The idea of establishing a Textile Institute of world fame was conceived by a group of visionary industrialists in 1954.To realize this idea the Government of Punjab joined hands with the leading textile industrialists to form an Instituteof Textile Technology in Faisalabad (then Lyallpur) and provided sixty-two acres of state owned land free of cost.Kohinoor Industries, Colony Textile Mills, Dawood Foundation and Lyallpur Cotton Mills provided funds to the tune ofRs.2.5 Millions, which were utilized for the construction of building and provision of other infrastructure. The Government of U.K. provided the bulk of equipment and machinery, along with the services of experts under Colombo Plan. Field Marshall Muhammad Ayub Khan, the then President of Pakistan, laid the foundation stone of theInstitute, on the 12th of October 1959.

Dr. M. Bilal Qadir from Yarn Manufacturing Department won Rs. 0.5 millionfunding for the project title “Synthesis of mesoporous and highly functionalTiO2 aggregated nanoparticles for photocatalysis and energy devices” fromHigher Education Commission of Pakistan under Start-up grant.research
Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad Rehan from Polymer Engineering Department won Rs.0.5 million funding for the project title “Ni-SiO2 embedded PESultrafiltration membranes for reduction of biofouling and organic pollutant”from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan under Start-upresearch grant.
Dr. Hafsa Jamshaid from Knitting Department won Rs. 0.48 million fundingfrom Higher Education Commission of Pakistan under Start-up research
. The aim of this research is to develop hybrid composite structuresgrantfor automobiles using polyester, polypropylene and basalt fibers for bettermechanical, thermal and ecological properties.
Dr. Babar Ramzan from Garment Manufacturing Department won Rs. 0.485million grant under start-upfrom Higher Education Commission of Pakistanresearch grant. The aim of this research is development of hybrid spunheating yarn and its comparison with existing filament yarn based ontheir performance properties.
Higher Education Commission Pakistan released a research grant of Rs.2.84 million to the Department of Materials & Testing, for upgradation &strengthening the Textile Physical Testing Laboratory under the project“Institutional strengthening”.This will be utilized for procuring three testingequipment namely: High Resolution Microscope, Elmendorf Tear Tester,and Pneumatic Bursting Strength Tester. Dr. Sheraz Ahmad is the principal investigator of this project.

International Forum on Knitted Technology 2018held in China
Dr. Hafsa Jamshaid, Chairperson Department of Knitting,
participated in International Forum on Knitted Technology
held in China from 28-30 May, 2018. She was invited as
a key note speaker to talk on Sustainable Materials for
Knitted Composites.
International Conference Presentations
Dr. Yasir Nawab presented his research in 4th International
Conference FAEM-18 (Frontiers of Advanced Engineering
Materials) held on February 19-20, 2018 as Invited Speaker
on the title “Novel Polymeric Composite Materials for
Aerospace Applications”. The conference was organized by
Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR)
at Lahore. Renowned International and National speakers
participated in the conference.
Fiber Society Conference, USA
Dr. Ali Afzal, Assistant Professor from Department of Materials
and Testing participated in The Fiber Society Conference,
Fall 2017 in Athens, Georgia, USA. He was awarded travel
grant from Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. He
presented his research on development of pressure sensors
for SMART Textile applications.
Technology (ICAET)
Dr. Yasir Nawab, gave a Keynote talk on “Mechanical
Characterization of Economical, Waste Based Hybrid
Composites for Automotive Applications” in 1st International
Conference on Advances in Engineering and Technology
(ICAET) held on 2-3 April, 2018 at BUITEMS, Quetta.
He was invited by the host university and chaired a session on
“Textiles”.
Dr. Yasir Nawab also participated in “The 8th World
Conference on 3D Fabrics and Their Applications” held on
March 28-29, at The University of Manchester, UK. He was
awarded travel grant from Higher Education Commission,
Pakistan. He presented his research on “Development &
Characterization of Green Composites using Novel 3D Woven
Preforms”.
4th MechComp 2018, Spain
Dr. Khubab Shaker presented his research titled “Experimental
and numerical investigation of warpage in particle loaded thin
composite plates” in 4th International Conference on
Mechanics of Composites (MechComp). The conference was
held at University of Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. More than 200
researchers around the globe presented their research papers
in the conference. The accommodation and travel expenses
for the conference were covered by the HEC, Pakistan.

