Installing BBx19 BASIS has changed the way that (V)PRO/5 19 is installed. You will no longer get an executable file (Windows) or a compressed tar file (Linux). Instead, regardless of Operating System, you will recieve a Java Archive (jar) file. Below are instructions to install BBx19 – regardless of Operating System. Step 1) Download the JDK (Java Development Kit) As the installer is now Java based, you'll need to install a JDK. To do so, go to the OpenJDK Website and click on the link to Download the current version of JAVA (screenshot shows version 13).

The Mark Twain

Croaker

Dear Parents,

Thanksgiving is almost here, and we have many things to be thankful for this fall season. Mark Twain Elementary is grateful to have your continued support for our students and school. Our staff is continuing to work diligently to increase student achievement and academic growth. We thank you for making every effort to have your child at school every day and on time.

Good student attendance is always important. Much learning time is lost when students are absent from school. It is our school goal every day for student attendance to be at least 95%. We ask that you help us maintain a daily percentage rate of 95% or better. You can continue to help us with this support by having your child at school on time and ready for learning every day.

I would like to make parents aware of a great opportunity. A presentation about digital footprints and internet safety for children and families will take place on Thursday, November 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the Duncan Middle School gym. All parents are invited to this informative presentation offered by the Duncan Police Department.

Please remember that Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 23. This year we will be off an entire week from school! There will be NO SCHOOL Monday, November 20, through Friday, November 24.

Students should bring a backpack to school every day. Important papers and Monday folders are sent home in students’ backpacks.

As colder weather begins, please don’t forget to send your child with weather appropriate clothing and a jacket.

Please make sure to label all coats, sweaters, hats, and gloves with your child’s name.

We have a LOST and FOUND box located by the milk box by the office. The LOST and FOUND box is green in color. If your child is missing items such as a lunchbox, backpack, or jacket, please check the LOST and FOUND box. Sometimes, teachers will place items on the stage for a day or 2 before items are placed in the LOST and FOUND box.

It is our goal to continue to improve student attendance at Mark Twain Elementary. Students with perfect attendance each month are rewarded as their name is placed in a drawing to receive incentives for being at school. The names of students included in the drawings are included in a larger drawing held later in the year to receive additional incentives for good school attendance. Please keep up the good work and strive to be at school every day! Being at school is important!! After all, if a student misses one day of school, that is 7 hours of school instructional time lost. Please remember if you are late for school, you must also check your child in through the office. Thank you for all you do to help us accomplish our attendance goals!

Page 2

Please help us improve our attendance records! We ask that appointments for

students be made after school to avoid early release. If you have to schedule

an appointment during school hours, please speak with your child’s teacher

and ask the best time so that your child does not miss important instructional

time.

Croaker Cartoons

We invite all students to participate in our monthly

Croaker Cartoons. Students can draw a frog picture (in

black and white) to be submitted by the 1st day of each month to Mrs. Harris.

Our Cherrydale Farms Fundraiser is over, and PTO would like to thank everyone for allowing students to participate in this fundraiser. PTO appreciates your support!

The Library Book Fair Family Night was held on November 2nd. We had a nice turn out of approximately 100 visitors. Thank you for your support and parental involvement! We had a great time with the artist, Dovie Punneo. We would like to extend a great big thank you to Dovie, Walmart, our Rock On Duncan community friends, our middle school and high school volunteers, and the Chisholm Trail Arts Council for sharing your talents, time, and donations to our family event. It was awesome!

We are enjoying eating lots of popcorn and pickles at our Hop Shops. Our next Hop Shop dates will be on November 10th and December 8th.

The T-shirt orders/fundraiser ended the week of October 30-November 3rd. The shirts should be received in time for Christmas.

We would like to offer Candy Grams for sale during the month of December. A Candy Gram is similar to a Christmas card with a small piece of candy inside. In order to offer Candy Grams, candy donations by parents will be necessary. We would like to ask students in Grades K-2 to donate a box of candy canes and students in Grades 3-5 to donate a bag of wrapped chocolates. If you can support our PTO by donating an item listed, please send to your child’s teacher. Due to allergies, we ask that you please not send any items containing peanuts. Candy Grams will be available for purchase in the gym before school starts in the morning the last full week before we leave for Winter Break—December 11-15. The cost to purchase a Candy Gram is 25 cents. Students can buy Candy Grams to send to friends, teachers, etc., or they can buy them to take home for family members. Candy Grams will be delivered to classes. Candy Grams are an easy way to support our PTO and they are fun for students to give to others. As always, we appreciate your support of our PTO. Your support in turn goes to support our Mark Twain students! Please don’t forget to continue to collect Box Tops for Education. You may send them to school to give to your child’s teacher any time. Thank you! If you signed up to help with Box Tops, you will be contacted in December to help organize our Box Tops collected to date. The class collecting the most Box Tops will receive a movie and popcorn party from PTO before Christmas break!
