Dear Parents and Staff

Page 2: NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

As the weather became increasingly worse as the day progressed yesterday I seriouslyquestioned my decision to brave the elements with only the protection of a cardboardbox and my sleeping bag. However, the thought of so many having to do this each andevery night of the year without the relative safety of a very secure school setting made meconsider that I was, perhaps, being a bit soft. So, ably accompanied by David Shumack(Bursar) and Jason Tyrrell (Year 5 Teacher), we took on the challenge in the knowledge thatit was to be only one night and there was plenty of coffee to keep us internally warm evenif, externally, we were freezing. After an uncomfortable night on the hard concrete floorwe awoke full of energy for the day ahead. Thank you to all families for donating the goldcoin for Pyjama Day. We will invite a member of the Notre Dame chapter of the St Vincentde Paul Society to an assembly in the near future to receive this on behalf of those ingreat need. The total amount collected for the day was $501.25.

A very special thank you to Mario Fisicchia who brought us each a large hot chocolateduring the evening to help keep us warm.

CLASS NEWS - KINDERGARTENWhat a great start to Term Three we have had inKindergarten! The children have settled back intoschool and we have had a busy few weeks. We havestarted to learn about community workers and we had alovely visit from the Belmont Fire Station. They showedus how the fire hose works, what they have to do in case of afire and what firemen have to wear. We all had lots of fun!!

Page 8: NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

In dramatic play we have set the classroom up withhospital supplies, so the children can pretend that theyare nurses and doctors. We are also making craftitems such as a doctor’s bag, a nurse’s hat anddiscussing hospitals and community workers during ourliteracy and mat times.

In Maths we have been learning about positions and reading Rosie’sWalk to showdifferent positions of over, under, through and around. The children have been doing anumber of activities to learn about positional language including painting the positions, positional games and trying out the positions themselves.

Notre Dame were in charge ofhosting the event and we were blessed with a beautiful sunny day. Students came into theday well prepared and ready to test themselves against some fantastic runners from ourpartner schools. Notre Dame started the day with some great results from our Year 4’s,with two top 3 places and consistent places in the top 15. Well done to Kayla Browne inthe Year 4 girls for coming 1st and Samuel Chua in the Year 4 boys coming 3rd. This set upthe day well for our senior year groups who did not let the rest of the team down withsome hard and gritty performances that put us in a good position to take out the title thisyear. I would like to congratulate the Year 6 group who showed great leadership withvarious duties throughout and a fantastic collective effort in their races. Notre Dame hada fantastic day against some quality schools, coming in 3rd place overall. All the students
