Dr. Liao joined the faculty of ShanghaiTech University, China, as a Principal Investigator since 2014. Before that, Dr. Liao has been a faculty of University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center since 2009. Dr. Liao’s research focuses on the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids and small ions in mammals, paying particular interests in their absorption, distribution and excretion through cellular membrane transporters and channels. His active research has led to high-impact peer-reviewed publications on journals including Science, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Liao has expertise in chemical biology, biomolecular engineering and structure-based rational design for the better make of dietary nutrients and drug candidates. Dr. Liao is currently a member of American Biophysical Society, the Biophysical Society of China, Chinese Society for Microbiology and the Chinese Neuroscience Society. He has also served as a consultant to several biotech companies in China.
