“Concern should drive us into action and not into a depression.”
--Karen Horney
Dear Friend, “Anytime you have more than you need, you have abundance,” Sarah Ban Breathnach wrote in Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy. This sen-
tence struck a resonant chord deep within me. So much time seems focused on a feeling of lack, of wanting, when in reality, this is such an abundant universe. If we spend time each day focusing on what we have, rather than what we need, our lives are truly abundant. To achieve a state of abundance, the secret is to live “as if”. Catherine Martin writes in her article, “Abundance is a River”: “When we are stuck in the squeeze of ‘not enough’, we are essentially turning off the tap at the source, which creates less flow and more ‘not enough’.” In his article about paying it forward, Michael Martin explains the need for action in creating true abundance: "Good intention without action is like sitting in a rocking chair. You feel like you are accomplishing something, but you are not getting anywhere." “Catch yourself the next time you start dwelling on what you don’t have,” Breathnach says. Switch tracks by noticing and appreciating all you do have. As this becomes a personal habit, you’ll find yourself coping well with any amount of money you have, rather than worrying about it.” When we are grateful, we have abundance—because to me, abundance is be-ing open to, aware of, and grateful for the goodness in my life. Rather than wor-rying about money, each of us has the option daily to focus on the good—then take action. I am eternally grateful for the abundance of writers, helpers, readers, volun-teers and advertisers involved in creating each issue of EVOLVING. This month, to get ready for the holidays, we also include a Holiday Gift Guide with suggestions for unique, non-traditional and inspirational gift ideas. May your holiday season be blessed.

Communiversity’s Wholistic Health Fair By Rick Mareske The very first Wholistic Health Fair, held in the Spring of 1990, was the brain child of Communiver-sity employee Jo Bonewits. Years ago, she was in-spired to “give people in the community an event where they could find out about holistic health prac-tices to better direct their own research and re-sources.” Her idea was that instead of throwing your-self down on a table and saying “Heal me,” you could be an active participant in your own healing. That first health fair boasted twenty booths and twenty-five workshops. This November, Communiversity will host over 60 exhibitors and 20 workshops. Barbara Criswell, owner of Aquarius, is a regular exhibitor at the fair. She is especially impressed with the non-commercial nature of the gathering and the sense of community the fair inspires. “People come to the Communiversity Health Fair as a way to en-hance and expand their lives, not out of a sense of neediness. That’s why I enjoy it so much and partici-pate twice a year.” In addition to Barbara, the other 60 exhibitors include an incredible diversity of ex-perience and services such as: hepatitis “C” screen-ings, shamanic astrology readings, reflexology, gem-
stone readings and raw food. Information is dissemi-nated on a diverse and vibrant alternative culture right here in KC. Many items are for sale ranging from jewelry to salt lamps. In addition to the many exhibitors at our fair, they offer some great workshops at a bargain price. You can take three workshops for $5 if you pre-register by calling Communiversity. Workshops include: Maya Abdominal Massage, The Healing Power of Plants, Reverse the Aging Process, Holographic Chips and much more. The workshops offer partici-pants a chance to enhance their knowledge and ask questions of the presenters. You can find an array of innovative health con-cepts on the top floor of UMKC’s University Center on Sunday, November 14th from 11:00 AM until 6 PM. Twenty workshops will offer the health fair at-tendee new ways of dealing with physical and spiri-tual issues, while over sixty exhibitors will introduce their products, know-how and services. Call 816-235-1407, pick up a catalog of upcoming classes and the show guide at any public library or visit our website www.umkc.edu/commu for more information.

The New Smoothie
By Bethany Klug My first experience with the smoothie was part of a diet that promised better health by eating only fruit until lunch time. What a disaster! My blood sugar swung from high to low and my dys-biotic bowel went wild. That was the last time a smoothie crossed my lips on an empty stomach, until now. I’ve taken the smoothie to a whole new level. The New Smoothie is a quick and easy nutrition delivery vehicle. The New Smoothie has three ele-ments: liquid base, protein staying power, good for you thickeners and tasty phytonutrients. Simply choose at least one item from each category, blend and enjoy. Amounts are approximate. Use an amount that tastes good to you. Now, let’s turn the smoothie further on its head. This recipe comes from my friend Roger. He juice fasts one day every week and breaks the fast with this soup, or is it a smoothie? You decide. Whatever you call it, it’s a tasty way to enjoy vegetables. Try it for breakfast. Add parsley and fresh herbs for another tasty variation.
