Prelude For All the Saints arr. Wagner
Chiming of the Hour
Welcome
Introit
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild: Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. (hymn 14)
*Call to Worship (from Psalm 34)
O taste and see that the Lord is good; Happy are those who take refuge in God. With hearts and hands and voices, Let us praise the living God who was, and is, and is to come.
*Hymn 4 Holy God, We Praise Your Name
*Invitation to Confession
*Prayer of Confession
(time for silent confession)
God of our forbears, we give thanks for all the saints who fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. At the same time, we confess our tendency to rest on those successes. We fall short of continuing to serve those around us. The hungry remain hungry, the homeless remain homeless, the estranged remain estranged. Forgive us, O God. As we celebrate the past, help us to surge forward into the future in service to you; through Jesus Christ our
Lord we pray. Amen.
*Assurance of Forgiveness
*The Peace of Christ
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.

*Affirmation of Faith (from A Brief Statement of Faith)
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” Amen.
Anthem What Do I Know? Groves (see insert)
The Sacrament of Holy Communion Invitation to the Lord’s Table Great Prayer of Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Gracious and Holy God, you created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. … all glory and honor are yours, one God forever and ever.. Amen.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Prayer after Communion We give you thanks, gracious God, for the nourishment we have received at this table. May it sustain us in all that we do to show forth your justice, mercy, compassion, and love; through Christ we pray. Amen.

WORSHIP NOTES
We are observing All Saints today. The official
day, Nov. 1, is a Christian festival celebrated in
honor of all the saints, known and unknown. The
day as we know it can be traced back to the 700s.
While we remember and give thanks for those
who have died over the past year, the emphasis is
on the ongoing sanctification of the whole people
of God—including you and me!
The hymn we are singing during A Time with the
Children picks up on this theme. As a mother of
three small children, Lesbia Scott frequently
created hymns for them on various topics such as
a picnic or a foggy day. I Sing a Song of the Saints
of God (hymn 730) was written for All Saints' Day
to emphasize that many saints led seemingly
ordinary lives and that there are saints living
among us today. And, most tellingly, each stanza
ends with an affirmation of the singer's intent to
'be one too.'
