November 2012 NORTH VALLEY SDA Give Thanks To God The Lord Give thanks to God the Lord; upon His Name now call. Make known among the people on earth what He has done for all. Sing praise to Him, now sing; His wondrous acts proclaim. Rejoice, all you who seek the Lord; come glory in His Name. Look to the Lord’s great strength; remember all His deeds. His judgments are in all of the earth; He is the Lord indeed. His covenant e’er will stand; His oath He’ll ne’er forget. A thousand generations pass; God’s word continues yet. Sing to the Lord, all earth; His saving power proclaim. Declare His glory to every race; His marvelous deeds now name. For great is God the Lord, most worthy of all praise. He made the heavens and the earth; fear Him and give Him praise. Splendor and majesty before the Lord are found. Both strength and joy with Him do dwell; bring offerings, come bow down. Ascribe unto the Lord the glory due His Name; The splendor of His holiness now worship and proclaim. Let now the heavens rejoice; let earth give glad refrain. The world is established, never to be moved; tell everyone God reigns! Now let the sea resound, be jubilant all fields; The forest trees will sing for joy; earth’s Judge is now revealed. Give thanks to God the Lord; His goodness now declare. He saves, delivers from every foe; His love endures forever. Give thanks unto His Name and glory in His praise; Praise to the God of Israel for everlasting days. Unknown Author

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15 (NASB)

I was twenty-four years old the f irst t ime I was asked to preach at church. Considering the verse above, that may sound l ike a decent start to an inspir ing spir i tual success story! However, the opposite is actual ly true. When asked if I would preach I didn’t even hesitate in responding with an emphatic “No!” I was completely convinced of the fol lowing three things. First, I wouldn’t do a good job. Second, I had nothing new or important to say. Third, someone else would do a better job.Two days later I was driving from Tucson to Phoenix, AZ, when I bel ieve an angel asked me “Are you a Christ ian?” My response was probably the same as what yours would be. “Of course I’m a Christ ian!” Moments later the penetrating reply came. “Then why don’t you want to share that with the world?”I felt l ike I had taken a dagger to the heart. God h ad c l e a r l y o p ened a d oo r f o r me t o a c t u a l l y “wa l k t h e t a l k ” r a t h e r t h an j u s t b e i n g a s p e c t a t o r C h r i s t i a n… and I s a i d “No!” I wa s t o o f o c u s ed on my se l f , my d e s i r e s a nd my f e a r s , i n s t e ad o f l e t t i n g God l e a d i n my l i fe.

Needless to say, this conversation with the angel convicted me of my mistake. I cal led the pastor back to tel l him that I had a change of heart, l i teral ly, and that I would be wil l ing to preach after al l . Unfortunately in the meantime he had found someone else. It was two-and-a-half years later before I was asked to preach again!I bel ieve that many of us fal l into the category of “spectator Christ ians.” Thankful ly God is in the business of giving second chances! There are so many needs and opportunit ies both inside and outside our church. With the 2013 calendar year fast approaching this is a great t ime to prayerful ly accept responsibi l i t ies and be more active in the work of our church. We need to remember Mark 16:15 and share the Good News of God’s love with everyone around us.Your restraints are probably no different than mine were. If you fear that you wouldn’t do a good job then consider Genesis 26:24. God says, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” If you think you have nothing to say read Exodus 4:10-12. “Now go; I wil l help you speak and wil l teach you what to say.” If you bel ieve that someone else would do a better job then don’t forget Luke 19:40. “I tel l you,” he repl ied, “if they keep quiet, the stones wil l cry out.”What is God cal l ing you to do? What should your answer be? The Bible clearly tel ls us who wil l win the batt le between good and evi l. God wil l get His work done. The only question that remains is whether you and I wil l be a part of that work.

May Jesus live in you every day and may you shine—all the time!

Live the Life, James Pate

The Prayer Team would like to remind every one that there is an opportunity for prayer every Sabbath at 9:00 am at the front of the sanctuary. This is a time to prepare your heart for the Sabbath and lay the week that is behind you to rest.

there were no reports from Women’s Ministries, Personal Ministries, or Worship Committee.

There is also an opportunity for group intercessory prayer every Sabbath evening to close the Sabbath. We also sing hymns, praise the Lord in prayer and have a scripture reading. Any and all prayer warriors are welcome and needed. This is truly a blessing to those who attend. Many prayers have been answered. Due to the shorter days and earlier sunset, Saturday evening prayer group will change it’s meeting time from 6:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Thanksgiving Basket Fund raiser was a great success on September 30th, where a spaghetti dinner was hosted by NVSDA Community Services and the Social Committee. For only $5, each patron enjoyed salad, spaghetti, garlic bread, and various desserts/drinks made by volunteers. In addition to the fellowship of the meal, there were also plenty of recreational options —from a bouncy house to beanbag tossing, volleyball, and baseball. The Spaghetti Dinner raised over $300, with 100% of the proceeds being used for funding Thanksgiving food baskets. Thank you to all the volunteers, donors, and those who came out to support the fund raiser. The Spaghetti Dinner fund raiser represents a big step in gathering needed resources, and there is much work left to be done. The full cost of funding all of the Thanksgiving baskets this year is estimated at around $1,200. Please prayerfully consider making a monetary and/or nonperishable food item donation to the Food Pantry to help with this ministry. If you know of any individuals or families in need of a Thanksgiving basket, please submit the information to Stephanie Bacchus or Judy Marshall by November 10. Thank you!

Due to conflicting schedules the baby shower for Beth Long has been changed to November

10th at 6:30 p.m. Beth is having a boy.

Social committee is hosting Bowling Day at Hill Top Lanes November 11th at 2:00 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, which includes the cost of shoe rental.
