It’s here. You can almost smell it in the air; the fresh daisy headbands, cro-cheted dresses, denim shorts and cowboy boots. Spring has arrived, and in just enough time for us to jet over to Cali for some pre-summer loving!

Coachella is the festival of all festivals if you want guaranteed sun, beaut fashion and heck there’s even music!

Ok perhaps that was a litle mean, but Coachella isn’t for you hardcore music fans, it’s more… well, more of an overall festival experience… there’s a beauty bar because

well, who doesn’t need a good blow dry mid fest? With pie eating contests, Ping pong, dodge ball and even massages on offer, Coachella is known for doing it all with a wide variation of music Coachella attracts people from all walks of the earth, but that’s enough boring factual talk; lets talk fashion!

When I think festival fash-ion, I think coachellafest, it’s not your average ‘cov-ered in mud with only one wel-lie left on’ kind of festival. Its white lace and tassels, vintage tan leather boots and oversized flower head bands, it’s drink-ing Kopparberg with the sun on your delicately paint-ed cheeks, wearing as many friendship bracelets and an-klets as you can find and the most complementing clashing prints this side of Africa has ever seen!

From Bastille and Bombay Bi-cycle Club to Calvin Harris and Chvrches, Coachella has it all. Want to take the drunk girl you just met on a romantic date then how about City and Colour or Daughter, or may-be you fancy more of a midnight rave then surely Disclosure will take your fancy. Who ever you are, what ever you like, coachella will definitely entice you somehow!

So get a wiggle on and buy your tickets be-cause they’re selling out fast!

The Great Escape(Brighton)

One of the earli-er festivals this season, The Great Escape in Brighton runs from the 8th - 10th of May. And with prices start-ing from just £54 for a three day ticket, this is an incredibly cheap gig. With names such as Example, Ella Eyre and Wild-beasts it really does seem too good to be true! There’s also plenty to see and do in Brighton, such as the Lanes shopping, the pier and the lovely (but cold) pebble beach.

Parklife(Manchester)

Manchester’s favour-ite festival is back and promises to be even bigger and bet-ter, with the best in the business showing up for the occasion. Having upgraded from Platt Fields park, the festival this year will be enter-taining Manchester’s huge student popula-tion from the leg-endary Heaton Park. The weekend of 7th – 8th of June features a top drawer line up with acts like Snoop Dogg, Foals, Bas-tille and Rudimen-tal.

Wireless Festival(London/Birmingham)

Cost: £210 Date: 4th – 6th JulySo, this one will set you back a few bob, but Wireless really is one of the giants of the festi-val scene. Back for its 9th year, Wire-less will take place both at Finsbury Park in London and Perry Park in Bir-mingham. We’re not going to lie, the names on this list are HUGE. If you go you can expect to catch Drake, Bru-no Mars, Pharrell, Kayne West and more. Phew.

Beautiful Days(Devon)

Cost: £130 Date: 15th – 17th AugustSet up in 2003 by the Levellers,Beau-tiful Days prides itself on having no sponsorship or advertising and a very chilled out vibe. This year it’s headlined by Ste-ve Earl and the Dukes,Seasick Ste-ve and The Level-lers themselves and promises to be a laid back weekend of great music.

Oktoberfest(Munich)

Cost: £100 Date: 21st September- 5th OctoberLast but not least it’s the world-famed Oktoberfest in Mu-nich,Germany,now in its 181st year. While you will have to shell out for a flight to Germany for this one, the festival itself is free, the oldest in the world and totally worth it, proven by the fact more than 16 million people visit each year.Oh, did we mention it’s a beer festival?

The Forget-me-nots! Festivals you’d simply be crazy to miss this summer!

LoveBox(London)

Cost: £80 Date: 18th – 19th JulyAnother big festi-val held in London (they get all the luck), this time in Victoria Park. LoveBox has a great line up this year including Chase and Status, MIA and An-nie Mac.If you don’t feel like splash-ing out too much you can always just come for one day.

