    November 2013

The month of October included several ribbon-cuttings, a Business AfHours at St. Joan of Arc and luncheon featuring State Senator MichaeConnelly. We traveled to Glen Ellyn for the Luis Arturo Dance Acadribbon-cutting. It was picked up by the press in Glen Ellyn and made tfront page of their local Suburban Life newspaper. Luis and Veronika great hosts for the event which included dance demonstrations, awardssented by Mayor Broda from a recent contest, the ribbon-cutting and fand beverages, followed by open dancing.

Senator Connellys talk was very informative and entertaining as he gave us an updatelegislation pending in Springfield and other matters to come before them at the fall vet

session. We are very fortunate to have Senator Connelly as one of our representatives.leadership has brought forth many improvements for our area.

The St. Joan of Arc Business After Hours was enjoyable as the staff and Fr. Gabriel aSister Carolyn made us feel very much at home. Julie LaFond is the representative for Joan who also was a great hostess. The food, beverages, and hospitality were excellent

Connie Walsh owner of Walsh Financial assisted by Harriet Roseprovided a ribboncutting on Oct. 24th. It was a cold evening which seemed to affect the attendance. They

provided a wonderful buffet of food and we thank them for the great hospitality.

Once again we had a fantastic response to Trick or Treat in Downtown Lisle. Over 800ghosts, goblins, and super heroes visited to obtain treats from the business owners. Theweather was good and a great time was had by all. Thanks to the downtown businessesyour generosity.

With November on the horizon we have a couple of significant events. There will be abreakfast on Corporate Social Responsibility on November 13that Wheatstack. A greapanel has been assembled to provide information on their programs. Our luncheon on 21st will be a very informative presentation on customer service provided by Wallace His programs have had rave reviews at other nearby chambers so we look forward to alearning experience. The Business After Hours will be at the West Suburban CommuPantryon November 20th. You wont want to miss this multi-chamber event.

Congratulations to Paula Gleason and Rob Salerno for being appointed to the Lisle

The changing colors of the season bring a welcome feeling of fall athe days get shorter and the nights get colder; and we commit to encoage the spirit of thankfulness throughout the Thanksgiving holiday se

son. This is a good time to consider all the good things we have beenblessed with. We live in the United States and enjoy freedoms that dnot exist in many countries of the world. In this land of plenty, weshould not lose sight of the fact that even while we live in DuPageCounty, one of the wealthiest areas in the world, there are many indivuals struggling to support their families. What better time to choose acharity of your choice, and if you are able, commit to make a contribution. The Chamber has many not for profit charity members who c

direct your contribution where it will be used best.

A very large thank you is extended to Bill Kuglich, who facilitated the Board of Directors Strtegic Planning meeting and complimentary lunch at Molex on October 16th, as always, a very

    hospitable host!

Other Chamber October events included two Lisle Executive Networking Group luncheons ana Women in Business lunch focusing on Linkedn information. Ribbon cutting and grand opeing of Luis Arturo Dance Academy in Glen Ellyn was a very festive event with a presentationdelicious food, drinks and entertaining dance routines by award-winning students, who werepresented with their awards by Mayor Broda. A quite successful Business After Hours washosted by St Joan of Arc providing us all with more appetizing food. Amongst all this was ougeneral membership luncheon featuring Senator Michael Connelly with updates on SpringfielAnother ribbon-cutting at Walsh Financial in their new Lisle location, complete with an arraydelectable food and drinks. Halloween trick-or-treating in downtown on Main Street was an

overwhelming success, including individual and group photos by Robert Kelly Studio.

We are very happy to welcome Costco, Piccolo Fiore Designs, Dr.Todd Martin, Naperville B& Trust, Ron Sandek, Zanos Hair Design, Baird & Warner, Beer Dogging, The BOMC, Runners 4 Wellness and Blend Beauty to the Lisle Chamber and anticipate their continued involv

ment and commitment to Chamber networking events.

Save the date of February 7, 2014 for the annual Dancing with the Chamber Stars

Dinner Dance to be held at the Lisle Hilton Hotel. The underlying theme will be Luau in Lisland the committee has already secured six professional dance instructors and confirmed five o

the six Chamber dancers. Sure to be fun!

As my term as your Chairman is winding down, I recall that over the last ten months I have dicussed not only the mission of the Chamber but also how the Chamber is committed to provid

opportunities to grow your business with integrity and honesty.

At the recent Board of Directors Strategic Planning workshop, the primary focus was to devela Vision, Mission and Action Plan for 2014. The Chamber vision statement is: To advocate business and the revised Chamber mission statement is: To facilitate, advocate and cultivateopportunities for the Lisle area business communities. As we move into 2014, the Board ofDirectors continues to Build a Foundation of Commitment and intends to develop a standardoperating procedure and a marketing plan that will add value to your membership; this is sche

    uled for presentation in February.

Best wishes for a comfortable and happy Thanksgiving!