1 cup water or kombucha
Juice of ½ lemon
2 cucumbers, chopped
2 cloves garlic
Cayenne pepper or fresh hot pepper to taste
1 ½ - 2 avocados
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Serves 4.

journey to wholeness
By Jude LaClaire, Ph.D.
There are two ways of spreading light. To be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.
—Edith Wharton As the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer we come closer to the celebration of "light" in a num-ber of different spiritual traditions. You may wonder why your thoughts or worries about the season feel heavy or burdensome. Perhaps a review of some of the things you can do to feel better, lighten the load or brighten your mood may be in order. You groan, “More things to do?” Self-care is the one thing on the "to do" list that can give you more energy, make tasks seem easier, keep you healthy and help you make wiser decisions about how to use your time. Who has time to be frantic, fatigued or sick? These are things you know; but like many of us, easily forget. Let’s start with the basics. Getting enough sleep? Rubin Naiman, Ph.D., author of Yoga of Sleep: Sacred & Scientific Practices to Heal Sleeplessness, can help you with some practical ideas on how to get the sleep you need to be rested and well. Some studies tell us that ½ of adults struggle with insomnia. What are you eating? If you eat lots of healing foods like fruits & veggies, protein from lean meat or fish, beans, legumes, chickpeas, nuts and seeds, little sugar and take Pro-biotics you will have a clear head, a happy digestive system and avoid those colds and flus going around. Are you walking, running, swimming or working out 30 minutes at least 3-4 times a week? Our bodies hun-ger for movement and physical activity. Aerobic activ-ity changes the "depression chemicals" in our blood to "feel good" hormones. “Motion is lotion,” a friend of mine used to say. It truly is. Feel stiff, have aches and pains? Then exercise is truly for you. Create emotional harmony within yourself and with others! This is an important ingredient of good health any time of the year. Lift the emotional weight by em-bracing the "child within" and have some fun. Pretend
that you are having the great holiday you never had or a better, different holiday than you had as a child. Work things out with people close to you.
Find ways to ease stress and relax. Relaxation and pleasure create healing states of mind. What kind of music are you listening to? Are you doing things you enjoy? Choose holiday activities that are fun for you, as well as for others. Dance when you can, take a break when you need it and listen to your body-mind telling you what he/she needs. Do what you believe in. Celebrate the holidays with rituals that are meaningful to people you will be with and to you. Find the beliefs that unite and span the different cultural and religious worlds. Common val-ues like peace, giving and receiving authentically, shar-ing joy, showing appreciation and love can bring every-one together. Several books that offer great ways to be healthier and relieve stress caught my attention recently. Jona-than H. Ellerby, Ph.D. in Inspiration Deficit Disorder: The No-Pill Prescription to End High Stress, Low En-ergy and Bad Habits gives strategies for making posi-tive changes. David Servan-Schreiber, MD, Ph.D., a cancer survi-vor and neuropsychiatrist, in Anti-Cancer: A New Way of Life, tells us that the way one would live to avoid cancer has the same components that any healthy life would demand. He talks about nutrition, exercise, psychological wounds and creating the healthy relationship with our body-mind that stimu-lates the immune system. It seems that being healthy, having fun, reducing stress and "lighting" up your life with peace, joy and harmony share similar approaches. I hope that this year you can find ways to relieve your stress and enjoy each minute as you create the Holidays anew. Jude LaClaire, Ph.D. LCPC, LCSW is a counselor, edu-cator and author. For counseling appointments, semi-nars, training, speaking engagements or information on Neurobehavioral Programs call 913-322-5622. For more information about Jude LaClaire or the Kansas
City Holistic Centre, go to www.kcholistic.com. [email protected].