Lamer Tree Festival (Dorset)

Cost: £220 Date: 16th – 20th JulyBilled as the “happi-est, friendliest and quirkiest” festival in the land, you’ll find Tom Jones, Frank Turner and Tom Odell at this fantastic festival in Dor-set. Not only is it great fun, it’s like a whole mini holiday in itself as you can sign up for up to five days of festi-val madness. Yep you heard us right, FIVE DAYS.

Shambala(Northampton)

Cost: £135 Date: 21st- 24th AugustIf you’re looking for something a little bit different from your festival ex-perience, then it’s well worth check-ing out Shambala in Northampton. The whole thing is or-ganised without any paid advertisements, using only word of mouth and social networking sites and you can even get in-volved.They’ve got a whole range of events going on as well as the music too, from brain food and art installations to wellbeing.

Glastonbury’s hall of fame bin! We’re pleased to report that a bin packed with Glaston-bury memorabilia has travelled from Wor-thy Farm to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Ohio, where it will fea-ture in the new Common Ground: The Music Fes-tival Experience exhi-bition, which opens on Friday, April 25, 2014.

Will we see the World Cup? Should England’s football team qualify from the group stag-es to the knock out rounds of this summer’s World Cup in Bra-zil, their match in the Last 16 is scheduled to either take place at 9pm UK time on the Saturday of Glastonbury (if they finish second in their group) or 9pm UK time on the Sunday of Glaston-bury (if they win their group).

In previous years, we have endeavoured to show England’s matches on big screens where pos-sible (other nations’ matches have not been shown). However, with the potential England match-es clashing with the headline sets at this year’s Festival, the decision has been made that - should England qualify from their group - their last 16 match will not be shown at Glastonbury 2014.

As England’s final group game takes place at 5pm UK time on Tuesday, June 24th (the evening before Glastonbury 2014 begins), it won’t be known until then wheth-er or not England will actually play a match during the Festival. But, as we are already being asked about our plans, we wanted to let everyone know well in advance that the decision has been made not to screen the potential match.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to wish Roy Hodgson’s side all the best in Brazil. And we very much hope that we’ll all be able to watch England playing a Quarter Final match on the 4th or 5th of July.

GlastoNews

Kasabian on their first G l a s -t o n b u r y “We first played Glas-tonbury in 2004 when we were first on the Other Stage on the Friday. We did a gig at Hammersmith Apollo the night before, playing before Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and we had a minibus waiting to take us down. We all jumped in and everyone was going: ‘We can’t do any gear, can we?’, and everyone was say-ing, ‘No, we’ll save it, we’ll save it,’ and then suddenly, an hour in, it’s like, ‘Oh, go on then’, bang, suitcase open, and everyone is fill-ing their boots and before you know it you’re watching Trisha at 10.30am, going: ‘Fucking hell, I’m going to Glastonbury in a minute.’ “Because you’re first on, you think no one’s go-ing to be there, so it’s like: ‘Well, what would Keef [Richards] do?’ ‘Yeah, car-ry on!’ And then you get there, and you open the cur-tain and it’s … full. That was the first indication we’d really had that we were con-necting with people, so that will always remain one of my favourite gigs of all time. “Were we nervous? I was just watching the clock, going: ‘Come on, just fuck-ing finish.’ I was absolutelyd y i n g ! ”

how to do DENIMTHE DO’S AND DONT’S OF DENIM SHORTS

Don’t… Wear white shorts without a tanWhite shorts on pale legs make for a pasty nightmare. With an arsenal of fake tans on the market there really is no excuse.

Don’t… Shorten your legs with bootsUnlessed blessed with lithe mod-el limbs that make any boot length look fabulous with denim shorts. Us mere mortals should be wary of cutting off legs with booties. Flat pumps and sandals are often best for leg-lengthening.

Do… Pair with a modest topIf you’re going skimpy on the bot-tom half, a modest top is a good bet. Rolled up shirts make for particularly cool summer compan-ions.

Do… Keep your shorts for daytimeNo matter how much you jazz up a pair of denim hot pants they nev-er translate into a chic evening look. Keep them for the beach.

