COMPLIMENTS OF
Everyone feels stress at one time or another. Some peo-ple can cope with stress more effectively than others. Prolonged high level of stress can lead to serious health effects. What is stress? Stress is the brain’s response to any demand. During stressful situations nerve chemicals and hormones are released causing quickened pulse, faster breathing, and muscle tension. Chronic or constantly recur-ring stress can negatively affect health in the following ways:
Lowered immunity making more prone to viruses, flu or common cold
Digestive and reproductive systems stop working nor-mally
Development of heart disease, high blood pres-sure or diabetes
Depression and anxiety disorder
If you are overwhelmed by stress, seek help. Speak to your physician or seek coun-seling. The 24-hour Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 800-273-TALK.

The United States Congress designated January as Cervi-cal Health Awareness Month. The goal of this month is to promote how women can protect themselves from HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer. In addition, this month promotes the importance of early detec-tion. If detected early, cervi-cal cancer is one of the most successfully treatable can-cers.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Preven-tion, there are two tests that can prevent or detect cervical cancer early—
The Pap test (Pap smear) to look for precancers
HPV test to detect the virus that causes cell changes
Encourage the women in your life to get screened. It may save their life.

Happy New Year. The turn-ing of the calendar brings a new year and for many a time to set resolutions and goals for what they hope to achieve in 2017. Unfortu-nately, it is estimated that only 8% of people are suc-cessful in achieving their New Year resolutions. The US Department of Health and Human Services provides the following tips to help make your resolutions stick. Be Realistic Unfortunately, many people set unrealistic resolutions which can lead to frustration and eventual goal desertion. When setting your New Year resolutions, set smaller goals that are achievable. For example, instead of stating you want to lose 30 pounds, set a smaller goal of losing 6 pounds a month for 5 months. Make the goal achievable and measurable.
Set an Action Plan. Determine specific behaviors that you want to achieve. Instead of making a blanket statement that you want to eat healthier, set a specific goal like consuming 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily or eliminate sugary drinks. Prepare for Challenges. There will be days that you may fall off the wagon. It is helpful to remember why your goal is important to mo-tivate you to get back on track. Get Support. People that have support of family and friends have great-er success. Enlist support of those around to you and en-gage them in your healthy lifestyle changes. You CAN be successful in achieving your 2017 New Year resolutions by following these tips and planning ahead.

A Primary Care Provider (PCP) is a main health care provider for non-emergency care. The role of a PCP includes: Preventive care Health and lifestyle educa-
tion Identify and treat medical
conditions Make referrals to specialists
who treat special conditions (i.e. cardiologist, oncologist, allergist, etc.)
Adults and children who regu-larly visit their PCP have better management of chronic diseas-es, lower overall health care costs and higher level of satis-faction with their care.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Preven-tion, chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and dia-betes are responsible for 7 out of every 10 deaths. Chronic diseases can be preventable through preventive care and screenings provided by a PCP.
Make an investment in your health by finding a PCP.