The 91st Textile Institute World Conference (TIWC) 2018,
which was hosted by the School of Design at the University
of Leeds on 23-26 July 2018. Dr. Hafsa Jamshaid presented
her collaborated work with Uzair Hussain titled “Optimization
of fire resistant and comfort properties of knitted fabrics”.
The conference theme “Integrating Design with Sustainable
Technology” is focused on identifying and establishing
interdisciplinary engagement in the textile manufacturing and
retail industry through the various fields of technology, design,
sustainability, research and economy.
“TBIS 2018" (The Textile Bioengineering and InformaticsSociety) at Manchester, UK
Dr. Hafsa Jamshiad presented her collaborated work with
Rajesh Mishra and Jiri Militky titled “Characteristics of woven
Basalt and hybrid structures as composite reinforcement” in
TBIS-2018 which was held at University of Manchester, UK,
on 25-28 July, 2018. The Textile Bioengineering and Informatics
Society (TBIS) is a charitable organization created to foster,
develop and promote all aspects of science and technology in
the bioengineering of materials, fibers and textiles, and to
study how fibers, textiles and clothing inuence human
biology, medicine, behavior and health, as well as human
living environments.
1st International Conference on Technical Textiles ICTT-2017
was held at National Textile University Faisalabad on
November 09-10, 2017. Federal secretary for Textiles,
Mr. Hassan Iqbal was the chief guest of the event. The
objective of conference was to facilitate interaction between
researchers and professionals working in the field of textile
engineering. Researchers from 5 different countries presented
their research papers. The event was organized into 10
different sessions. The topics covered included composite
materials, smart textiles, medical textiles, supply chain
management, textile comfort and eco-textiles, textile yarns
fabrics and image processing and textile processing.
Conference on Emerging Trends in Knitting on
7-8 February, 2018
Department of Knitting organized a conference on Emerging
Trends in Knitting on 7-8 February, 2018. The objective of
this conference was to bring all industrial and academic
experts on a single platform to take effective part in
innovation and hence development of Pakistan.
Entrepreneur Festival Faisalabad 2018The forums of exhibitions always provide an opportunity to
interact and exchange ideas. The first Entrepreneur Festival
Faisalabad (EFF) planned by the Women Chamber of
Commerce & Industry was held at University of Agriculture on
19 January 2018. The festival idea was to promote small
business concepts especially to encourage women. Ms.Misbah
Latif, Ms. Aroobah Mumtaz and Mr. Ehsan Ali from
Department of Design participated in the festival under the
brand name of Space Designers.

4th Convocation of NTU The 4th Convocation of National Textile University was held on
28 Septmber, 2017 at Convention Center Islamabad. The
Worthy Chancellor, Mamnoon Hussain (President of Pakistan)
conferred degree to graduating students and said that today's
Pakistan carried a better image of improved law and order and
economic situation as compared to the Pakistan of year 2013.
Addressing the convocation, the President said the undeterred
commitment of Pakistani nation and the government along
with joint efforts of State institutions had resulted in overall
improved situation. President Mamnoon stressed that it was
need of the hour that entire nation backed its government and
national institutions to eliminate the causes of lawlessness and
bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized adoption of
modern techniques based on research to match the
requirements of contemporary industrial world. He said textile
industry was the country's backbone making up to 65 percent
of national economy. He said Faisalabad had an extraordinary
importance in this regard, being the hub of trade and
commerce. The President said due to his personal association
with textile industry in the past, he was aware of its related
problems and had also suggested the Finance Minister to
consider giving an ample subsidy to this industry. President
Mamnoon termed youth the leaders of future, who had a role
to play for the country's betterment. He felicitated the
graduates of National Textile University and expressed

