MMJ Competitive Assessment Major insurers won’t cover medical marijuana space for at least the next 5 years, leaving

Novus the market share of a national consumer base of close to 23 million patients

MMJ is not approved by the FDA, and that approval depends on clinical studies conducted within the U.S. that measure efficacy, safety, effectiveness and side effects. If cannabis was legalized by the federal government today, it would take 3 years of studies for the FDA to catch up on the medicinal benefits of medical marijuana

Major carriers don’t want to jeopardize their lucrative federal agreements with Medicare and Medicaid that can reach into the billions of dollars annually

The barriers of entry for other competitors who have come into the healthcare insurance (risk and non risk) have not made an impact that Novus has made primarily due to restrictions on marketing and advertising of cannabis in respective states

Despite the DEA’s no action to re-schedule cannabis, it has little or no effect on the state laws. In fact it will increase the price on marijuana meds to the consumer giving Novus the advantage over recreational classification

Novus Insurance ModelCharlotte’s Web CBD: An agreement that put Novus in the forefront was the contractual agreement with the makers of Charlotte’s Web a CBD by the Stanley Brothers. This accomplishment was largely contributed in 2014 when parents lobbying for the use of cannabis-derived Cannabidiol (CBD non psychoactive), orally administered oil for treatment of seizures, gained a lot of traction in the United States. This windfall put Novus in a position to execute an agreement for CBD products with the Stanley Brothers (CW Botanicals and their nonprofit, Realm of Caring) where Novus has an exclusive 65% discount for our patient/members for the “Advance Clinical Formula”, as well as a 30% discount of the “Consumer Formula.”

* Above chart demonstrates he average purchase for medical marijuana by consumers is a minimum $300 per month for CBD and THC based meds.

Novus Diverse Insurance Lines

MMJ Property and Casualty: with a hand full of underwriters in the marketplace, this leaves cultivators, manufactures, labs, distributors, dispensaries and delivery services paying substantially higher premiums on coverage plans, which are anticipated to continue rising in the coming months. With Novus’ recent approval, in California, to write coverage for P&C and Excess Surplus in the MMJ market with competitive pricing with the other carriers within the marketplace. Thus gaining a business relationship that transcend into procuring more of a patient base from dispensaries

Data Breach and Ransomware Coverage: Aside of General Liability and other mainstream insurance lines Novus has adopted this type of coverage. When security breaches happen the cost of forensic analysts and other security experts cost anywhere from $200,000 to $500,000 for companies that have revenues of $20 million or more. On top of managing and resolving actual threat that is increasing every day Novus is developing a encrypted software system that will be apart of the insurance coverage.

Novus Digital Marketing PlatformA major barrier of entry that is difficult to achieve for many cannabis related businesses is that each state has their own regulation on how to market medical marijuana. Along with Facebook ,Twitter and SnapChat, Terms of Service will not to allow direct advertising to for the sale of Federally illegal products.

ROI in marketing and advertising is important in profitable conversion ratios, initially, Novus’ marketing strategy was to use third party vendors. But many digital marketers knew very little about cannabis marketing compliance and ability to reach the right target audience. Previously Novus’ ROI from Click through to Engagement was $35.00 per conversion which would give a 90-120 day to profit per member.

After a few months of paying for non performing digital marketers with non effective tactical methods we brought the marketing efforts in house. Click through to Engagement is now $7.00 per conversion which give a 30 day to profit per member.

Methods being used is: Blogging, Social Networking, Digital Ad Placement and the most important generation of well targeted lists in B2B and B2C success.

Financials/ Valuation Assessment

Investorpedia writes: Most investors avoid trying to value financial firms due to their complicated nature. On the face of it, insurers run and manage investment portfolios. A couple of key metrics can be used to value insurance companies, and these metrics happen to be common to financial firms in general. Book value, which is simply Shareholder’s’ Equity on the balance sheet, is a solid measure of most of its balance sheet, that can be relied on for their value given an active market for them. Regulatory Compliance

One main area that gave management concerns is that:

Being public and operating under auspices of a federally controlled substance, and/or;

Being construed as a facilitator to put buyer and seller together of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance

Novus overcame this obstacle by hiring the top marijuana law firm in the country Vicente Sederberg, this firm help construct the laws and ordinances in many states where cannabis is legal. They reviewed our business model and wrote Letters of Opinion in relation to the risk and non risk insurance plans. And today we are operating with confidence.
