PSG COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
REPORT SUMMARY
PSG College of Pharmacy affiliated to Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Chennai
organized the NSS Special camp at Nagarajapuram Elementary School, Vedapati
Panchayat from 05.01.2014 to 11.01.2014. With contributions from Lions Club,
Airport, Coimbatore ten benches (worth Rs. 25,000) were sponsored to the elementary
school which had no benches until then. Vivekananda Youth Club, Paneermadai
sponsored 50 plates and tumblers (worth Rs. 3800) to the noon meal centre at the
school. Besides these the NSS volunteers donated 50 slates and chalk pieces to the
students at the Balwadi, while dictionary and stationery items were given to 50 students
in the school.
As part of the camp, the school premises was cleaned, compound wall white
washed and the main gate which was damaged in May 2013 was fixed (photo attached).
Dr. Mahadevan, Govt. Medical College Hospital created awareness on AIDS, Mr.
Rajkumar, Hand-in-Hand, an NGO working on Solid Waste Management System
presented a power point on adverse use of plastics on environment. Dr. Selvaraj,
Associate Professor, Dept. of Psychology, Govt. Arts College correlated Psychology with
Personality Development. Awareness programmes like importance of education, road
safety and various govt. schemes were screened with the help of Field Publicity Office,
Coimbatore. Thannambikkai Masilamani instilled confidence among the volunteers by
his speech on Confidence.

NSS SPECIAL CAMP REPORT FOR 2013 – 2014 Place : Government Elememtary School, Nagarajapuram, Vedapatti Village,
Coimbatore District. Date : 05-01-2014 (Sunday)
The journey of serving the society during the camp started on 5th January from our college campus. Sixty six students of the 2012 batch along with the NSS Programme Officers took part in the camp..
Various Committees were formed and the students were divided into six teams and the responsibilities were explained to them.
Students were engaged in cleaning the place of stay.
Physical exercise was carried out in the Health Centre Ground.
A discussion was held in the evening after exercise, in which the days
happenings were discussed and the plans for the next day were charted out

The day started with Yoga in the morning.
Dr. D. Vasanthakumari, Medical officer, PSG Rural Health Centre inaugurated the programme.
Mr. Subramanium, Village Officer, PSG Rural Health Centre gave an idea
about the village and about the plan of the programme to each group. Dr K Mahadevan, Professor, Coimbatore Medical College delivered a
lecture on AIDS and created an awareness of AIDS and its preventive measures. He said that in India, Tamilnadu ranked ninth in AIDS. He sensitized us to the ways in which AIDS can be prevented, and to enumerate his points A – Absence of evil deeds, B – Be faithful to your life partner C- Condom D- Drug/ Death E- Educating the Community

The day ended with various physical activities in the Vedapatti Health Centre Ground.
Before dinner, a meeting was organized by the Programme Officer to
discuss about the day‟s happening and planning for the next day.

Date : 07-01-2014 (Tuesday)
The day started with Yoga in the morning.
Survey was carried out in the adopted village regarding health issues such as blood pressure, blood sugar level.
A rally was organized to spread the awareness on „Waste Management
System‟.
Mr.Rajkumar, NGO, gave us a talk on solid waste management. He
explained that there are two major issues:
1. Source segregation 2. Usage of plastic bags.
The School campus was cleaned by NSS Volunteers.
A programme was organized by the NSS Officers to improve the
communication skills of the students. Before dinner, a meeting was organized by the Programme Officer to
discuss about the day‟s happening and planning for the next day.

Date : 08-01-2014 (Wednesday)
The day started with Yoga in the morning.
The NSS Volunteers whitewashed the compound walls of the Government School.
NSS Volunteers took English Classes for the students of the Government
School, while a few went to the Balvadi to interact with the students there. In the afternoon session, Dr. B. Selvaraj, Associate Professor, Dept. of
Psychology, Govt. Arts College gave a lecture on “Personality
Development”. He said that Personality is related to
Character (consistency in behavior)
Style of thinking(positive, negative and realistic)
Adjusting with the environment
He also added that to develop personality one should
o Observe
o Practise
o Be aware

Date : 09-01-2014 (Thursday)
The day started with Yoga in the morning.
The school gate was fixed by the NSS Volunteers. A Personality Development programme was conducted for the NSS

Pongal festival was celebrated in the Government Elementary School, Nagarajapuram, Vedapatti Village, Coimbatore District.Various competitions were conducted for the school children.
In the afternoon, on behalf of the field publicity, Mr. Chandrasekaran screened
documentary films emphasizing „Road Safety‟ for NSS Volunteers and
„Women Education‟ for school students. He also conducted a game for the
villagers to assemble and then he gave awareness about the central
government scheme to the public
Physical activity was organised in the Vedapatti Health Centre Ground.
The day‟s activities were discussed and the next day‟s activities were planned.

Date : 10-01-2014 (Friday) The day started with Yoga in the morning. At Gandhimandapam, Mr. Masillamani spoke to us about Leadership qualities
and Public speaking. He said that, if anyone wants to be successful, he needs
knowledge, functional skill, positive attitude and an expanded comfort zone.

Validectory function was conducted at 3 p.m.
o The validectory function started with a prayer song. Mr. B. Samuel Thavamani, NSS Programme Officer, PSG College of Pharmacy, Peelamedu, Coimbatore, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Murthi , II B. Pharm presented the report of the Special camp. Mrs. Jothimani R, Councillor of 4th ward, Mrs. Thilagavathi R, Councillor of the 3rd ward, Mrs. Raja Kumari, Headmistress, Govt. Elementary School appreciated the work of the NSS Volunteers and distributed the prizes. The function came to an end with a vote of thanks by Mr. Vivekanand, II B.Pharm. sponsered