contribute to the textile industry with their expertise. The
President gave away gold medals among the graduates for
their remarkable academic achievement. Earlier, Rector NTU
Professor Dr. Tanveer Hussain in his welcome address gave
salient features of the university and the courses taught in
various disciplines related to textile.
National Fiesta 2018
National Textile University, Faisalabad held a mega event
“National Fiesta-18” on 23-24 February, 2018. It was a
national level multi-category event in which number of
educational institutions across Pakistan participated in diverse
competitions of Arts, Sports, Literary, Business and Technical.
National Textile University arranged 3rd NTU DICE Textile
Innovation event on 6 - 7 March, 2018. The major objective
of this event was to promote and collaborate on innovations
related to textile sector, commercialization of these
innovations, textile engineering capacity building, leveraging
knowledge of expatriates around the world, providing access
to Pakistan Textile Industry to international markets and to
help Government of Pakistan in textile policy making.
It was one of the biggest gathering of academia and textile
industry in Pakistan, with 180 projects presented by students
and faculty members from 35 universities nationwide.
The CEOs and representatives from more than 120 industries
visited this event. A total of Rs. 1.65 million rupees was
awarded to different projects based on the innovation and
usefulness to address different textile industry issues.
International Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurshipin Textiles 2018
On 6-7 March, 2018, Department of Materials and
Testing (NTU) in collaboration with DICE Foundation USA,
Higher Education Commission Pakistan and Interloop Limited.
Pakistan arranged an “International Conference on
Innova t i on and En t rep reneu r sh i p i n Tex t i l e s " .
Chairperson of the Executive Board and Chief Operating
Officer of Interloop Limited, Mr. Navid Fazil was the Chief
Guest of the event. Many CEOs, government officials,
students, experts from textile industry & academia attended
the conference. Honourable chief guest appreciated the
efforts of Professor Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Rector NTU,
Dr. Sheraz Ahmad, Chairman Department of Materials &
Testing and Dr. Yasir Nawab, Chairman Fabric Manufacturing
Department, for organizing such a successful and fruitful
event. Professor Dr. Arshad Ali, Executive Director HEC graced
the closing ceremony and expressed his views about the
event. He also distributed the prizes and shields among the
winners of DICE Textile.
3rd NTU DICE Textile Innovation Event

DCS with collaboration of CS Society arranged theMega Event named as "XTC JUNOON Gear 5”Department of Computer Science (CS) with collaboration of CS
Society, Character Building Society and Sports Society
organized the Mega Event named as “XTC JUNOON Gear 5”
on 27-28 April, 2018. The event contained technical as well as
non-technical competitions. XTC was a national level event
and more than 1500 visitors and participants from 30 different
institutes of Pakistan are participated in this event.
The 11th International Exhibition and Conference forGarment and Textile Industry (IGATEX)The 11th International Exhibition and Conference for
Garment and Textile Industry (IGATEX) scheduled on
26-29 April, 2018 was also augmented by Technical
Conference. Many national and international speakers spoke on
the occasion. NTU being a knowledge partner also
participated in the event. Dr. Hafsa Jamshaid, chairperson
Knitting spoke on "Application of Knitted Composites in
Technical Textiles".
1st All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest,TAKRARR-18NTU Debating Club (2017-18) organized “1st All Pakistan
Bilingual Declamation Contest” under the title of 'TAKRARR-18'
in the university auditorium on May 08, 2018. Twenty-Four
contestants from various institutions across the country
participated in the event. Renowned adjudicators of Pakistan
were present as jury members. King Edward Medical
University, Lahore won the Team Champions Trophy and
M. Tahir Irfan from Kids Education School, Jhumrah won
Best Speaker Award. Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Rector NTU
graced the event as Chief Guest and gave away the prizes to
the winners of the contest.
Collaboration between NTU and IBA Karachi forpromoting entrepreneurshipNational Textile University, Faisalabad (NTU) has entered into
a collaborative partnership with Institute of Business
Administration, Karachi (IBA) on September 11, 2017 after
signing a MOU for promoting entrepreneurship. The
memorandum was signed by Rector NTU Prof. Dr. Tanveer
Hussain and Prof. Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, Dean and Director
IBA Karachi. Many esteemed dignitaries from Industry and
Academia attended MOU signing ceremony. Dr. Shahid Qureshi
Director Centre for Entrepreneurial Development IBA Karachi,
shared the history, launch and success of IBA's model of
entrepreneurial development with the audience.
MOU Signed between Department of Polymer Engineering
of NTU, FSD and Fibre Craft Industries, LahoreDelegation from National Textile University, Faisalabad (NTU)
visited Fibre Craft Industries (Pvt.) Ltd, Lahore on Wednesday
22, November 2017. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
was signed between the two parties to help each other in
Research & Development. Fibre Craft Industries and NTU are
committed to join hands for the betterment of the society.
FCI will also offer internship programs for NTU students.

NTU signed MoU with PSQCANTU signed an MoU with Pakistan Standards & Quality Control
Authority (PSQCA) which enables the University to access
PSQCA's technical services center, extending the Universities'
research capabilities by having access to testing of industrial
metallurgical products. This MoU also enables the two
organizations to work closely on quality and environmental
management systems. Rector NTU, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain
along with DG PSQCA, Mr. Muhammad Khalid Siddiq signed
the MoU.

