Follow the advice below for safe and correct operation.
On AC voltageUsethe unitonAC120V, 60 Hz only.
On placement• Do not use the system in places which are extremely hot, cold,
dusty or humid.• Place the system on a flat, even surface.• Be carefulnot to obstructthe ventilationholeson the rearpanel,
as increasedinternaltemperature may affectthe electricparts. Inparticular,do not place the system in an airtightrack.
• If usingthe system near televisionor radio, noisemay be heardfrom the television,radioor this system. Keep this system awayfrom the affected televisionor radio.
On safety• When connecting and disconnecting the AC cord, grip the plug
and not thecord itself. Pullingthe cord maydamage it andthusbe hazardous.
• When youarenotgoingto use thesystemfor a longperiodoftime,disconnectthe AC cord. If thecord isplugged in,a smallamountofcurrentkeeps on flowing to thesystemeven ifthe powerswitchis not ON.
• If the AC cord is brokenor damaged, or if the wiresare exposed,contact your dealer or an Aiwa service station and have itreplacedor repaired immediately.
On condensation
When the room is heated, you sometimessee water drops on yourwindows;this is called condensation.This can occur insidethe CD player unitwhen:• it is moved from a cold spot to a warm spot.• it isused ina roomwherethe heatingsystem hasjustbeen turned
on.
• it is used ina place witha lot of moisture.• it is usedwhere ithas directcontactwithcoolair,such asnear an
air-conditioner.
When ithascondensationinside,the unitmaynotfunction normally.Letit standfor 1to 2 hoursbeforeturningthe poweron;or,graduallyheat the room and dry the unit before use.
Should any trouble occur, disconnect the AC cord and referservicing to qualified personnel only.

CONNECTIONS
BASIC CONNECTIONSConnect the equipmentand accessoriesfollowing steps 1 to 3.After connectingthe following items, as shown inillustrationI_II,the unitis ready for operation.

1 Connect the speakers with the unit.
Connect the right speaker to the R terminal, and the left to theL terminal.Open the lever of the speaker terminals and insert the conductorof the speaker cords with the stripe to • and that of the othercords to G.Then, shut the lever to lock.

• This speaker system is magnetically shielded. However, ifthe speaker should affect the color on yourTV screen, turn offthe TV and turn it on again 15 - 30 minutes later. If the TVscreen still has poor color, place the speaker system awayfrom the TV.
• Do not leave magnets or objects generating magnetism nearthe speaker system.
2 Connect the supplied antennas.
Connect the antenna cords, pushing the lever of each terminal,and insert the conductor. Then, release the lever to lock.FM: Connect the conductors of the supplied FM feeder antenna®to the FM 75 _ terminals.AM: Connect the conductors of the supplied AM loop antenna@to the AM LOOP terminals.

To position each antennaFM feod(_r antennaExtend this antenna horizontally in a T- shapeand fix its ends tothe wall with cellophane tape.

Do not bring the ends of the FM feeder antenna near metalobjects or curtain rails.
AM 100pantennaTo stand the antenna on a surface, fix the claw to the slot. Afterstanding it, position it to find the best direction and position forradio reception. ---*See illustration I_.To fix the antenna to the wall, use screws (_ (not supplied).-, See illustration r_.
• Do not unwind the AM loop antenna wire.• Do not bring the AM loop antenna near a turntable system,
CD player, TV monitor, or the stereo system itself, or closeto the AC cord or speaker cords, since noise will be pickedup.
3 Connect the AC cord.
Connect the AC cord to an AC outlet. When the AC cord is
connected, the clock display flashes.If setting up with other equipment, connect the AC cord after
setting.

For 4 seconds after turning on the unit, onlythe function buttons and
the VOLUME control can be operated.
After use
Press the POWER button to turn off the power. The displayindication is faded and only the clock is displayed.
Headphone use
Connect headphones with a e6.3 mm/1/4 in. plug to the PHONESjack.
When the headphones are connected, sound cannot be heard fromthe speakers.
In case of power InterruptionThe clock display flashes.• If for lessthanabout 24 hours, the clockdoes notwork duringthe
power interruption.The current time has to be set again (see page 14).
• If for more than about 24 hours, thecurrent time, presetstationsand timer have to be set again.
ON THE REMOTE CONTROL
Remote control settingDetach the battery cover on the rear of the remote control and inserttwo R6 (size AA) batteries. _ See illustration I'_!.
Battery replacement
The maximum operation distance of the remote control should be
approximately 5 meters (16 feet). When this distance decreases,replace the batteries with new ones.
• Do not mix different types of batteries, or old batteries with newones.
• When you are not going to use the remote control for a long periodof time, remove the batteries to prevent possible electrolyteleakage.
Hints for correct operation
The remote control does not operate or incorrect operation mayoccur when:
• there is an obstruction between the remote control and the unit.
• the remote sensor is exposed to a strong light like the hot sun.• other remote controls like those of television is used.

Each of the buttons has two different functions. One of these
functions is indicated on the button top, and the other on the plateabove the button.
To use the function indicated on the button top, just press thebutton.
To use the function indicated on the plate above the button,
press the button while pressing the SHIFT button.
To use the FUNCTION button _ See illustration r_].
The FUNCTION button substitutes for the function buttons (TAPE,TUNER, VIDEO/AUX, CD) on the main unit.
Each time the FUNCTION button is pressed, the functions areselected cyclically.

When the AC cord is connected, the clock display flashes. Carry
out the following steps while the power is off.
1 Press the II SET button to enter the clock settingmode.
The display indicationbecomesbrightandthe "hour"flashes.
2 Press the _1 <1 DOWN or I_ I_ UP button to desig-nate the hour.
3 Press the II SET button to set the hour.
The "hour" stops flashing and the "minute" starts flashing.
4 Press the <1 <1 DOWN or I_ I_ UP button to desig-nate the minute.
Press the II SET button to set the minute andcomplete setting.
The minute stops flashing in the display and the clock starts
from 00 second. The display indication becomes dim.To get a more accurate time, press the II SET button at the
desired point, as indicated by another clock or time signal.Each colon flash in the display indicates a second.
To correct the current time --* See illustration [].
While pressing the SHIFT button, press the CLOCK button on the
remote control. The clock is displayed for 4 seconds.Within this period, start correcting by following steps 1 to 5.
To switch display to clock while power Is onWhile pressing the SHIFT button, press the CLOCK button on theremote control. The clock is displayed for 4 seconds.During recording,the clockcannot be displayed.
To switch to the 24-hour standard
The time display is factory-set to the 12-hour standard. To switch
to the 24-hour standard, press the CLOCK button on the remotecontrol while pressing the SHIFT button and then press the •
button within 4 seconds. Repeat the same procedure to restore the12-hour standard.
If the clock display flashes while the power Is offThis is caused by power interruption. Set the current time again.

To clean the cabinet