EVOLVING… A GUIDE FOR CONSCIOUS LIVING 9 November 2010
By Nancy Russell, M.D. Are you at risk for vitamin D defi-ciency? Everyone is potentially at risk in Kansas City as we live above the 35th parallel. We simply live too far away from the sun. And many of us use sun-screen and avoid the mid-day sun to protect against skin aging and skin can-cer. Other factors that prevent vitamin D absorption from the sun include: high air pollution, darker skin, aging, obesity, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, choles-terol medications, kidney or liver dis-ease. In addition to its role in bone health, vitamin D regulates dozens of genes and is involved in normal cell division, immune function, insulin se-cretion, blood clotting and blood pres-sure. Given all these roles, maintaining sufficient levels of vitamin D is crucial to optimal health. Vitamins are substances that are es-sential to the function of the human body, but are not produced by the body. Hormones, on the other hand, are pro-duced by the body and function as chemical messengers. The chemical structure of vitamin D is very similar to the sex and adrenal hormones and actu-ally is produced in the human body. So vitamin D acts more like a hormone than a vitamin and affects many impor-tant bodily functions. Our body makes vitamin D with sun exposure to UVB (ultraviolet B) sun rays. Even with sun exposure, most of the people checked for vitamin D levels are deficient, unless they are taking sup-plements. The best blood test to assess your levels is 25-hydroxy vitamin D3. The normal range is generally 32-100 ng/dl. Many authorities recommend to be at the bottom of this range for opti-mal health and to prevent toxicity. Many researchers and healthcare practitioners now believe that the optimal level is over 50 and up to 90. Vitamin D is fat soluble, so it does build up in the body and toxicity can occur. It is important to monitor blood levels at least once a year. Signs of vitamin D deficiency may include: chronic pain in muscles, joints and bones, muscle weakness, os-teopenia, osteoporosis, seasonal affec-tive disorder, periodontal disease, high blood pressure, lowered resistance to infections, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome and high blood sugar. Most sources recommend exposure to the sun as the best source of vitamin D. If you get 15 to 20 minutes of daily ex-posure to the midday sun with bare arms and legs, you may be protected. Avoid bathing and chlorine in swim-ming pools for as long as possible after sun exposure to allow the body to con-
vert sunlight to vitamin D in the body. For most people, optimal vitamin D levels require a combination of sun ex-posure, dietary sources of vitamin D, and supplements. A few sources of die-tary vitamin D include: eggs, mush-rooms, crab, shrimp and oily fishes. Supplements of vitamin D2 and D3 are available by prescription and over-the-counter. When taken by mouth, it is best absorbed with a meal with some fat as it is a fat soluble vitamin. Vitamin D3 is better absorbed and utilized by the body than vitamin D2. Most multivitamins and standard vitamin D tablets contain 400 IU’s (international units) per tablet which is the recommended daily allow-ance (RDA). For postmenopausal women, the recommendation is 800 IU’s per day. Most adults need at least 1000-2000 IU’s per day to achieve opti-mal levels. Some may need higher doses. The potential benefits of vitamin D are shown in observational studies and study trials, suggesting that optimizing vitamin D levels may help prevent a wide range of diseases associated with low levels of vitamin D. They include: various forms of cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflam-matory bowel disease, periodontal dis-ease, autoimmune disease, chronic pain and the flu. To achieve these possible benefits, it is important to work with your health-care practitioner to monitor your vita-min D levels. Optimizing your levels with adequate and sensible sun expo-sure, dietary sources and supplements offers real benefits. Vitamin D can con-tribute significantly to overall health and well-being. Nancy Russell, M.D. is a holistic Inter-nal medicine physician and has prac-
ticed in the Kansas City northland for 28 years. Dr. Russell blends traditional and
alternative medicine in her holistic medical practice. As a founding member of the American Board of Holistic medi-

EVOLVING… A GUIDE FOR CONSCIOUS LIVING 11 November 2010
