Dear Members of First Lutheran Church:
In our church we use a Monthly Ministry approach to help members experience the differ-
ent facets of our worship assembly as well as assist in making each worship service go smoothly.
Our congregation is divided into 12 teams/families. In September and October, we
pass around sign-up sheets for upcoming year. We would like families to choose TWO MONTHS where they would be able to participate. With all of our church families and individu-
als signing up there will be plenty of volunteers to cover the areas needed. All families will be assigned to monthly ministry teams by the end of November. Then the Decem-ber newsletter will include the complete upcoming year’s list of teams. Regular monthly newsletters will list names of those for the current month as well as those volun-teers for the next month as a friendly reminder.
Then in preparation for each month, the coordinator will meet with the teams/families following the worship service, on the 2nd Sunday of the month.
Together this group will volunteer for the many different positions for the upcoming month.
The following are the areas in which whole families can participate: ** Ushers ** Greeters ** Readers
** Altar ** Sound/Video System
** Refreshments for Fellowship following Sunday’s service
Please be willing to answer affirmatively to this calling.
Please consider this an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellow members here at First Lutheran Church.
Thank you from the Worship Committee
Dog Gone Funny!
An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep. An hour later he went to the door and I let him out. The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: “I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful, sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.” The next day he arrived for his nap with a note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with six children, two under the age of 3. He’s trying to catch up on his sleep…….Can I come tomorrow?”

HELP FOR THE DAY:
Dear Lord,
So far today, I’m - doing all right.
I have not gossiped, lost my temper,
been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish, or
self-indulgent. I have not whined,
complained, cursed, or eaten any
chocolate. I have charged nothing on my
credit card.
But, I will be getting out of bed in a
minute, and I think that I will really need
your help then.

STEWARDSHIP: It is Stewardship time again. We are God’s stewards all of the time, but every fall we take another look at our giving plans, both as individuals servants of God and as a congregation. Our them is “Generous Living, Generous Giving!” Generosity is a life-style for God’s people. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love is what we do. Love is how we live. As members of God’s family we are all invited to consider how we will work together to make LIFE happen again in the new year. We will share the family chores in this wonderful place called First Evangelical Lutheran Church. We will give our time, our talents and our financial blessings to God and to the work we share. There have been several opportunities to sign up on the “chores” clipboard so we can plan our work together for the new year. You will be getting a financial intent card and letter soon. Please fill it out prayerfully and return it on Stewardship Sunday, November 8/9 or November 15/16. Thank you. The Stewardship Committee
