SISTER PARISH TREASURER REPORT Our 3 year relationship has yielded many blessings! Here is a Summary of the ways the Holy Spirit has been at work in St. Joseph’s parish in Namalaka, through the contributions of the St. Brendan parish as whole and individuals. We have funded a school lunch program for nearly 2 years that has provided for roughly 2000 students at one of the schools in one of the parish villages, and continue to do so. We helped in the final phase of the completion of the new rectory that was able to accommodate us on our visit last summer (details such as curtains). We paid to have electricity brought to the village that is now lightning the rectory and may giver power to New maize mill in the future. We have brought the delegation from MALAWI to visit us in 2016 and will host another group to visit us in fall of 2019. We aided the former pastor Fr. Saulos in repairing his car and for medical help after his accident. We left money with the

women's groups to start small business ventures to help feed there families and send their children to school. We left scholarship funds to aid students in attending secondary school. And we left funds with new pastor Fr. Davie that he may discern how to use in running the parish. We continue to pray for one another and strive to learn from each other. Questions? Contact Marie Hedden at 206-948-5166.

adoration of the angels, shepherds, and kings. Rehearsals 1:30 pm on December 2,

ATHENS. Some children who are now teen helpers will remember this from 2012.

New Testament

THE JAR OF PERFUME

Mark 14: 3-9

Jesus was eating in the home of

Simon in Bethany. Bethany is the

same town where Mary and Martha

and Lazarus lived. A woman came

into the house carrying a very

expensive jar. The jar was made of

alabaster. It was an expensive

white jar, probably very beautiful.

Inside the jar was a kind of

perfume that was also expensive

and had a wonderful smell. She

used the entire jar of perfumed oil

to pour on Jesus’s head, as if she

were anointing someone. People

were surprised that she did this

and some people criticized her for

wasting something expensive. But

Jesus knew that this offering she

made showed her great love for

him. Jesus wouldn’t allow anyone

to criticize her.

Old Testament

THE JAR OF OIL

2 Kings 4: 1-7

After Elijah was carried off to heav-

en, his friend Elisha became a great

prophet. There was a widow with

two children who told Elisha that her

husband—also a prophet—had died

owing money. The creditors who had

lent the money were telling the wid-

ow that if she couldn’t pay, they

would seize her two children to sell

as slaves. The money from the sale

would pay them back. The poor wid-

ow had only one small jug of oil. Eli-

sha said, “Borrow bowls and jugs

from your neighbors—as many as

you can.” So she did that, not know-

ing what Elisha had in mind. Follow-

ing his command, one by one she

started filling all the vessels from

the one little jug of oil. She filled

and filled until all were full. With

that miracle, she now had plenty of

oil to sell. She paid her debts and

the family stayed together.

MY FAITH

Symbols and

Sacramentals

Just like the

woman who anoint-

ed Jesus, we are

people who love

beautiful things.

Here are some

beautiful things

that help us wor-

ship God.

CHURCH BUILDING:

Our church

buildings remind

us that God is

always with us.

The ALTAR is the

place where Jesus

was crucified. It

can be the Cross

(ccc 1182) or the

Table where we

receive Jesus’s

Body and Blood.

The TABERNACLE

is the place where

we honor the

reserved Body of

Christ.

The CHRISM is a

blessed oil that

reminds us of the

gifts of the Holy

Spirit.

ONLINE GIVING

Every person’s finances

and family situation is

different. Jesus makes it

clear that it matters not

how much one gives, but

that it is planned,

calculated, at least

somewhat sacrificial (see

Luke 24:1-4), and not

simply from what is

“leftover” at the end of the

month. We propose the

tithe (10%) as the ideal

every family can consider

working towards. This

means taking steps to give

5% to one’s parish, and

5% to other charities or
