Utilities: Basic Requirements

• All utilities, media piping, and infrastructure shall be sized to support the needs of 40 instruments

• The supply of utilities and media available in 2019 shall be able to support 22 instruments

5

Utilities: Gases & Liquids

• Ar – 10 l/min at 10 bar• N2 – 10 l/min at 10 bar• Instrument grade -40 °C compressed air – 16.5

m3/min at 10 bar• Helium recovery lines for LHe boil off connecting to

cryo plant• 4 gas supply lines 15mm diameter per instrument for

detector gas supply• Cooling water• Tap water in experimental halls – 2 faucets per hall• 4 liquid N2 refilling stations (one per sector)

6

Utilities: Power

• All but 2 instruments need access to 120 kW of electrical power

• 2 instruments need access to 200 kW of electrical power (Neutron Spin Echo)

• Instruments will have need of 85 kW for cooling, 10 of which will go to the air, and 75 kW to water

• Electrical power supply shall allow for 10MW instantaneous power within 2 ms for up to 1 sec every minute

7

Utilities: Electrical Installations

• Cable ducting in the gallery, Hall 3, and the culvert shall provide space for the following cross section from the source to each instrument– Power cable and copper bar of X x Y mm to be determined

at a later date– 100 x 100 mm for optical fibers for IT, DMSC, EPICS, etc.– 100 x 150 mm for Personal Safety Systems– 100 x 150 mm for Machine Protection System

8

Utilities: Electrical Installations

• Cables in all installations shall be grouped according to EMC emittance and susceptibility . Each group shall be installed in a seperate trunk

• Cables require a minimum bending radius. The gallery shall accommodate this by adding space of double the gantry width in each 90 degree corner

• NSS shall review power distribution and trunk model during design process

• An exclusion zone of 10m from electrical transformers to labs and instrument equipment shall be met

9

Utilities: Electrical Installations

• All motors on cranes and rolling doors shall be EM-shielded compliant IEC regulations

• Electrical power shall be available in the instrument hall for installation activities. 4 grounded plugs of 230V/20A along the perimeter of the experimental halls no further than 10 m apart

• Electrical power shall be available in the guide hall to support installation activities. 4 grounded plugs of 230V/20A along the perimeter of the experimental halls no further than 15 m apart

10

Utilities: Ventilation

• Fume hoods at the instrument require ventilation to the outside

• Out gas from experiments using gas flow through samples will require ventilation to the outside

11

Utilities: Network

• Network cabling for DMSC, EPICS, IT, MPS, PSS