By Jayana DeWolf As a little girl, growing up in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Tina was taught to measure success by hard work and the amount of money she made. For this reason, Tina spent much of her adult life doing what was expected of her. She got a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development, married a few times, divorced a few times, became a mother, didn’t ask for much and worked hard to make a lot of money. Unfortunately, as each year passed, she adopted unhealthy habits which eventually led to obesity, denial and depression. In 1994, after a divorce and a string of administrative/management jobs, Tina decided a change of scenery was needed, so she moved to Kansas City. For a while she was at peace until she found herself divorced again, this time left alone to raise her autistic son, Anthony. The pressures of life and the added responsibilities of raising her son solidified her resolve to do what she must to make money. A few years passed, Tina remarried and city life was good for the couple—but something seemed to be missing. Both wanted to recapture their rural roots. Obviously they could not quit their full-time jobs and move to the country over-night, so they decided to stay in the city to live and buy five acres of land in Adrian, MO where they would keep three Alpacas. Although Tina enjoyed her city/country life, some-thing was still amiss. Her self destructive habits prevailed: eating, changing jobs every three years and doing what was expected. Upon reflection, we see the portent of a moment, how a single step becomes the catalyst for great change. The year 2008 held three seemingly simple moments for Tina and Bob, the first being the decision to purchase a home with 25 acres in Adrian, MO. They intended to continue working their full-time jobs while creating supplemental income with Al-paca textiles and products,-slowly purchasing more livestock each year. The second simple moment was in September, when ten-year-old Anthony said, “Mom, you need to go on The Biggest Loser”. Tina, at 5’5”, had reached 252 lbs and was steadily gaining. She had high blood pressure. She was too embar-rassed to tell anyone just how lost, hopeless and alone she truly felt. Tina knew he was right and she had to do some-thing. The third moment was two weeks before Thanksgiving, when Tina decided to try a program she had found on the internet. The program had been around for over 30 years and had been repeatedly studied by teaching hospitals and a number of universities including Johns Hopkins University, each time proven to be safe and effective. Tina was intrigued and even more impressed with the focus not being on weight loss, but instead on three lifestyle areas: body (how you fuel your body), mind (how your habits are choices), and finance (becoming a productive human). Two years ago, if you had asked Tina what she wanted to do with the rest of her life she may have answered, “eat and pay the bills.” Today, she understands that things don’t have to stay the same and would boldly reply, “I’m the Alpaca weight loss lady and I’m committed to creating opportunities for people to make healthier life choices!” Since making the commitment to start the program, Tina changed her body and lost 105 pounds. She changed her way of thinking, stopped counting calories and carbohydrates, and chose to dream big instead of be big. She changed her finances and traded in her make-money career for the more rewarding role of Health Coach. Tina and her husband Bob started The Golden Heartland
farm which is home to 24 Alpaca, one Llama, and six fainting goats and Alpacas for Autism, a non-profit organization dedi-cated to hosting family-oriented fundraising, educational and inspirational events. You can keep your head down, do what is expected of you and spend your whole life chasing money…or you can choose to give and live!

EVOLVING… A GUIDE FOR CONSCIOUS LIVING 12 November 2010
By Catherine Martin, RYT As a yoga instructor, the excuse I hear most often is, “I just can’t find the time,” followed closely by, “I can’t fit it in my budget.” Ah…Time and Money… two of our most precious commodities! But in reality, time and money are simply forms of Energy. So often when financial worries creep up on us, we focus on the lack and begin to take things away. This creates more feelings of “not enough” and we tighten our belts even more. If you are feeling the squeeze and ready for a change-step back and take a deep breath… really, close your eyes and breathe… that’s bet-ter! Let’s think about the budget as a flow of energy. When we can see Time and Money as energy, we can begin to look at this flow of energy in our lives and whether it is flowing in the areas that we wish to grow and expand. When we are stuck in the squeeze of “not enough”, we are essentially turning off the tap at the source, which creates less flow and more “not enough”. Think about your intentions for your life and look at where your time and money are going. Do you see a healthy flow in the direction that supports your inten-tions? What's amazing is that when we make the shift toward things that nurture us, the energy is made avail-able to us to allow the flow to continue.
