Dear Friends: The fourth quarter of the calendar year has started off with a bang at St. Paul’s and is destined to remain so for the rest of the year.

From the Rector

Then Jesus said to the crowd, “Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses

who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life.” (Jn 6:32-35a)

As Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” (Mat 4:18-19)

Continued from page 1 November includes the feasts of All Saints’ Day (Nov 1), Christ the King (Nov 24), Thanksgiving Day (Nov 28), and St. Andrew the Apostle (Nov 30). Please note that Nancy and I will be away the first half of November, so we will leave you in the capable hands of the Revs. Jim Bullion and Nick Roosevelt to worship with you on Sundays and Wednesdays. Fr. Jim will be our Celebrant on All Saints’ Sunday (Nov3) and on Nov 10, and we will recognize Thanksgiving and of St. Andrew on the adjacent Sundays late in the month. Our text this month quotes from the assigned gospel passages for Thanksgiving Day and for St. Andrew the Apostle. The passage from John is evergreen; there is no “season” for being grateful or giving thanks, rather it is what we do every day of the year. Our Pledge Campaign begun in September is a way that The Episcopal Church has used for 200+ years to catalyze our giving of treasure to kingdom work, and it thrives when we accept that all we are, all we have, all the time are from God. The Matthean passage for St. Andrew is from Jesus’ calling of the twelve disciples near the beginning of his earthly ministry. Then and now, we are called to “proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ,” and by doing so we fish for people. This month of November, please remember:

Youth Sunday 2019

• Ladles of Love operates every Thursday 11:00-12:00, although volunteers are needed before and after the serving hour. Contact Carolyn Hatcher to take part ([email protected]). • Thu, Nov 7 at 5:30pm-Episcochicks—at Debbie Richardson’s home • Nov 14-16, Diocese of GA—Annual Convention-Statesboro • Sat, Nov 16– Barney’s Run—Marine Corp Logistics Base-Albany • Wed, Nov 20 at 5:30pm—Catered supper, N.T. Wright and Surprised by Hope, and Compline.

Andrew labored as a disciple of Jesus in the shadow of other disciples. He was not in the inner circle of Peter, James, and John; and he is more often known for being the brother of Simon Peter than for being the first missionary in the company of disciples. It was Andrew who first brought Peter his brother to Jesus. Andrew was also the disciple who brought the boy with loaves and fishes to Jesus at the feeding of the 5000. None of us has to enjoy prominence to live in gratitude, to give with joy, or to bring others to Christ.

Faithfully, Fr. Reed+