Don’t… Leave your pockets hangingWe should all know better than to leave fabric pockets flapping about. There’s something a bit unsavoury about having shorts so short the pockets stick out.

Don’t… Over distress your denimA rip here and a bit of fraying there, yes; but don’t massacre your denim. No one wants to look like your shorts have been at-tacked by a shredder.

Do… Pair with a classic trainerDenim shorts and Converse make for a classic American cool vibe. Clichéd maybe, but it works every time.

Don’t… Show some cheekNo matter how perky one’s bum is it’s fair to say the world won’t appreciate you showing your cheeks off.

Bored with skinny jeans? This is an edgy alternative. The cropped length and dark color makes this pair impeccably stylish and on-trend, especially when worn with booties or high heels.Fashion Click blogger Zoe S (right). goes for extra cool points by leaving one of the straps unbuckled.

The midriff baring top is an-other trend of yesteryear that has recently resurfaced. In theory, wearing one with overalls should seem retro, but some-how it looks totally fresh. Fashion Click blogger Faith P.’s look (left) is in-season with cool wedges, a white lacy blouse, and, of course, her matching floral hairpiece.

reading festival Reading is one of the more rockier festivals on the circuit, mostly because of its progressive rock, blues and heavy metal roots in the 1970s. There are 8 stages at the festival, with most of the big names on the Main Stage and the NME/Radio 1 Stage and cooler, up and coming bands on other stages like BBC Introducing Stage. There is also now an electronic side to the line up, with a Dance Stage providing a bill of hot DJs and some of the bigger dance acts also appearing on the main stages.

For most people, Reading is about one thing only: music. Unlike other festivals, there is no spiritual journey to go on here, there are no arts tents and the setting won’t take your breath away. At Reading it’s all about the bands. At a festival like this you tend to find several types of revellers:

HIGHLY ORGANISED READING FESTIVAL FAN: often seen with a print out of a personal programme they have compiled themselves that takes into account the distance between stages and the exact times at which it will be best to travel to a certain stage to get themselves in the right position for a certain band. If you want to take this approach, you will need lashings of energy and some sharp elbows as the crush between stages at Reading when people are trying to get from one big name band to another can be too much for even the most ardent fan.

SINGLE STAGE READING FESTIVAL FAN: has normal-ly decided in advance which stage is for them – is perhaps a long term Reading fan and has had the best ‘hands in the air’ moments at a particular stage, maybe the Festival Republic Stage or the Lock Up Stage. If this is you then research is required in advance to make sure you know which stage you want to set up camp at and exactly which spot in the audi-ence will provide you with maximum enjoyment of said stage.

CASUAL READING FESTIVAL FAN: may possibly have a wristband for the hospitality area, certain-ly doesn’t consult a festival programme during the duration of the event. This type of fan tends to wander from stage to stage, depending on the weather, which way the crowds go, where the beer queues are the shortest and whether they can be bothered to move from a comfortable spot. If this is you then all you really need to do is equip yourself with beer mon-ey, waterproof, sun cream and a few similarly minded mates and you can drift around to your heart’s con-tent.

IN ALL CASES - BRING WELLIES.

Who Are You?

diy flower headbandsKeeping It Real

1. Cut your flowers so the stems are 1 1/2 inches long.

3. Place one of your center flowers on your wire loop and use the floral tape to attach the stem to the wire.

Supplies Needed: Floral

tape, floral wire, fresh

flowers, and scissors.

2. Measure the circumference of your head and cut your wire twice the length needed. Create your wire loop to the size of your head and use the extra length to wrap around the loop again for stability.

4. Place another flower behind your first flower and tape that stem to the wire as well. Continue this process un-til you have that side completed. Repeat the process for the other side by placing a flower next to your center flower (the heads of the flowers should be facing each other) and working your way down that side of the wire. Cover the exposed wire in the back with the floral tape, and you’re done!

Whether they’re real or fake, floral head bands are the perfect accessory for a summer festival! Come rain or shine they’re perfect for a quick and easy look that will garentee to throw a few good looks your way! Check out our tutorials here but also, dont forget to come along to our tent and any uk festival to make your own!