This flow of energy can be visualized as water. Water wants to continue moving in the same direction that the other water molecules are flowing. This is why we get ruts in the yard after a hard rain, or if you water your garden too fast, the water creates a little stream away from your plants instead of soaking down into the ground. Some-times we have to build a little dam to stop the water from going in an undesirable direction and redirect it where we want it to flow, but then it will easily flow in the new di-rection—once you get the ground good and wet, the water will continue to go down to nourish the roots.
If your budget is a garden, are you watering the flow-ers, herbs and vegetables? Or are you watering the weeds? It's not up to anyone else to say which flowers in your garden will get watered and which ones it is time to let go of. Only you have the power to direct the energies in your life—and when you align the flow of your energy with your intentions—beautiful things begin to blossom! To paraphrase one of my favorite quotes from Lao Tzu, “Be like the Ocean, the most powerful force in the Uni-verse; lay low and let all rivers and streams come to you.” If you are working hard at trying to stay on top, the flow of energy (time, money, etc) has a hard time flowing up-hill. Instead, stay low, grounded and connected to those people and places that help you remember your Source—family, church, friends, nature, or a yoga class—remember that the unlimited abundant supply of every-thing you ever need is within you! And if all else fails, it never hurts to pray for rain!

By Tom Anderson On a sunny August afternoon, I sat on a rock next to a stream in the Sierra Moun-tains of California and had a conversation with a trout. Ordinarily I’d be fishing for trout, not talking to them, but this wasn’t an ordinary day. It was the first of a nine-day wilderness vision quest; and I was there because I was desperate to find some answers about the future direction of my life. In my desperation, I was willing to talk to anyone—or anything—that would listen. I had reached a turning point in my life a few months prior, on the day my boss offered me a partnership position in his firm. It was everything I had ever wanted; yet, it didn’t stir my heart. I knew the time had come, at 45 years old, to finally figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. As I sat on the rock watching the trout watch me, I began to tell him my story. I explained why I was there and what I was looking for. I shared my hopes and dreams, concerns and aspirations. I don’t really remember all of what I said to him, but I do remember he was a good listener, so good I wanted to do something to thank him. I remembered the wooden flute I had brought along in my day pack and took it out and began to play for him. As I played
I swayed back and forth with the gentle breeze in time to the music. It was then I heard a voice. At the time, I wasn’t sure if it was coming from the trout, the river, or simply my imagination, but the voice said, What do you want? In my mind, I answered, I want to know who I am. The voice spoke again saying, What are you willing to give? By now, the tears were streaming down my face and it was getting harder to play the flute; but I was afraid if I stopped, the magic of the mo-ment would end. I didn’t think very much about my response, it just came: Every-thing, I said in my mind—and nothing has been the same since. In this season of abundance, we take time to give thanks for all the many bless-ings in our lives. Even when times might seem a bit darker during the rest of the year and even if the table that holds the form of our bounty might be a little less full than in years past, we still can find something for which to give thanks. Yes, abundance is having all of our material needs met, but it’s also the wisdom of say-ing “Enough.” Yes, abundance is found in having friends and family in our lives, but it’s also found in the silence of our solitude. Yes, abundance is having a body that’s healthy and vigorous, but it’s also found in
the understanding that we are not our bodies. As I sat next to the stream, I was seek-ing a kind of abundance. I wanted to know who I was, what my inner gifts were and what my contribution to the world was meant to be. In that moment in time, there was nothing that signified abundance more to me than having the answers to those questions. After all, I had everything else I wanted: a wonderful wife and family, a good job with a partnership offer waiting and a more than acceptable income. In that moment in time, what was missing in my life was meaning and purpose, deep satisfaction in my work and the knowledge that my life would stand for something in the long run. The question from the trout/universe was simple but not easy: “What are you willing to give?” In the exact mo-ment of my answer I had abundance be-yond measure; because in that moment, I was willing to let everything go. Abundance is like that: equal parts receiving and letting go. It’s an unlikely balance of counting your blessings but doing so without attachment. It’s giving thanks in advance without the need for the outcome. It’s the “pearl of great price,” to quote the Master Teacher, that once found, the finder will give everything in return. This isn’t to imply that the energy
of abundance is transactional, because it’s not. The universe doesn’t exact a price from you before it gives in return. No, the energy of abundance is more like that stream my trout friend called home—always flowing. When we let go of our old attachments we are able to step fully into the stream of abundance—to flow with it. I have gotten some answers to the ques-tions that took me into the wilderness and brought me to the trout’s stream, at least based on my current level of understanding about them; but I never would have done so, without being willing to give “everything” in return. And so, I ask you this: What are you willing to give to have the desires of your heart in this season of giving thanks? Abundance awaits.

