2.1 NPA/RNO Migration to NPOThe B9 NPA and B9 RNO databases can be migrated to the NPO database inorder to save data from NPA/RNO into NPO database.

2.2 Cluster ConfigurationThe 9953 MP 24000 cluster hardware configuration is based on two V490servers (nodes) that cooperate as a single system. Based on Oracle RealApplication Clusters (RAC) it is deployed to improve performances providedby a single computer. The connection between the nodes is provided usinga public network and a second private network. Oracle RAC requires also avirtual IP address for each server in the cluster on the same subnet as LAN,used by applications to connect to the RAC database. The shared storage isassured by a Fiber Channel Switch required in the cluster configuration.

2.3 QoS AnalysisThe NPO collects periodical measurements of the radio traffic, radio resourceusage, and handover behavior from the network elements through the declaredOMC-Rs. These measurements serve the quality of service monitoring at theNPO, and back-office activities such as network optimization and networkplanning.

The user can create their own counters and indicators, and customize systemones. They can then be analysed in QoS reports. Special functions allowidentification of the worst or best cells related to a QoS indicator, to get reportson the QoS evolution, and to compare the service quality of different cells.Comparing QoS indicator values with predefined thresholds, the NPO ensuresrapid verification of the quality of service in each single cell.

For more information, refer to Counters and Indicators in the NPO User Guide .

2.4 Create and Execute ReportsThe NPO operator can view the results of QoS analysis in the form of reportsfor a selected set of network resources and the defined report period

They contain both tables and graphs (several functions graphically displayedsimultaneously). The customer can also customize reports, for an easieradaptation to their needs.

For more information, refer to Reports in the NPO User Guide .

2.5 Reference ValuesReference values are recommended values of parameters. They allow aquick audit of the network and permit the operator to detect which objects donot follow recommendations for parameter values. The reference valuesfor a parameter depend on different criteria, such as cell type, cell class, frequency, BTS type, etc.

NPO is delivered with a default set of reference values but they can becustomized.

For more information, refer to Reference Values in the NPO User Guide .

2.6 EventsEvents show when the key information of a cell has changed. There is adifferent event per type of parameter (identifier, BSC, frequency, etc.) ortopology change (for example, Move BTS). The event can be displayed inreports or in a dedicated tabular viewer.

For more information, refer to Events in the NPO User Guide .

2.7 RulesRules are Excel files that express the dependency between two or moreparameters of a given object, and are stored in the Oracle database.

Conditions and expressions regarding other parameters are defined inside therule, indicating when a rule is applicable.

For more information, refer to Rules in the NPO User Guide .

2.8 DiagnosisNPO is used to investigate and diagnose QoS problems. Depending on theraised problem, it proposes some corrective actions and/or extra investigations.

In order to benefit directly from any optimizers field experience, NPO allowsintegration of new diagnosis scenarios. Therefore, the network optimizer canrely on the diagnosis rules supplied by Alcatel-Lucent, but also on the onesderived from their own optimization experience.

Whenever a QoS indicator reaches its alert threshold, NPO offers thediagnosis feature to the optimizer, in order to find out the possible cause ofthe QoS degradation.

For more information about the diagnosis scenario creation and diagnosiseditor, refer to the NPO Diagnosis Development Guide .

For more information about the diagnosis scenario execution and scheduling, refer to Diagnosis in the NPO User Guide .

2.9 FavoritesFavorites provide a shortcut to select the indicator or report (similar to the bestof in RNO). Each operator can save favorites.

For more information, refer to Favorites in the NPO User Guide .

2.10 Post-Its (Comments)This feature allows the operator to add comments on network object andfunctions. Comments are shared between operators.

For more information, refer to Post-Its in the NPO User Guide .

2.11 Cell Class EditorThis feature allows the operator to change the cell class of a cell compared tothe cell class imported from RNP. The user can create a new cell class thatinherits its characteristics from the system defined cell class.

For more information, refer to Network Object Class in the NPO User Guide .

2.12 TuningAfter a network optimization session is completed, a radio parameter tuning isperformed using NPO. This is done in order to correct network misbehaviorand uses monitoring, checking and diagnosis functions. The NPO user canprepare radio resource configuration modifications, frequency changes andneighborhood modification and apply them through the managed OMC-Rs.For more information, refer to Tuning in the NPO User Guide .

2.13 CartographyThe cartography feature allows the geographical display of cells, adjacencyand of other objects ( BSC, etc.) rasters and vector maps with the samecoordinate system, computed maps and network objects. The coordinates canbe imported from RNP data, operational data or data entered by the operator.

Thematic layers allow the user to visualize QoS information on the geographicalrepresentation. Its purpose is to color parts of the geographical representation, according to user requests on the QoS indicators, parameter values, analysisresults, etc.

The adjacencies analysis functionality, by the means of graphic tools, enableyou to view existing and forecasted adjacency additions and deletions for a cell, and decide whether you want to add the forecast to a tuning session.

For more information, refer to Cartography in the NPO User Guide .

2.14 Log VisualizationThe log visualization feature offers the basic features for handling the generatedlogs: viewing, filtering/sorting, importing/exporting, saving and purging.

For more information, refer to Manage Log Files in the 9953 MP/NPO Platform Administration Guide .

2.15 Export InterfacesNPO offers a public web interface called EQL , used to retrieve data throughexternal tools such as web-browsers (Mozilla, Internet Explorer ) orweb-enabled applications (Excel for instance). This can be done by executingqueries or report requests.

For more information on how to execute data query, execute report request, execute dynamic Excel page, and on global parameter export, refer to Export Interfaces in the NPO Export Interface .

2.16 AlertersAlerters are defined to detect QoS problems and generate QoS alarms in theOMC-R, on the basis of reported Performance Measurement data. They arecalculated from counters/indicators.

For more information, refer to Alerters in the NPO User Guide .
