It will be fun for all
Family STEM Night is coming
And we want you there
To build towers that touch the sky
Do you want to build a robot?
Yes, we’re seriously building robots
Come on by….
Our Family STEM Night is this Thursday, November 10th, from 6:30-8:00. Your whole family
is invited to participate in STEM Activities. Please join us!
If you are asking, “Why STEM and why does it matter?”
Here are some numbers that illustrate the answer….

The St. Barnabas School can food drive officially begins this Monday 10/31. In fact, our first pickup date was today (Hunger Inc.). The other pickup dates are Thursday 11/10 (Little Sisters of the Poor), Wednesday 11/16 (Anna's House) and Tuesday 11/22 (St. Vincent de Paul).
Please, for the sake of all those who hunger in our community, encourage your children to bring in as many cans as possible. Our school goal is 10,000 cans. That's roughly 20 cans per student. Last year our school was able to collect over 13,000 cans. We are confident that we can achieve our goal again this year and perhaps beat last year's total.
Come up with some age-appropriate ways to collect as many cans as possible (i.e. sacrificing some allowance money, taking time to ask grand-parents/neighbors, sacrificing their Dominos pizza Friday night and using that money to buy cans, sacrificing their DQ this weekend, collecting cans instead of candy Monday night. Anything that promotes self-sacrifice can really serve as a valuable lesson for the students when providing for those less fortunate.

38 Percentage of students who start with STEM majors but do not graduate with one. (Source National Math and Science Initiative) “All young people should be prepared to think deeply and to think well so that they have the chance to become the innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and our world, both today and tomorrow. But, right now, not enough of our youth have access to quality STEM learning opportunities and too few students see these disciplines as springboards for their careers.” (ed.gov/stem) St. Barnabas is working to be sure our students are ready for their future! Come help us make STEM come alive! See you November 10th at our Family STEM Night! God bless, Carissa Maddox, Proud Principal

Parent Information Session: Keeping Kids Safe in a Technology Driven World
Presenter: Katie Greer http://www.klgreer.com/
When: November 9th @ 7:00PM
Where: Roncalli Auditorium
Roncalli, Cathedral and Lutheran High School have combined to bring a respected expert to Indianapolis to speak with our students about Internet and social media safety. Katie Greer will speak at all three schools on Nov.9, 2016 and then conclude with a parent assembly at Roncalli High School at 7 PM in the fine arts auditorium (enter through door #5). Parents from all three schools and surrounding schools are encouraged to attend.
WHAT? What can I do to protect them? What apps should I be worried about? Is social networking safe? Is my child being cyber bullied? What’s texting? Sexting? What’s next? It’s often overwhelming being a parent today in our technology-driven society. Keeping up with the latest trends and dangers can often seem like an impossible task. Katie will help parents and other interested adults navigate the digital waters and provide information about what’s new, what’s now, and what’s next when it comes to your children and technolo-gy. Most importantly, she will provide all with proactive initiatives to keep kids safe.
The following topics will be covered during this session:
Updates on the latest technology trends and dangers Social networking
Healthy usage of devices and social media How to make technology and social media work for you not against you
Digital Tattoos Interactive gaming: Tips for safe gaming
Cell phones/smartphones/devices
Cyberbullying laws and legislation Overview of what message Katie sends to students
We are delighted to announce that we have had four more RHS seniors record a perfect score on either the SAT or ACT. Congratulations to our latest scholars to join the ACT/SAT All Star list: Devin Boehm/St. Jude (English ACT); Drew Gorball/St. Roch (Reading ACT); Amy Yohler (Reading ACT)/St. Jude and a special congratulations to Michael Otley/St. Barnabas as he becomes our third student ever to register a perfect score on the ACT Com-posite. He registered a perfect 36 on the Math, English and Reading which led to his perfect 36 Composite score. The ACT issued a specific release saying this accomplishment is achieved by less than one-tenth of 1 percent who take the ACT. Great job to all of these Rebels and congratulations as well to their families, their grade schools and their teachers here at Roncalli!
Test begins at 8:00 AM; students should arrive by 7:45 and enter through Door #5 (Auditorium) or Door #10 (LaSalle Street).
There is no pre-registration for this test.
Test will end at approximately 11:15 AM There is a $10 fee to cover the cost of the test; the student should bring this with them to the test (Cash
or check payable to Roncalli High School). Calculators are not allowed (Unless stated on an IEP/ISP). Student should bring two #2 pencils.
Results will be mailed home by the end of November
Parents are also strongly encouraged to attend an Admissions Information meeting on the morning of the High School Placement Test from 10:00 – 11:15 AM in the Roncalli Auditorium.