EVOLVING… A GUIDE FOR CONSCIOUS LIVING 13 November 2010
By Michael Martin
I made a discovery about abundance that is so awe-some I have to tell other people about it. I evolved a four-step process of giving, which has not only multiplied the good in other people’s lives that I
have touched, but also increased my own abundance. The Habit of Being Open and Vulnerable in Helping Others I was raised in a small town in Oklahoma. It was so small that everyone knew everyone else’s business. The values were very fundamentalist. I was taught it was right to give, and we were expected to help anyone in need. Learning this was a blessing. I carried this belief pattern of helping others with me through college, the military and today. The Necessity of Receiving as Well as Giving Help Because of my upbringing, I found that helping was easy, but receiving was difficult. I was taught to accept only a “thank you” when people would try to pay me back in some way. As I evolved, I began to realize the need to receive as well as to give. I took my Aunt Rose to dinner when she was in her 90’s. She lamented how hard it was to keep house, pay bills, and most of all, get around town. She hated the thought of depending on others for help. I asked her to remember all those years she drove people to church, the grocery, the doctor. How did she feel when they said thank you? “You need to return the fa-vor,” I told her. “Let them have the joy of driving you to church, the grocery and the doctor!” While I was persuad-ing Aunt Rose to accept help, I taught myself the impor-tance of “completing the circle” in the exchange of energy. Just do it…and do it, Again Be open to spontaneous opportunities for giving help and then receiving it back. Later on, when I did some-thing for someone, they might ask, “How can I repay you?” I hit on a new way to allow people to give back. I said, “Here’s my mother’s phone number at the retire-ment home.” Mother would report these people calling and telling her awesome stories. I had no idea that almost everyone I gave that assignment to would follow through! For example, a number of years ago I worked for a large consulting firm and traveled throughout North America. I had just completed a meeting with a bank and was going to the parking garage to get the rental car. A young woman approached me in tears. She said she had left her car lights on and her battery was dead. The solution re-quired running down five sets of stairs, searching for and finally buying jumper cables from a cab driver, running up five sets of stairs and jump-starting her car. She had just graduated from OSU and was trying to make it to her next job interview. When she asked if she could pay me, I gave her my mother’s address and asked
her to tell what happened with the interview. Within a few days, Mother called and told me, “The young lady got the job.” The woman continued to send updates and Christmas cards until Mother died. This and other feedback from all the people who called Mother also showed me how much the ripples from my good deeds continued to positively affect people. Observe the Multiplier Effect on Others and Ourselves Now, when someone asks how they can repay me, I tell people to help someone else. I learned the phrase, “pay-it-forward” in the book by the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde and realized this is the gist of what I have been doing for years. “Pay-it-forward” best explains the process of passing on the good deed because it benefits not only the people you help and the people they help, but also you get back, directly or indirectly, increased abun-dance. This big AH-HA moment came when I realized that if I spontaneously helped someone—no matter how small the amount—that, immediately, the abundance started com-ing back from everywhere. Sometimes it was even ten to fifteen times or more than what I had given. As one small example, I gave somebody a couple of pennies at the cash register so she would not have to dig for change and re-ceived not only a heart-felt thanks but also then found a quarter in the parking lot on the way to the car. Another example: Three years ago a man in his mid-20’s came into my store. He had two large bags full of military gear. He asked what I would pay for all his stuff. He had just returned from a tour in Iraq. When I asked if he was still in the Reserves, he said yes, but his civilian company had been downsized and his job was eliminated while he was gone. I said, “If I buy your military gear, then you will have to replace it somewhere down the road for ten times what I gave you.” He said he had no money for bills or to look for a job. I asked him how much money he needed, handed him the cash and said, “When you get back on your feet, I would like my money back, but what-ever works out is OK.” About thirty days later, he returned smiling with money in hand. He had found a great job paying more than his old one. The ripples from this good deed went far beyond helping this one guy. Not only was his family helped, his boss gained a great employee, and the Reserves still had a well-equipped soldier. I did not help him ex-pecting a return, but I got my money back as well as some new customers whom he had told about our story. Why It Works This practice of giving and receiving, which sets up a current of growing abundance for all, is as old as the spiri-tual law, “We are all connected.” Indeed, the practice works because of that law.