Department of Design signed MOU with Sadaqat Textiles(KHAS Brand)Department of Design s igned a Memorandum of
understanding (MoU) with Sadaqat Textiles (KHAS Brand) on
March 20, 2018. It will mutually elaborate benefits in both
academia and industrial prospective. Department of Design
faculty and students will assist in Design and Research activitie
with Sadaqat Textiles in future.
Achievements and Awards
Muhammad Zia ur Rehman received Best Paper Awardin International Conference on Business, Economics andFinanceUniversity Brunei Darussalam's School of Business and
Economics (UBD SBE) organized International Conference on
Business, Economics and Finance (ICBEF). The two-day
conference featured 60 papers presented by speakers from 14
countries. Professor Dr. Charles Horioka, Vice-President &
Research Professor at the Asian Growth Research Institute,
Japan, and Dr. Guler Aras, Professor of Finance and Accounting
& Director, YTU Center for Finance, Governance &
Sustainability at Yildiz Technical University, Turkey, delivered
the key note speech. Muhammad Zia ur Rehman, Lecturer,
Department of Management Sciences, presented his research
paper in the area of Accounting & Finance and won the best
paper award along with a cash prize. Travel grant for the
presentation was awarded by Higher Education Commission
(HEC), Pakistan.
Ali Raza Shafqat selected for US Fulbright Scholarship 2018Ali Raza Shafqat has been selected for US Fulbright Scholarship
2018. It was only possible with sincere guidance, mentoring
and exposure received from my teachers at NTU.
According to Mr. Shafqat “He came to NTU, Faisalabad from
Quetta to gain National exposure but came back with
International opportunities and exposure”
Dr. Hafsa Jamshaid has been awardedFellowship of Textile Institute, UKDr. Hafsa Jamshaid, Chairperson Knitting, has been awarded
Fellowship of Textile Institute, UK. The Fellowship is the
chartered professional which is awarded under the Textile
Institute's Royal Charter.
Team of three students from Applied Sciences Department
under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Assistant
Professor, Department of Applied Sciences participated in the
Pakistan National Mathematics Olympiad(PNMO-17) held in
IBA Sukkur in the month of November 2017. Eighteen
Universities from all over Pakistan participated in this
competition and the Mathematics students of National Textile
University secured 6th Position.
NTU Achieved Highest Top 'W' Category
Quality Enhancement Cell of NTU has scored 93.17% and
achieved W-Category in HEC 'Yearly Progress Report 2016-17'
ranking announced by QAA of HEC. Director QEC, Muhammad
Nisar Bhatti along with his team is committed to endorse
quality culture and establish quality system at NTU.
The QEC of NTU, being continuously rated in top 'W-Category'
of HEC, congrats all the stake holders of National Textile
University on achieving this milestone.
Dr. Yasir Nawab won HEC's "Best University Teacher Award"
Dr. Yasir Nawab was awarded with HEC's “Best University
Teacher Award” for the year 2016. The award comprises of
cash Rs. 100,000 and a certificate. Federal Minister of State
Mr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman conferred the award in a
ceremony held in HEC - Islamabad on February 21, 2018.

