1-180 St. Thomas of Villanova MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST June 22, 2014 Novena Honoring the Body and Blood of Christ I thank you, Jesus, my Divine Redeemer, for coming upon the earth for our sake, and for instituting the adorable Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist in order to remain with us until the end of the world. I thank You for hiding beneath the Eucharist species Your infinite majesty and beauty, which Your Angels delight to behold, so that I might have courage to approach the throne of Your Mercy. I thank You, most loving Jesus for having made Yourself my food, and for uniting me to Yourself With so much love in this wonderful Sacrament that I may live in You. I thank You, my Jesus, for giving Yourself to me in this Blessed Sacrament and so enriching it with treasures of Your love that You have no greater gift to give me. I thank You not only for becoming my food but also for offering Yourself as a continual sacrifice to Your Eternal Father for my salvation. I thank You, Divine Priest, for offering Yourself as a Sacrifice daily upon our altars in adoration and homage to the Most Blessed Trinity, and for making amends for our poor and miserable adorations. I thank You for renewing in this daily Sacrifice the actual Sacrifice of the cross offered on Calvary, in which You satisfy Divine justice for us poor sinners. I thank You, dear Jesus, for having become the priceless Victim to merit for me the fullness of heavenly favors. Awaken in me such confidence in You that their fullness may descend ever more fruitfully upon my soul. I thank You for offering Yourself in thanksgiving to God for all His benefits, spiritual and temporal, which He has bestowed upon me. In union with Your offering of Yourself to Your Father in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, I ask for this special favor: (Mention your request.) If it be Your holy Will, grant my request. Through You I also hope to receive the grace of perseverance in Your Love and faithful service, a holy death, and a happy eternity with You in Heaven. Amen. IMPORTANT NOTICE! Running through early August, Villanova University will be undertaking a construction project – the laying of chilled water underground piping – that ultimately, among other things, will assist in the updating of air conditioning for the Villanova Church. For the remainder of the project, from June 16 th through early August, the Fedigan Gate will remain open for access to the Church – but, again, follow the instructions of the guards and any signs that may be posted. In addition, we will have a link on our parish website to maps detailing the various phases of the project. As always, remember that the preferred primary option for Church parking is the lot directly across Lancaster Avenue. The only parishioners coming onto campus for Sunday Mass or other services should be those with different mobility needs. Please keep this in mind, especially during the project, and be respectful of the parking for Augustinian residents around the Monastery. Thank you for your cooperation! Fr. Joe

Stewardship Thought for the Week “Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10:17 As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves a twofold purpose. One, it helps build God’s kingdom here on earth. Two, it is a road map to Heaven. Let’s help each other get there!

“Masses in Interpreted American Sign Language” Although we usually have an American Sign Language Interpreter at the 9:00am Mass in the Rosemont Chapel on the Second and Fourth Sunday of each month. The interpreter is unable to be here during June, July and August. The Masses with an interpreter will resume in September. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Share the Harvest

Our parish has the opportunity to help needy individuals in the area this summer by donating fresh fruits and vegetables to ElderNet of Lower Merion. Whether you have a large garden, or just a sunny spot in your yard, consider adding a few extra plants (tomatoes, beans, peppers, etc.) to contribute to this worthy cause...OR, buy a few extra apples, oranges or other fruit when you do grocery shopping — what better way to set a Christian example for your children or grandchildren than to grow and/or share nutritious food with those who are less fortunate. Can you help or do you have questions, contact the Gollins at [email protected].

June 22, 2014 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Our participation in the Peter’s Pence Collection gives us an opportunity to be a witness of charity to our brothers and sisters around the world. Gifts to this annual collection help the Holy Father support victims of war, natural disasters, and other most in need of assistance. On Easter Sunday 2013, Pope Francis encouraged each person to be a witness of charity. He said, “Let us be renewed by God’s mercy...and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation, and make justice and peace flourish.” Pope Francis has continued to remind us through his actions that we must serve our brothers and sisters in order to be true disciples of Christ. This special appeal gives us the opportunity to be pilgrims of charity around the world. This year the Peter’s Pence Collection will be taken at all Masses on the weekend of June 28 and 29, 2014. Gratefully and with best wishes in Jesus Christ, Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. Archbishop of Philadelphia

May 29, 2014 Dear Little Parishioners who made T-Shirts for Water for Waslala: On behalf of Water for Waslala’s Board of Directors and our beneficiaries in Waslala, please express my sincere and enthusiastic thanks to the children and volunteers of the 2014 Martin Luther King Day of Service. The shirts which you so caringly decorated for the children of Waslala have safely arrived and are you absolutely incredible! I was taken aback when I opened the box as it is clear that a great deal of time and hard work went into this project. It will be my honor to deliver the shirts to the people of Nicaragua when I return there next month. I have no doubt that the recipients will recognize immediately the love and compassion that went into preparing this gift. Best Wishes, Kevin Kelly Executive Director

DO YOU KNOW

YOUR

TRIBUNAL?

The Tribunal is a group of specially qualified Catholics whose responsibility is to come to the help of people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. One is the unbreakableness of the bond of marriage. This is God’s law. It cannot be broken by human intervention. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Was this a true marriage? Even though a Catholic marriage was celebrated, was there perhaps some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved? The annulment procedure addresses this problem. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please telephone the Tribunal Office.
