I know Thanksgiving is still a month away but it’s not to soon to begin planning for the holiday season. It starts with “Thanksgiving Dinner” at the Club on November 27th. Chef Mike and his staff have a mouth-watering buffet planned for “Turkey Day” that will satisfy eve-ryone’s appetite. We are taking reservations that day on-the-hour be-ginning at 12:00 noon through 2:00 p.m. Then we jump right into the Christmas season with the Pro Shop party on Sunday, December 7th. All members are invited to stop by the “19th Hole” for hors d’oeuvres, “Tom & Jerry’s”, wine, fel-lowship and shopping for the golfer on your list! Then it’s the “Children’s Christmas Party” on Sunday, December 15th with Santa Claus making his appearance at 4:30 p.m.! This party always fills the house, so please call early with your reservations. The Club’s “New Year’s Eve” party is again expected to “Rock-the-House” beginning with a very Elegant Seafood Extravaganza fol-lowed by an evening of dancing to the music from the very popular band “Whiskey Creek”! You won’t want to miss this party as the next day the restaurant and lounge will be closed until January 20th for the normal deep cleaning of the kitchen and lounge and cleaning of all the carpets along with interior touch-up painting.

With the golf season in the books, the maintenance staff has finished the cart path

work sodding of all areas around the paths on holes 2, 3 and 4. They turned out great!

With wet weather coming, please use the cart paths as much as possible especially on hole

#3 100 yards from the green. With the new path pushed right away from the bunker,

it will be much more out of play and we will be able

to keep turf next to the bunker. Thanks for your

help!

The planter on 16 was removed and seeded to

grass. It had been landscaped 19 years ago and was

very overgrown.

I hope everyone had a great golf season and

continue proper course etiquette of repairing ball

marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers after use!

There is still some great weather so come out and en-

joy your course!

keep in mind speed of play is still a

factor in playing more than 4. Groups

are required to turn in 2 hours or less

for 9 holes and must keep up with the

group in front of them. If you have

any questions, please ask. Thanks!

The Golf Shop will be open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day,

weather permitting. Please note that the driving range will be closed and carts

will be available as weather permits.

The golf shop staff and I would like to thank all the members of the Walla Walla

Country Club for all that you do for us and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

We would like to welcome Tanner Kelley to our Pro Shop Staff! Please stop by the Pro Shop to meet Tanner!

Tanner grew up in the small town of Okanogan,

Washington, has one older sister, and graduated from

High School in 2010. Tanner was introduced to the

game of golf at the age of 3 by his best buddy, his

grandpa (“Bop Kelley”). During the spring, summer

and fall months, he spent many hours golfing with his

grandpa in Chelan, Washington. After graduating

from high school, Tanner attended the University of

Idaho and pursued his dream of becoming a PGA Golf

Professional. In his second year at the University of

Idaho, Tanner was fortunate to receive the incredible

opportunity to intern during the summer of 2012 at

the Walla Walla Country Club. He says the education-

al and fun experiences he received at the Walla Walla

Country Club from its staff and members solidified his

desire to return to the Club after he graduated from

college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing & Pro Golf Management. In 2012, Tanner

passed his PGA Player Abilities Test and will be completing his Class A certification by

the end of this year. Tanner has aunts, uncles, and cousins who live in Walla Walla and is

extremely grateful for the opportunity to work at the Walla Walla Country Club.

W4n5 R64n7r 1) With a change in the weather comes the possibility of

frost, so please check-in with the Golf Shop before teeing

off or driving your golf cart across the course.

2) The Golf Shop and Driving Range have switched to our

winter hours. The Golf Shop will be open from 8:00 am

till 5:00 pm weather permitting and the driving range will

be open as soon as frost lifts until an hour before sunset.

We’ve come to the end of another great season of Women’s 18 Hole Golf. We have had a chance to participate in three fun tournaments, try our best in sweeps, and mix it up at the end of the month in our special games. We’ve learned more about the rules we play by and how to be good stewards of the course. We’ve had our share of frustrations, some thrills of victory and some agonies of defeat! Mostly we’ve had a chance to grow and enjoy each other’s company. I have really enjoyed being your president this year. I would like to thank our two departing board members, Michele Walters, hospitality chair and Sandy Morrison, guest day chair; they have done a wonderful job! I would also like to thank continuing board members Linda Eki, treasur-er, Dorothy Hanson, tournament chair, Dorothy Valaer, secretary, and Sarah Michelson WSWGA Trus-tee. To members who volunteered in other capacities, thank you so much! We couldn’t do it without you! This year the “18 Hole Women” and “Club 9 Women” will join for a holiday luncheon on Decem-ber 4th. We are so looking forward to getting to know each other better! Mark your calendars and watch for more information soon! Have a great winter, whether here or in a warmer spot, and thanks for participating in the Wom-en’s 18 Hole Golf Association! Best Regards, Janey McKern, President

