The first of seven San Diego premieres. The chemistry of collaboration of an extremely talented group of actors and theatre artists. BfCKY'S NfW CAP. About a year ago as I read BfCKY for the first time, it immediately jumped off the page at me. I laughed out loud at the premise, and at the fresh and inventive way Steven Dietz had fashioned to tell his story. I knew right away that I wanted to bring it to life at North Coast Rep. As I learned the story of how the play had been originally commissioned as a birthday gift of love from Charles Staadecker to his wife Benita, I became engaged with the idea of the play in a nE?wway. Over a dozen productions of this heartfelt, funny, and thought provoking play had come to touch alJd entertain people across the country because of one couples belief in the power of live theatre to make an impact. At its best, the theatre is an expression of love and humanity in intimate and personal terms. Bravo to the Staadeckers for understanding this and acting upon it. 111 creating this production, we have laughed a lot. We have also had probing discussions about the nature of love, relationships, choice, and"responsibility. We have had a joyous and fulfilling ride. We hop'e yours will be the same. About a year ago as I read BfCKY for the first time, it immediately jumped offthe page at me. I laughed out loud at the premise, and at the fresh and inventiveway Steven Dietz had fashioned to tell his story. I knew right away that I wantedto bring it to life at North Coast Rep.

As I learned the story of how the play had been originally commissioned asa birthday gift of love from Charles Staadecker to his wife Benita, I becameengaged with the idea of the play in a nE?wway. Over a dozen productionsof this heartfelt, funny, and thought provoking play had come to touch alJdentertain people across the country because of one couples belief in the powerof live theatre to make an impact. Steven Dietz (Playwright) Steven Dietz's thirty-plus plays have beenseen at over one hundred regional theatres in the United States, aswell as Off-Broadway. International productions have been seenin England, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Sweden, Austria,Russia, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Greece, Argentina, Peru, Korea,Singapore and South Africa. Mr. Dietz received the KennedyCenter Fund for New American Plays Award for his plays FICTION(produced Off-Broadway by the Roundabout Theatre Company), andSTILL LIFE WITH IRIS; the 2007 Edgar® Award for Best Mystery

Play for SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE; the PEN USA WestAward in Drama for LONELY PLANET; and the 1995 Yomuiri Shimbun Award

(the Japanese "Tony") for his adaptation of Shusaku Endo's novel SILENCE. John Finkbiner (Scenic Artist) John has been a member of the NCR staff for nearly twoyears. His favorite shows are HALPERN AND JOHNSON, SHIPWRECKED!, THEDRESSER and JACQUES BREL. John received his BA degree at UCLA's School ofTheater, Film and Television in 1991. John is also an accomplished singer/songwriter andperforms with his band, The Stereotypes.
