Zoranje weathered ut Tapio’s St. Joseph Chapel and the station in TiFon were destroyed by the rain, wind, and flooding from Tropical Storm Isaac. Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick-St. Anthony and St. Genevieve,

May the Lord give you peace. On Saturday, the 17th, we will celebrate a Mass for healing,

strength and consolation for all those affected by suicide. As you know from my walks over the last few years I am deeply committed to care for those whose lives are touched by suicide. I ask your prayers and presence to support those whom we remember on this day. For too many years the church shunned and alienated those very people whose struggle with life was so painful. We are invited to touch deep pain and to be changed by that experience. Over the last week I have been reading Ian Thorpe’s book, This Is Me. Ian, an Olympic gold medalist and former world record holder in swimming tells his life story and reveals his struggle with depression including the contemplation of suicide. He is world renown, an Olympic athlete, founder and director of an incredible charity and has the courage to be open about his fundamental struggle. I do encourage your reading of his autobiography and consideration of a struggle that so many live with day to day.

We will celebrate Thanksgiving this week. I thank you for your donations of turkeys, and trimmings last weekend. I also thank the Men’s Fellowship group for organizing and implementing this drive. It was wonderfully successful. I invite you to join us for either the vigil Mass on Wednesday or the Mass on Thursday. Please bring candles, bread or wine that we will bless. I only ask that no live turkeys be brought to church with you! As a consideration for Thanksgiving and a way of life, I invite you to consider the gifts of the people in your life, living and deceased. Imagine telling someone that you are grateful for his or her gift! This is an opportunity to thank God for the richness of your life not in possessions but rather in the very presence of God in those people who sometimes make us crazy but are always God’s presence.

Now that the election is done the business of the next month is to affirm a budget. The consistent position that we hold is that the budget must be mindful of those in need. We cannot neglect the widow, the orphan or the stranger. There has been a good deal of one-way discussion regarding entitlements and those who receive from the largess of the government. Our position is one of communion. We are all in this together. We will not leave our sisters and brothers without shelter, food, or education. As we distinguish classes we demand entitlements for our own group. The gospel demands for us are clear. We take care of one another across the board. I encourage you to communicate with your legislators that any legislation must include care for children, the elderly, and those who struggle for subsistence.

As I write this I am in St. Petersburg, Florida. Our annual friar meetings have just concluded. St. Patrick-St. Anthony was praised for our participation in the Franciscan Challenge. I thank you for your generous response. I ask those who have not had a chance to make a pledge to do what they are able to do. One of the groups that we did not have a chance to talk with is the weekday Mass folks. Please know that we need your help as well. We have raised over $70,000 to this point for our elderly friars, our men in formation, and our mission to the poor. There was also some discussion of our parish on Long Beach Island. The friars are grateful for your generous donations. The church is still closed and the friars are not sure when they will be able to return home but are working to be sure people are settled and have what they need.

Please return your Commitment to Ministry Intention Form in the baskets at the doors! If you forgot your form today, please send it in or drop it by the parish office so we can respond to your interest in ministry! If you have not yet picked up a Ministry Binder, please take

one from the vestibule of the church. A Big THANK YOU to everyone who made last weekend’s Turkey Drive a success. The Men’s Fellowship collected 214 turkeys for the House of Bread! Thank You! Our House of Bread Meal Teams serve on Thursday nights, Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfasts. We would love to see you join one of these teams. Please contact Trudi in the parish office for more information. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION Today’s second reading reminds us that the sacrifice of Christ frees us from sin and makes us a royal nation of priests in the service of God. How am I using my gifts to serve God and others?

LIVING STEWARDSHIP We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who have demonstrated active stewardship by feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger and clothing the naked.

SPSA MEN’S FELLOWSHIP GROUP The 4th Annual Turkey Drive event was a tremendous success. Thank you to all who were able to donate and special thanks to the SPSA Confirmation Class and Men’s Group volunteers for your time and labor. The SPSA Thanksgiving Response needs were met, the House of Bread shelves have been replenished with canned goods and stuffing mixes, and we collected well over 200 turkeys for the House of Bread.

The next Men’s Fellowship meeting will be on Wed., Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Franciscan Center, and conclude with the fellowship/networking portion. Our meeting topic will be Part 1 of a 3-part series “The Jesus I Never Knew” by Philip Yancey. We will explore this topic using a DVD and a study guide and use small group discussions. Mr. Yancey will give us a new way to look at Jesus from the one we knew as a youth (and even as an adult). If you are able, please bring a snack to share with the group and decaf coffee will be provided.

Save The Date: March 22-24, 2013 for the Men’s Retreat at Holy Family Retreat Center.

”Did You Know?” When the team arrived in Gakiri, Rwanda, members of the community (primarily women and children) were walking about two miles several times each day to get water from a contaminated spring. Because of this, families were suffering from malaria, diarrhea and severe dehydration. A new well was built. Now the community is healthier and safer. Sixty-four year old Evarest Muhoza, a farmer, said, "The old water source was far for us, but the new water source is right within the village and has very clean water. Thank you." Basic hygiene education was also provided teaching the community about disease transmission, germs, hand washing, water saving techniques, etc. (Source: The Water Project)

ACTION: Plant in the fall when conditions are cooler and rainfall is more plentiful.

Run your washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.

The Women of Hope Ministry invite your participation. We are looking for your water saving suggestions including those that may have a global impact. If you are interested in sharing, please email: [email protected].

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT “The Church’s love for the poor…is a part of her constant tradition” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2444). The Collection for the Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) provides funding for groups that create lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. In the last five years, over 36% of CCHD’s grants have gone toward advancing education, supporting economic development, and improving housing in low-income neighborhoods. You can help participate in this tradition today. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection.

COLLECTION The collection for last weekend amounted to $14,806.00. Thank you for your generosity.