C 9 Nw

A chilly morning with warmth by noon reminded us that fall is here during our scramble on September 30. The team of Kathleen Lockwood, Betty Simcock, and Sharon Quinn-Sears played the best round with a great score! Thank you to Gloria Camp and Claudia Smith for a nice lunch. The October Committee is Dolores Peery and Barbara Stanford.

October is a month of nominations and planning for 2015. If you have a desire to serve on a committee, please contact Patty Knittel.

Remember to come in a costume on October 28 to have some fun for Halloween! There are prizes for best costumes. It’s the last scramble and meeting of the 2014 golf season, so come and enjoy.

The Holiday Party Gathering is scheduled for Thursday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. We are joining the 18 Holers for this festive occasion.

If you have questions, please call Lisa Hyland, our Golf Professional, 525-1562; Patty Knit-tel at 540-2771; or Anne Haley at 525-6118.

Keep on golfing!!

Save for November so we can vote in the officers next meeting:

New Club Nine officers will assume their responsibilities on January 1 and they are: Co-

Presidents, Sandy Morgan and Betty Simcock. Co-Secretaries are Barbara Jackson and Terry Thunell. Margaret Roser will continue as Treasurer. Thanks to all!

V-n5Nr NNe7eO Autumn is beginning... The mornings are a little brisk, evenings cool-

ing down, the leaves may start turning soon and ladies’ luncheons are start-

ing back up. The Women’s Board works to provide a monthly luncheon

with a variety of topics. The Board is comprised of 10 women and is a

three year commitment. We currently have one vacancy and will need to

replace three members in December. If you would like to volunteer or just

need more information, please leave your name with the office or contact

any member of the Board. Looking forward to hearing from you! A list of

current Board members can be found on page 29 of the 2014 yearbook.

Monthly cycles for Dining Room monthly minimum expenditure will be changing on the 20th of

January when the Clubhouse reopens after its 2 week cleaning period. The new minimum cycles will end on

the day of the month the “main” member was born… example: Jim Abajian was born on the 11th day of

his birthday month so his and Rhonda’s minimum cycle will run from the 12th of every month through the

11th of the following month..

The current minimum cycles will run through the 31st of December, then those “main” members

whose birthdays are on the 19th of the month will begin their minimum cycle on the 20th of January and

will end their cycle on 19th of February. Then the following day (January 21st), those born on the 20th of

a month will begin their minimum cycle and will end their cycle on the 20th of February. It’s very simple,

just remember to have spent your minimum of $45 no later than the day of the month of your birthday!

Those who have birthdays later than the end of the month, will fall on the last day of the month. So

if you were born on the 31st and there is only 30 days in the current month, your cycle would end on the

30th.

Message to Walla Walla Country Club Members

from the Long Range Planning Committee

A Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) has been appointed by the Board of Directors (BOD) to review all aspects of the club and determine what action, if any, should take place to ensure the quality and viability of the club. The committee has independent thinking autonomy and is composed of a diverse selection of members. This group of people want only what is best for the membership and what will help this great club stay great for a long time.

The demographics and opinions of our club membership are diverse and will continue to change over time so it is essential the committee takes that into consideration in long range planning. This group will use the results of the recent survey and at times ask members for ad-ditional opinions to gain a better understanding of what the membership is thinking.

Areas of main concern are as follows:

Membership - review membership categories, get to full membership and retain existing members

Financial Health- review revenue and expenses to maintain the quality of the club in service and facilities as well as capital improvements. Service - determine appropriate service levels in all areas of the club

Programs - review golf, social and recreational activities

Equality - ensure that every member feels welcome and is treated equally

Management - assure that the club and employees are managed in a professional manner Governance - Make sure the club By-Laws are up to date and meet industry standards

The goal is to develop a set of recommendations that will be passed on to the BOD and Stand-ing Committees. Communication with you during this process is essential as the LRPC does not want any of the recommendations to be a surprise. The LRPC wants all members to un-derstand the reasons for these recommendations and it is our hope that the majority of mem-bers will support the changes we feel are appropriate.

View this committee as a major step in uniting our membership toward a common goal of im-proving our club. Let's lower the volume and all work toward making our club the very best it can be.
