Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA2) Overview

• Formative assessment for K-3 measuring student performance in oral reading fluency, reading engagement, and comprehension. Utilizes fiction and non-fiction.

• Grades 1-3 are assessed in September and May. Kindergarten students are assessed in January.

DRA-2 Questions to Consider• How can the DRA-2 shape instructional strategies,

particularly for students just below benchmark? For example, teachers are encouraged to use Running Records during Small Group Instruction between assessment periods.

• Evaluate staffing strategies: Are teachers the appropriate fit for the grade level? How are schools using evaluation data to coach 1st and 2nd grade teachers?
