The New Wave in
Israeli Cinema
Encounters withthe Rising
Generation of
Israeli Film
First Session
Contemporary Israeli
cinema is blessed with a
large group of filmmakers
who are just starting outand already made their
mark with an exciting
debut film. Some have
already cleared the hurdle
of the second outing and
made an additional
astonishing cinematic
contribution. These young
men and women have a
lot to say, and they do sothrough the movie
camera. They question the
place where they live and
work, question universal
social issues, and
uncertainties about their
own identity and that of
those around them.
Every month we will meet
young filmmakers who are
part of this new wave, and
hold a serious
conversation about their
sources of inspiration,
view of the world and
work process,
accompanied by clips from
their work.

A stand-up routine in a bar

Suddenly a ManGets Up in the
Morning
The Poetry of Amir
Gilboa
People always thought ofAmir Gilboaas one of the
Palmach-generation
poets, but he stubbornly
insisted that he didnt
belong to any group. In
the midst of the secular
nationalism of Hebrew
poetry, Gilboa wanted to
pray out of the siddur of
the heart andsavepeople (or be saved
himself) from being a
sacrifice to the State.
To mark the thirtieth
anniversary of his death,
we will devote an evening
to a poet who spoke in a
unique voice even when
seen as one of many, a
poet who tried to catch
the butterfly and keep a
stubborn grip on the wisp
of a dream. We will try to
do the same thing.

The New Wave in
Israeli Cinema
Encounters with
the Rising
Generation ofIsraeli Film
Second Session
Contemporary Israeli
cinema is blessed with a
large group of filmmakers
who are just starting out
and already made their
mark with an exciting
debut film. Some have
already cleared the hurdle
of the second outing and
made an additional
astonishing cinematic
contribution. These young
men and women have a
lot to say, and they do so
through the movie
camera. They question the
place where they live and
work, question universal
social issues, and
uncertainties about their
own identity and that of
those around them.
Every month we will meet
young filmmakers who are
part of this new wave, andhold a serious
conversation about their
sources of inspiration,
view of the world and
work process,
accompanied by clips from
their work.