A New Idea for Giving Back to your Spiritual Source Here is a unique way, as a reader of EVOLVING and a believer in the power of Spirit, which you can try out. It will show you how these four concepts can be put into action and involves another concept that I have para-phrased from a wonderful book, The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity, by Edwene Gaines: Give to the People from Whom you Receive the Most Spiri-tual Food. Many people give their energy, time and money to their church, temple, rabbi or guru. I want you to also consider including the health practitioners, like the ones in EVOLVING, who are already helping you. As a group, holistic healers are here, first, to help peo-ple. Many have a regular job and do what they can on the side. All are constantly trying to improve their skills and tools. They could do so much more with a little help. Of the infinite possibilities available to help our healers, here are the suggestions I have honed in on: 1. Find someone you believe in—I call them our An-
gels—i.e. your therapist, counselor, chiropractor, energy practitioner… My favorite “Angel” is an RN and alternative healer. She could make two or three times more money in a hospital environment, but she loves what she does. Once she gets her hands on someone, she works on all levels of body, emotions, mind and spirit, to help them heal.
2. Sponsor an ad in EVOLVING or another publication. Jill Dutton and her advertising staff will help. You will be giving back to your own Angel by helping them increase their clientele, and you will be amazed how inexpensive this will be. Advertising is not al-ways a priority in their practices; but with more cus-tomers, they would earn more and be able to afford more seminars and classes as well as improve their facilities. Our alternative healers are not just gifts to us as patients; they are treasures to be shared.
3. Just do it, spontaneously. Do not hesitate, procrasti-nate, or analyze it to death. Be open to the opportu-nity of the moment—even if it is one very small act of sharing your abundance. Good intention without action is like sitting in a rocking chair. You feel like you are accomplishing something, but you are not getting anywhere. This affirmation sums it up: Qui-etly and with great love I am giving the gift of adver-tising to my “Angel.” I am paying it forward.
4. Watch and marvel. Once you learn to give out a por-tion of your abundance, like magic, you will start to see it go to work in the lives of people you touch.
Abundance is like love: the more you give back, the more you have.

HOW CAN LYMPHATIC ACTIVATION HELP YOU?
The lymphatic system is the body's sewage system for dumping dead cells, viruses, bacteria and foreign debris the body produces each day. The body has lymph vessels through the entire body that carry this debris to the lymph nodes in the inguinal area, arm-
pits, breast, face, stomach and smaller lymph nodes. The debris then dumps into the intestines. When the body develops illness, constipation, diarrhea or trauma, this impedes elimination, as do various medications. Headaches, sinus or gallbladder problems, pain in the legs or arms and many other ailments could just be a blocked system. If your doctor cannot find a problem and you know something is just not right, give Terry a call!

