http://www.controlfreaks.org/mailman/listinfo/controlfreaks

If you want, I can forward you a couple of recent mailings so you can have a look at the contents.

========================================================= October 2008 Unfortunately the old CDC crew is getting older! Even I am not so young any more. Sorry for not making the Super Lunch. George (Matkovitz) PS. Did you go to the CDC meeting? I completely forgotten about it! Would you know if Curt Alexander or Bill Keats were there? ========================================================= October 2008 My thanks to all the people who helped identify the pictures from the 2008 Super Lunch. Am wondering if you knew what you were getting into when you set up this email list. But it is what it is. Rest assured that there must be a couple of thousand people who welcome your messages. Best regards, Rich Otto ========================================================= October 2008 Hi Pat, yeah, I get these "summary" updates annually, along with an invite to see the whole detail if one wants to follow up. I've never followed up and gotten the whole report, but this year I certainly will. I've a friend in California who's retirement income was reduced significantly when the US Go'vt insurance took over his company's defaulted plan, and this was long before our current situation even began. Two possible points... one, they apparently don't insure at 100% and secondly, the fund is limited in total assets available. If the Ceridian fund had a bunch of Petters holdings for example, like a number of hedge funds did, could be a problem. Also, there may just be a big bunch of claims on those federal insurance assets if this thing goes on a while, which is seemingly pretty likely. Oh well, I ain't gonna' do much about it, so why worry? Thanks, for the input, Dave (States) Vic, do you know anyone who might be able (or have enough interest) to get a handle on what this current financial fiasco has done to the Ceridian retirement fund? All my old contacts that were in a position to track it are now "grounded" so to speak. ========================================================= October 2008 Pat: Thank you for all your work. Bob Hardy. ========================================================= October 2008 Pat,

Most (if not all) of these folks worked for EMSD (later Siemens Power Systems Control). I recognize many of the names from working at the old CPI/EMSD facility at Hwy 55/494, and then in Brooklyn Park at Siemens. Dave (Yunker) ========================================================= October 2008
