Security Health Plan supports schools with behavioral health screenings Security Health Plan recognizes that healthy minds are an integral part of healthy lives. That's why it is proud to announce the recipients of $125,000 in school-based grants.

The grants provide the Behavioral, Emotional and Social Traits (b.e.s.t.) universal screening for 72 Wisconsin elementary schools during the 2017-18 school year.

"Like the vision screenings Wisconsin schools have required since 2001, the b.e.s.t. screening helps education professionals identify behavioral health and risk factors. It then offers data-based solutions when they can have the greatest impact - while students are are young," said Eric Hartwig, Ph.D., school psychologist, former admin-strator of pupil services for the Marathon County Children with Disabilities Education Board and developer of the b.e.s.t. screening.

"Other than family, no one spends more time with students than teachers. It's natural to use their observations of 26 specific behaviors that are predictive of problems now or in the future to provide children with additional sup-port.

Security Health Plan is collaborating with Mindfield LLC, to train the 992 elementary teachers at recipient schools across 17 counties. Teachers will learn how to use the b.e.s.t. screening as an effective early intervention tool to benefit their more than 16,746 students.

"We know healthy minds and behaviors can open up opportunities for children to succeed academically. We want every student to have the best possible chance to learn," said Jay Shrader, Marshfield Clinic Health System vice president of community health and well-ness.

Security Health Plan has invested in b.e.s.t since 2013.

The Inspire Central Wisconsin initiative brings together education and industry to help students and job seekers achieve their goals and address communities’ workforce development needs. Inspire Central Wisconsin provides powerful tools for students and job seekers and adult career searchers, community businesses, educators, and local system administrators.

In an initiative aimed at addressing Wisconsin’s workforce development needs, all nine of the state’s regional economic development organizations have teamed up to develop a statewide platform that directly connects local employers to students. In the Centergy region, that includes the Marshfield area in Wood County, MACCI is leading the effort.

Centergy and MACCI, with support from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DP), will expand the use of a web-based platform called Inspire that virtually connects area businesses to their future talent pool through online profiles, virtual career coaches, and career based learning activities for high school students and educators.

What should I know about Inspire? Inspire is a cloud-based platform that enables collaboration among all community partners in preparing youth to

transition from school success. Inspire integrates seamlessly into Career Cruising for grades 6 to 12.

Inspire connects education and industry with employer profiles, career coaches, work-based learning experiences, communication tools, local events, and social networking connections in a safe and secure platform.

Students engage with employer profiles to see how their pathways connect with businesses and organizations in their community. Students can ask questions of real working people in their community, learn about apprenticeship opportunities, and see upcoming employer-hosted events.

Employers can connect with students and share information about the work they do and skills they need. They can also target students with profiles that match their needs, all on a secure platform that protects students.

Community members can serve as pre-screened mentors to offer real-time career advice and answer students’ questions about the real world of work.

Where do I access Inspire? Participating in Inspire is easy! To access and register your business on this cloud-based platform, visit Centergy’s website to enter Inspire’s employer portal at http://www.centergy.net/workforce/inspire_employers.htm. Upon selecting a username and password, you’ll begin to establish your company profile. The company profile can describe your business, highlight unique attributes, and communicate areas of need to future employees. Upon completion of the company profile section, career coach profile, submittal and approval of a background check, you are now ready to receive and answer communications on your company message board. The message board is monitored by administrators to ensure a safe environment.

I’m Inspired but need some assistance! Have no fear, help is always available. MACCI’s workforce development director Karen Isaacson has attended training sessions, set up a company profile and is now a career coach. She will also be the Inspire Administrator for the Marshfield area businesses. Contact her at (715) 384-3454 or email [email protected] for more information.

Inspire is set to go live in the school districts on October 1, 2017. Therefore, don’t wait to get your company registered or you may be missing out on connecting with your future workforce!

Answer: October 20, 2017

Answer: Generally, businesses experience four stages: start-up, growth, maturity, and decline.

Start-ups are businesses that have recently come into existence. Before revenues are generated, businesses in the start-up stage generally require a large investment of time, effort, energy, and money to create a stable customer base, buy inventory, and engage in other business activities. The start-up stage is generally characterized by innovation, high risk, and low profit margins.

Businesses in the growth phase can often function using their own limited resources. Ideally, during this stage, consumer demand is established and increases. Additional help is often needed in production, manufacturing, general operations, or sales in order to continue growing. The company typically experiences increasing sales and profit margins as a market is established.

Mature firms have achieved a certain amount of name recognition. Contacts are well established, sales require less effort, the business produces a reliable stream of cash, and borrowing becomes easier. At this point, intensive marketing may be needed to increase or maintain market position, and little product innovation occurs. Profit margins tend to stabilize.

Businesses in the declining phase tend to experience a shrinking market. There is usually no product innovation, costs are cut to preserve profits, and the profits that remain are usually thin. The time it takes to reach or to pass through each stage varies by business. It is important that you properly identify the life-cycle stage of your business so that you can plan appropriately and establish realistic goals for the future.