wind instruments, but your lungs will thank you for
the extra gentle workout it gives. You do not need

traditional instruments, as you make music from
the heart. We all need modes of self-expression

EVOLVING… A GUIDE FOR CONSCIOUS LIVING 20 November 2010
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) Happy birthday Scorpio! Numerous planetary alignments are helping you let go of the past, especially when it comes to disappointments in relationships. Meditation allows your heart to be emptied out, scrubbed clean and refilled with expectations of joy and a renewed opti-mism. Some very old subconscious family/childhood patterns are being removed. You’ll find you can interact with others without strange self-sabotage. Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21) You could be meeting new friends who actu-ally live out spiritual ideas, rather than merely talk about them. As a Sagittarius, your quest is to use what you are learning. Having the camaraderie of others who “walk the talk” empowers you to make many changes. Parts of your life of which you’ve been in denial or have given up hope of healing, will suddenly resolve. Also, if you don’t have a special medi-tation area in your home, give yourself that gift this month! Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) If you’ve been wishing and creatively visualiz-ing for a new job, this could be your month! Even if you don’t change jobs, something will happen where you feel better about being there – a new supervisor, fun project, more pay, a co-worker who becomes a great friend. Meditate on prosperity. Prosperity can mean financial abundance, and can also mean happy situations in your life. Stay positive -- experience the fulfillment that you have cre-ated! Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) Your heart is opening to new sources of love and happiness. Even if certain relationships have felt hopeless, you’ll have breakthroughs that seem almost miraculous. Meditate on receiving love from the Universe and from others around you. Also, see yourself radiat-ing love out from your core. Let the past float away and feel new levels of self-esteem rush-ing in to fill the void created by letting go of old hurts. Avenues of prosperity will also be opening up! Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20) You’re having a renewal in your ability to trust. As a Pisces, you truly believe in uncon-ditional love and are very romantic. However, you’ve likely become cynical and self-protective over the years. Let the energies of the Universe restore your faith in humanity and love! If single, ask for signs in your dreams that will help you take further steps to open your heart to the perfect partner. It’s also a great time to splurge on yourself. It will help you get tuned into the abundance and opulence of the Universe. Aries (March 21 – April 19) You could be starting a new relationship! Make friends with people who share your spiritual values, or participate in more activi-ties that are spiritual or charitable. This is how you’ll meet your new love. If partnered, try to include more of these types of activities to feel added emotional growth as a couple. Like Pisces, it’s a great time to ask for answers and guidance from dreams and meditation. Taurus (April 20 – May 20) This is the time to make changes in your life. It’s important not to merely think about changes, or wish things were different. Medi-
tate on a plan of action, and then carry it through step by step. Trust you are being divinely guided and go forward courageously. Even if you want your life to shift, change is stressful for Taurus, so schedule extra self-care, like getting a massage or taking extra yoga classes. Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Like your Aries pals, you could be starting a new relationship! Please make sure you both share similar values on spirituality. You can’t deny this part of yourself anymore, and it is too stressful to have to hide your soul from someone you love. You might also have im-provements at work. You could be put on a project that is very valuable to you, or that represents your personal viewpoints. There’s also a lot of prosperity on the way! Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Part of being a Cancer is the seemingly end-less healing of your family-of-origin issues! This month, you’ll truly feel that you’re heal-ing at a very core level. Continued meditation and forgiveness work helps you overcome issues of betrayal and you’ll be able to trust much more deeply in your closest relation-ships. Give people the gift of being let into your heart! Also, commit yourself to your own nurturance with a healthy eating and fitness plan. Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22) Have you been afraid to reveal vulnerabilities in close relationships? The Universe is asking you to take a leap of faith and bond from the soul level, and not just at the personality level. You also may not be seeing your partner clearly and it’s time to face whether or not you actually share compatible values. Any rela-tionships you begin now will start from this clear level of insight. You’ll be more drawn to people who are on a spiritual path and who apply spiritual ideas in daily life. Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) Work difficulties will be clearing up–and you also could be making much more money than you have in quite awhile! Even though you’ll be busier, don’t neglect self-care such as meditation, regular mealtime and enough rest. You might also be starting a new rela-tionship, or feeling a deeper connection with a current partner. Either way, don’t forget about your own needs as you are bonding and blending! Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) You’re having great improvements in your self-image and sense of self-worth. These changes are going to make your relationship better, or attract a great new one. When you dream of “happily ever after”, Libra, it’s crucial that you’re happy and content within yourself first! The fairytale can only unfold when you’re secure inside your soul. Keep up with doing loving things for yourself, even while you’re developing more closeness with an-other. Don’t abandon yourself!