Department of Computer Science won a regionalcompetition of Imagine Cup
Imagine Cup Pakistan is a national level student technology
competition with collaboration from HEC and Microsoft.
Imagine Cup Pakistan regional finals were held from March 27
to April 6, 2018, where over 110 projects were evaluated by a
team of experts. Twenty-five projects were selected as
regional winners and qualified for the National Finals to be
held in Islamabad during the first week of May 2018.
It is a matter of pleasure for the Department of Computer
Science, National Textile University that the team of final year
students working under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Asif
won the position from regional competition.
Mr. Sharjeel Abid's research pitch has been awardedposition in top 10 placesMr. Sharjeel Abid's Research Pitch titled; "Electrospun
Nanofibers with Controlled Drug Delivery for Burn Wounds"
has been awarded position in Top 10 places in All Pakistan
Pitch my Research Competition 2017-18. This competition was
organized by the mutual efforts of The University of
Queensland, Australia and The University of Haripur, Pakistan.
The winners of the competition were announced by Prof.
Robert Faff, Director Research, The University of Queensland,
Australia. This unique and high quality research competition
was launched for the very first time in Pakistan.
Mr. Sharjeel Abid is persuing his PhD in Textile Engineering at
National Textile University under the supervision of
Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain and Dr. Ahsan Nazir.
Textile Engineering PhD Degree Awarded
First ever PhD Textile Engineering degrees were awarded to
Mr. Muhammad Umair and Mr. Khubab Shaker on successful
defense of their theses. The research topic of Dr. Muhammad
Umair was "Development of Novel 3D Woven Reinforcements
for High Performance Applications".While the research topic
of Dr. Khubab Shaker was "Study of Particle Loaded
Composites, Fabrication Using LiquidComposite Moulding
Technique". During PhD studies both scholars published
different research papers in renowned journals. Rector, NTU
congratulated both scholars on getting PhD degrees.
Dr. Yasir Nawab has been awarded with “DICE LeadershipAward”
Dr. Yasir Nawab, Chair DICE Textile (Pakistan) has been
awarded with first ever DICE Leadership Award 2018 for his
eminent, exceptional and matchless untiring efforts to bring
academia and industry together at the DICE Textile platform.
This award was presented as a token of appreciation by
the President DICE Mr. Saad Elahi for successfully arranging
the DICE Textile innovation event at National Textile University
for the last 3 years with the largest participation from the
industry and academia ever in the history of Pakistan textile
sector. Mr. Saad Elahi highly appreciated Dr. Yasir Nawab for
making DICE Textile the most vibrant event of all DICE events.
Participation and Positions in DAIRA'18 Competitionat FAST-NU (Chiniot Campus)National Textile University's students took part in DAIRA'18
(30th March to 1st April, 2018), a Mega Event held in FAST
NU (Chiniot Campus) and won significant positions in different
categories. Students from Department of Computer Sciences,
Department of Design and Department of Management
Sciences proved their abilities and talent in the event with
different positions. We are looking forward for a bright future
of our students in Technical as well as in Non-Technical
abilities.
This is an age of globalization. National Textile University, hasemerged as one of the best multidisciplinary universities ofPakistan. Currently, Higher Education Commission (HEC)Islamabad has nominated 44 Afghan National Students forNTU, Faisalabad in recognition of its committed educationalstandards. Eighteen Afghan students admitted in BBA andtwenty-six admitted in Computer Science programs offered byNTU. Orientation program has been conducted to welcomethe foreign students on Sunday September 23, 2018 byOffice of Students Affairs and respective departments. NTU iscommitted to extend full cooperation to theses foreignstudents for knowledge seeking and to earn good name forNTU as well as for Pakistan in international arena.

publishing "Fabric manufacturing Calculations: Process and
Product", 2nd book in the year 2017. The book has been
published by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Thanks to all the authors for their contributions in this chain of

A National Book "Textile Raw Materials" Published byHigher Education Commission PakistanUnder the project “Monograph and Textbook Writing Scheme”
of Higher Education Commission Pakistan, The Department
of Materials & Testing has published a Book “Textile Raw
Materials”. Amplest congratulations to the faculty members of
Department of Materials and Testing: Dr. Sheraz Ahmad & Mr.
Khurram Shehzad Akhtar for their initiative to write a book on
Textile Raw Materials. A special thanks to Mr. Umar Nazir from
Department of Fabric Manufacturing for making his valuable
efforts and contributions in attaining this landmark.
Other Activities
Rector NTU Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain InauguratedSquash Complex
Rector NTU Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain inaugurated a squash
complex in NTU main campus. The state of the art complex
has been developed to encourage students to participate in
sports and extra-curricular activities. The project is one of
the series of projects realizing the visionary leadership of
the Rector.
NTU to Design Danish Schools' UniformsNational Textile University (NTU), one of the leading textile
sector Universities in Asia, is set to design school
uniforms for Danish Schools. NTU's active support to the
Punjab Danish Schools and Centers of Excellence Authority,
is in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Teams from both organizations will meet to finalize uniform
specifications. Danish schools cater to the overall
development of marginalized students with emphasis on
academics, sports, physical education mixed with
social/cultural activities and community responsibility.
Tree Plantation Campaign "Spread Green"
A plantation campaign was launched at National Textile
University in collaboration with Green Community on August
17, 2018.The campaign initiated by Rector Prof. Dr. Tanveer
Hussain and Advisor Students Dr. Amjed Javid. They
planted the trees to kick off the “Spread Green”
tree plantation campaign.
