Patch Installation Procedure

This document describes how to install a patch file on the NSR-1000 series (hereafter referred to as

NSR).There are two methods for installation, either by using the administration menu or via an FTP. The patchfile is provided by Sony, and the same one can be used for both methods. During installation, thesystem automatically shuts down and then reboots itself. Therefore, installation work should be doneduring the period when you can stop operation.It takes about 10 -15 minutes to complete installation. Follow the procedures below.

1 Using the Administration Menu

Preparation

Connect a monitor, USB keyboard and USB mouse to the NSR.NoteUse a general USB keyboard and USB mouse. The ones with special keys, buttons or sticks maynot work.

Save the patch file into the root directory of a USB memory device (Refer to Appendix-2) or DVD/CD.

Be sure to save one patch file into the memory device.NoteConfirm the NSR version in advance by clicking [Information] on the logon screen to prepare aproper patch file.(If you are already logged on to the NSR, you can display the logon screen byclicking at the top right of the Main screen and logging off from the dialog box that appears.)

- If the version of the patch file is equivalent or higher than that of NSR, installation is executed. Iflower, the message shown below is displayed and the patch file installation is suspended.

Procedures

1. When the system is not powered on, press the power switch on the front or rear panel of the NSR toturn it on.

If already logged on, click at the top right of the Main screen and log off from the dialog boxthat appears.

2. The logon screen appears. Enter the user name and password of the level 5 user (=administrator)level, and click [Administration Menu].

3. Insert the USB memory into any of the three USB connectors on the front of the NSR, or insert thedisc into the DVD/CD drive of the NSR.

4. Click [Patch Installation].

5. Select the media on which the patch file is stored from [Location] and select the patch file name from[Name]. Click [OK].

6. The following message appears. Click [Yes].

7. Wait for a while until the following screen appears. (This screen is kept displayed during installation.)It takes about 10 15 minutes to complete installation. Never turn off the power of NSR.

NoteIf no screen appears after a few minutes, confirm that the patch file is highlighted in Step 5, and click[OK] again.

8. At the completion of installation, the system reboots automatically itself.NoteIf the version of the patch file is lower than that of NSR, the message shown below is displayed andthe patch file installation is suspended.

9. Confirm that the software version is updated by clicking [Information] on the logon screen.

10. Remove the USB memory device from the USB connector, or remove the disc from the DVD/CDdrive.

11. There are cases where ERROR LED on the front panel and/or ERROR lamp on the Main screen islit. In this case, on the logon screen, enter the user name and password of the level 5 user(=administrator) level, log on to the NSR by clicking [Logon] and click ERROR lamp on the Mainscreen so that ERROR LED and ERROR lamp go off.

12. When the installation fails, the following message may appear on the screen after the systemreboots. In this case, please execute DOM Restore as the message indicates.

DOM XXX partition Check error.

Please press any key to start"DOM Menu" after reboot. Then,please execute "DOM Restore".

If you press any key on the above screen, the system will automatically reboot then appear DOMMenu as shown below. Please select the number of DOM Restore then press Enter key toexecute. DOM Menu will appear again after finishing DOM Restore and please select thenumber of Reboot the system then press Enter key to restart the system. Please do not selectother than DOM Restore and Reboot the system in the DOM Menu.

2 Via an FTP

Preparation

Prepare a PC (Windows XP or Windows Vista) and connect it to a stable IP network.

Copy the patch file to any directory on the PC you desire.

NoteConfirm the NSR version in advance by clicking [Information] on the logon screen to prepare aproper patch file.(If you are already logged on to the NSR, you can display the logon screen byclicking at the top right of the Main screen and logging off from the dialog box that appears.)

- If the version of the patch file is equivalent or higher than that of NSR, installation is executed. Iflower, the message shown below is displayed and the patch file installation is suspended.

Procedures

2. Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) on your PC. Type the ftp address in the addressbar in the form : ftp://ftpupdate@(ftp address) and press Enter key.

3The dialog box shown below is displayed. Type the password and click [Log On].

4If the FTP session is established without fail, the destination ftp folder is displayed as shown below.

NoteIf the following message appears, suspect that the power of NSR is turned off.

5Drag & Drop the patch file into the destination folder to transmit it. At the completion of transmission,

installation starts automatically on the NSR side. No PC operation is needed any more.

6. The following screen is kept displayed on the monitor of NSR during installation. It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete installation. Never turn off the power of NSR.

NoteThe following message may appear as the installation proceeds. However, you can ignore itbecause it has no affect on the installation.

7. At the completion of installation, the system reboots automatically itself.NoteIf the version of the patch file is lower than that of NSR, the message shown below is displayed andthe patch file installation is suspended.

8. Confirm that the software version is updated by clicking [Information] on the logon screen.NoteThe software version cannot be checked remotely from the PC or a similar device via the network.Check with the NSR itself.

Appendix-1. Error Messages

This patch file is unavailable for your system.Make sure again that your system needs to apply the patch.

The system interrupts installation due to improper operations.Retry to install the patch file from the beginning.

The directory(/mnt/iufd/disk1pX) doesn'texist. Reboot and InstallPatch again.

The system fails to copy the patch file correctly. Reboot the systemfirst then retry to install the patch file from the beginning.
