Primary Ethics teacher workshop scheduled over 2 days on March 22 and 29. Please register now if you are interested. Could you be an ethics teacher at Hamilton South Public School? Ethics at Hamilton South Public School has seen an increase in demand, and unfortunately there is currently a wait-list to enrol - particularly for Kindergarten. In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure. We are looking for additional Ethics Teachers NOW to be able to continue providing Primary Ethics classes to meet the demand. If you are interested in finding our more information on becoming an Ethics Teacher, or about the Ethics at the school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au, or contact Grant Donnelly, on 0437697802 or at [email protected] Swimming Carnival The annual Hamilton South Public School Swimming Carnival was held last Wednesday at the Lambton Swimming Pool in ideal conditions. All students who attended had a great time and should be congratulated for their participation and excellent behaviour. Many of the races were close and cheering from the students created an electric atmosphere throughout the day. Unfortunately, Mrs Estens didn’t have time to perform a triple somersault off the 10m tower so we will have to wait until next year. Ribbons for race placegetters (based on fastest times) will be handed out today. Age champions and the winning house team will be announced at the first whole school assembly. Students found out last week if they had made the H.S.P.S. Swimming Team that will be competing at the upcoming Newcastle Zone Swimming Carnival. This event has been scheduled for Wednesday 19 February. All permission notes (paper and online) should now be completed and returned for this event. I would personally like to thank all staff and parent helpers who assisted with the running of the carnival. It really does make the task at hand much easier and a successful event for our students.

Stage 3 Sport Thankfully the weather came through for us on Friday and Stage 3 were able to commence the sport program that is run by Newcastle University students for four weeks instead of the usual Stage sport. The students get to experience many different skills and games over the four week period. There were plenty of smiles and fun had by all students.

Newcastle City Zone PSSA Tennis Trials Congratulations to Madison and Ben from Year 6. Both students have made it through to the Hunter PSSA Tennis Trials on Friday 28 February, 2020. Last Friday 14 February, 2020 Madison and Ben competed in the Newcastle City Zone PSSA Tennis Trials. Madison had a fantastic day placing second overall out of six trialling students. Ben had some lengthy matches, resulting in two tie breakers. He placed equal third out of fifteen students. Well done Madison and Ben and good luck at the Hunter Trials in two weeks’ time.

Concert Band: This week the Concert Band will be rehearsing on Wednesday morning - February 19, at the HSPS Welcome breakfast. We will be throwing open the doors and inviting our wonderful HSPS community inside to listen to our wonderful band students in their first “casual” performance of 2020. Don't forget that rehearsal starts at 8:00am. Please be at the school hall by 7:50am to set up your chair, instrument and music stand. We will be performing from 8:00 to approximately 8:30am. Students are free to mingle at the event before and after the performance time. Don't forget to collect your instrument from the hall after school on Thursdays. Instruments must be placed in the storeroom if you cannot transport them home. There will be NO Thursday morning rehearsal this week due to the Welcome Breakfast performance.

Training Band: Training Band students continued lessons with their tutors last week. Students need to bring their instrument and Accent on Achievement Band book to their lessons. Most books are currently out of stock at Musos Corner and should be back in stock in the coming weeks. We keep a number of copies at school that students can use, however, these copies belong to the school and cannot go home with students. Training Band students will have their first full Training band rehearsal in Week 5 (Wednesday February 26) at 8:00am in the school hall. Please note this has been pushed back 1 week due to the schools Welcome Breakfast.

Hire Instruments: Just a reminder that Hire fees ARE NOT DUE until you receive your Term 1 invoice. Invoices will be sent in Week 5 of Term 1. Payment options will be outlined on the Term 1 invoice. Please return your signed paperwork ASAP to Mrs Bell. RockCon: EOIs were handed out to those students who expressed an interest in being part of our RockCon program this year. Please note that RockCon will be held on Tuesday mornings from 8:00am in the school hall. More information will be coming home shortly. Choir: Our HSPS Choir Program is open to students in Year 2-6 ONLY. The HSPS Choir will be capped at 60 participants per term in 2020. There are still a few spaces left so make sure you return your note ASAP to Mrs Bell. Spare notes are available at the school office. Choir invoices will be sent home in Week 5, Term 1.