Using real flowers creates

a very beautiful but short

living headband, great for

a summer bbqs, weddings or

a day festival. But not so

handy for a summer of fes-

tivals!

1. First, remove the fake flower from its stem. The shorter the stick, the easier it will be so cut the stem with a pair of scissors if its too long. And figure out where you’re going to place your flowers,

2. Take a thumbtack and pierce the elastic headband. It should pierce with relative ease.

3. Take your glue gun and squeeze a small amount of hot glue, enough so that the pointed end of the thumbtack is coated all around with hot glue.

4. Fit the small hole over the point-ed end of the thumbtack and press the flower down until it lies flat against the headband. Hold it there until you know the flower is secure.

5. Repeat this step with your flowers, leaving some space in between your flowers for when you place your leaves. Try to keep your flow-ers evenly spaced, but it doesn’t have to be exact.

6. After you have glued all of your flowers to the headband, now it’s time to add the leaves. You can place the leaves wherever you wish, whether you want it to be evenly distributed or random. I alternated mine in between the flowers. Repeat the steps that you did with the flowers, using a hot glue and thumbtack to se-cure the leaves. Ta-da! Finished!

Using fake flowers is a great way to ensure your headbands last, they have a very different look to them but still look fab!

BESTIVAL 101Outkast Outkast have announced the first UK date of their reunion tour. André 3000 and Big Boi will headline this year’s Bestival on the Isle of Wight, it has been revealed.

Taking place from 4-7 September at Robin Hill Country Park, the event will play host to only one of two UK festival performances by the hip-hop duo. According to organis-ers, there will be three more headliners added to the bill, and the festival theme will be Desert Island Disco.

“Hey ya! By the power invested in me as chief Bestival booker, I’m pretty darn excited to announce that Outkast are head-lining Bestival this year!” Rob da Bank said in a statement. “We’ve fought hard to

get the recently reunited legendary hip-hop duo on to the ferry … and it’s no or-dinary ferry this year, as Bestival goes Desert Island Disco for 2014 … Palm trees, grass skirts and mirrorballs are the order of the day. It truly is gonna be the Bes-tival yet!”

Returning after a hiatus of seven years, Outkast will spend this summer cel-ebrating their 20th anniversary by appear-ing as a marquee act at a series of events, four of which have now been announced: Bes-tival; the two weekends of Coachella on 11 and 18 April; and New York’s Governors Ball in June. Their schedule still seems open for Glastonbury, hmm...

Swim2Bestival Last year, bestival was a scorcher, and my betting is it’s not goin gto be much different this year! So what better way to cool down for the weekend ahead than to ditch the ferry and swim! Yep you read cor-rect... swim. “Welcome to Swim2Bestival, quite sim-ply the best way to get Bestival on the Isle of Wight. Swim2Bestival is a charity

event that takes place the day before the festival begins and allows festival goers crazy enough to take on the challenge the opportunity to don their Speedos in a ‘man-against-the-elements’ test of strength and stamina, swimming the 1.3 mile stretch of cold and choppy water that is the Solent.”

Crazy bunch of people thats what I say!

Bestival goes back to its roots

A NEW stage will bring some of the biggest stars of reggae to the Isle of Wight for Bestival this year.

Rob da Bank said the new Reggae Roots stage would bring together top names from ska, rock steady, ragga, dub, dancehall and jun-gle.

He said: “It’s no secret that many of us at Bestival HQ are well into dub, reggae, roots and bass music. Having hosted many of the legends of the genre from Lee Scratch Perry to Gregory Isaacs and the Twinkle

Brothers it seemed about time we had a stage just for the skankers and the low-end lovers.“The soundsystem is going to be off the scale, the stage is going to look like a backyard Jamaican dance and you guys are going to make it all happen, in the sun-shine, in love with the bass.”

Acts already announced for the new stage in-clude Toddla T, Prince Fatty, Trojan Sound System, Robbo Ranx, Natty and the Island’s own reggae stars The Ohmz.
